Hey everyone. I just thought I might try something different and do kind of a thoughts on the entertainment world. Let me know what you think of it and I might do one of these every so often. I doubt weekly but maybe every couple weeks or something. I always welcome the feedback. I’ll cover movies, TV, and maybe some music here and there. First try at this.
First, I guess I will start with Star Wars. I have now seen Star Wars Episode 3 twice. It was great both times. I wouldn’t mind actually going and watching it again. It is that good. Seeing it in the theater with the big Star Wars fans is definitely part of the appeal. You just can’t get that feel from watching it at home. Part of the fun of watching Star Wars is seeing it with the crowd. I thought the movie did a great job of setting up episodes 4-6. We knew episode 3 wouldn’t end happy and it didn’t but it made me pumped to watch the rest of the series again. I have got to get that new box set with 4, 5, and 6 on it!! One thing I found really funny was leaving the theater on Sunday night and seeing this couple in front of me. The guy had this really solemn look on his face. The woman looked over and saw this and kind of laughed asking him if he was all right. Just kind of one those moments that you remember. I did get to see the movie on opening day also and it was great to see it with a packed theatre. Where else do you get the experience of a movie starting and the whole theatre erupting into applause? I’ll never forget the roar in the theatre during episode 2 when Yoda’s fight scene began. The place was going nuts. I got on board the overall Star Wars bandwagon a lot later than most but am very glad to be aboard.
Some various news on movies. I watched 50 First Dates last night on DVD with Adam Sandler and Drew Barrymore. Very funny movie and a good story to it too. Highly recommend it. I was laughing all through it. In case you don’t know, I’m a big fan of the romantic comedy so you’ll see that mostly covering my DVD library. I am excited to see quite a few movies this summer. One being Batman Begins. I’ve been big into Batman since I was little so I am always pumped to see anything Batman. The trailers are awesome for it. I am excited to see the Fantastic Four movie too after seeing the trailer for it before Star Wars. It looks really good and has a really good cast.
Some various notes. What is up with Rachael Leigh Cook being bumped off of that sitcom? She was set to star in it and they decided to go with another actress. Really annoying. It’s like that show on the WB that was set to launch with her last year. It sounded really good and they pushed it back to mid season but then bumped it all together. We need Rachael Leigh Cook on something. I did see her on the Late Late Show the other night with Craig Ferguson. I was flipping through the channels on Memorial Day and found 90210 and Melrose Place on Soap Net. Both air weekdays in the afternoon around 4:00 or 5:00. That was a great find as I was a huge fan of both of those shows. 90210 is currently in the last Brenda year on Soap Net.
Some news on the upcoming annual Superman Celebration on June 9-12 in Metropolis, IL. John Schneider, from Smallville, will be at the festival this year. I plan on going to it as I enjoy going to this every year just to watch the Q&A. The Q&A and autograph signings are on Saturday morning and afternoon. Other guests include Margot Kidder, Mark Waid, Noel Neill, Steve Stanley, and Lin Workman.
I have to comment on some of my favorite reality shows that have just wrapped up their seasons in the last few weeks. Survivor Palau was one of the better seasons of Survivor. I was disappointed with who it came down to in the final 2. I was annoyed to see Katie get to the final 2 against Tom. You have to give it to Tom cause he was the strongest through the whole show. First time ever possibly that the strongest and most dominant person actually won it. What was with Ian making the deal for Tom to take Katie to the final 2? Forget that. You’ve come that far and it’s everyone for themselves at that point. I understand why he did it but it’s Survivor. The Amazing Race had one of its best seasons. Joyce and Uchenna definitely deserved to win. They were very likable from the beginning and worked hard to get to the end. I was pulling for Rob and Amber too so it actually worked out for me that they finished 1st and 2nd. Ron and Kelly finished 3rd. I liked Ron quite a bit but Kelly was one of the most unlikable people on this season. Only a little over a month till Big Brother begins!!!!
What would my entertainment thoughts be without some Buffy and Angel stuff? Many of the casts from these shows did very well with the shows being picked up for the fall. Alyson Hannigan’s “How I Met Your Mother”, Christian Kane’s “American Crime” and Amy Acker’s new show “The Unit” all were picked up by CBS. Nick Brendon’s show “Kitchen Confidential” will be on Fox on Mondays at 7:30. David Boreanaz’s “Bones” will be on Tuesdays at 7pm on Fox. Speaking of the Whedonverse, I just read an interview where Joss talks about how he feels that he isn’t done with the Buffy/Angel series. He said he just now taking a breath after 8 straight years of storytelling. He loves working with so much of the cast. He said that he thought Sarah and David had moved on to other stuff but there were many other characters that could be used in a series. The most obvious is the talked about Spike series. Rumors continue to fly about it and James Marsters is very interested in it but he said they need to do it soon cause he will get too old for the role with the whole vampires can’t age thing.
This post is getting kind of long and I haven’t covered everything I was going to cover so I think I’ll save it for the next one cause I still have to rant on the cancellations on American Dreams, Joan Of Arcadia, and 8 Simple Rules.
