Let the Big Brother withdrawal begin!! This is the time of the year where after 3 months of Big Brother, it is always hard to go back to normal from the 24/7 feeds news, House Calls, and to 3 episodes of shows a week. The finale was on Tuesday night and I found it to be really interesting. It came down to Maggie and Ivette unfortunately. Janelle lost to Ivette on Friday night in the final HOH with Ivette taking friendship over money and taking Maggie with her to the final 2. I really found the jury talk to be interesting with it sounding like the Friendship were even shocked with some of the things they were learning about Maggie and Ivette. Wow, did James just flat out tell it like it is or what. He always does and I liked all his thoughts on everything. I really found his thoughts interesting on saying how Ivette said she was playing for her family but she picks a person she has known for 3 months to go to the final 2. The jury was brutal on Maggie and Ivette with the questioning. The two of them were just really stunned over the tone of the questioning. Maggie won with a 4-3 vote to win Big Brother 6. I think out of the two of them, that is who I would have voted for but I second guess that statement as I didn’t want to see either of them win. I thought it was interesting how when the jury was introduced how the Friendship got this laid back polite applause while the level went up for the Sovereign 6 group. That was yet another reality check for the Friendship on how America doesn’t like them like they think we do. Did you hear how loud the crowd was for Janelle coming out? I loved that and kept watching the Friendship to see their reaction. Other Big Brother alumni seen in the crowd were Marvin ,Will, and Drew from BB5, Jack and Erika from BB4, and Josh from BB1. House Calls is going to do some shows next week after some suggestions from fans on how we’d like to have the houseguests interviewed when they’ve seen some of the shows while seeing the reaction to them outside of the house. Wow, what a run on sentence that was!!! Ivette has already started to see the light as apparently her girlfriend filled her in on a lot of things on the shows and from the feeds. Some of the interviews they have done have been softball questions while others have really upset the Friendship. With the announcement of more House Calls next week, I’ll have more Big Brother to talk about in the next Write Up.
I found it interesting to check out this week’s ratings from the WB. 7th Heaven has been the highest rated WB show for a long time now but this week, Gilmore Girls was right below it. 7th Heaven’s season premiere did a 3.8 rating while the 2nd episode of the season for Gilmore Girls did a 3.6 rating. I found the Star Wars Episode 3 conversation on Gilmore Girls this week to be hilarious along with the talk about the Bewitched movie. The runaway bride from Georgia was even mentioned in this week’s episode.
“Just Like Heaven” debuted at number one at the movie box office over the weekend with $16.5 million. “The Exorcism Of Emily Rose was bumped down to number 2 with $15.3 million. Fall box office numbers overall seem to be on an upswing at the moment after a bad summer box office money season. 3rd was “Lord Of War” with $9.2 million. “The 40 Year Old Virgin” moved up to 4th place with $5.8 million. “Cry Wolf” opened in 5th place with $4.6 million. I’m looking forward to seeing “Just Like Heaven” as it looks like a good movie.
I watched the series premiere of How I Met Your Mother and I really liked it. I laughed out loud at it quite a few times. The basic idea of the show is that it’s a dad telling his kids a story in the future of how he met their mother. He tells how they are going to go back to 2005 to tell the story. The cast is really good. Alyson Hannigan is funny and I really cracked up at Neil Patrick Harris’s character. He is really funny on there. This show has a unique style to it that not a lot of other sitcoms have and I hope the rest of the episodes are as good as the premiere was. So, it gets a thumbs up from me. The show did a 7.2 rating for it’s premiere.
I’ve heard really good things about My Name Is Earl’s premiere on NBC. I am going to check it out as apparently Bravo is going to show a replay of it this weekend and I have it set to record. Why Bravo? I refuse to watch it on NBC cause yeah, I’m still really bitter over the cancellation of American Dreams. Yes, and I do know that they are all owned by the same company but it’s the principle behind it. ha ha.
Here is a ton of various stuff. The Regis and Kelly Relly Awards show will be seen tomorrow morning. It’s always a fun show every year and I’m sure this year will be the same. The final season of Dawson’s Creek appears to be headed to DVD in 2006. Is anyone else’s wallet screaming in pain as much as mine is with the news of all the DVD releases coming up from now till the holidays? Especially box sets!!! I won’t be picking up Dawson’s Creek though as I’m sure it will suffer from the same music replacement seen in the season 2-5 DVD sets. I’ll be sticking with my recorded episodes. Someone posted on a message board about a letter that was in the letters section of Entertainment Weekly with a fan complaining about EW giving good reviews on box sets such as the Cosby Show and complaining about how they didn’t let fans know about the syndicated episodes being on there. That’s pretty big for that letter to get in the magazine and maybe it will get the production companies attention. The TV Shows On DVD site said that they had recently talked to a studio about a DVD set that was goofed up and the person replied that Entertainment Weekly gave them an “A” review. The message they kind of got out of that conversation was that they didn’t care about the real reviews of it due to EW giving them a perfect review and they’ll sell more because of it. I was checking out the WB site on Monday and they had a preview up of the 7th Heaven season premiere. I was stunned to see it say that the premiere was the show’s 200th episode!! Wow, it seems like just a couple of years ago when I watched the 100th episode and how big of a deal that episode was. Some Buffy/Angel news but nothing big. There is still talk on doing a Spike movie and Joss Whedon is all but confirming that it will happen. He’s telling James Marsters to stay in shape. Preorders are now being taken for the Puppet Angel Battle Damaged Replica Toy and are going for $49.95. It will be released in early 2006. These will sell fast!! For anyone wanting Buffy 2006 calendars, you may want to start looking for them now cause the stock is limited on them so I’m going to have to hurry up and get one too.
Some reality TV stuff for you. I liked tonight’s Survivor although I had to question the sanity of the one tribe as they talked about voting off Stephenie. Yeah, let’s vote off our strongest player. That’s a smart move!!?? What are these people thinking? I think she can tell them what it is like to be have your tribe picked off one by one due to not being as strong. That happened to Steph at Palau. Was anyone else feeling as bad for Morgan as I did when she was voted off? She was legitimately blindsided and looked flat out heartbroken as can be. The Amazing Race Family Edition premieres this Tuesday. This will be an interesting experiment with the teams of 4.
I mentioned last month about Joss Whedon mentioning what a huge fan he is of Veronica Mars with him even saying that he thinks it is the best show ever. Well, the show must have heard it cause Joss Whedon will guest star on Veronica Mars in the 6th episode where he’ll play a rental car manager. A reminder that season 1 of Veronica Mars is coming to DVD on October 11th. The 2nd season premieres on October 5th.
The show continues to get a cult following as it continues to build on fans and a lot of people are comparing it to Buffy.
To follow up on something from last week, Oklahoma City has been given the opportunity to play host to the New Orleans Hornets for 35 home games. Oh well, the thought of Nashville getting some NBA was fun while it lasted. Oklahoma City will be good hosts for sure for the Hornets.
To close out this week, I just wanted to say keep the people of the gulf coast in your prayers as they continue to deal with the effects of Hurricane Katrina and now with Hurricane Rita on the way. It’s just unreal with how bad things are down there and the potential of it now getting worse. So, help anyway that you can. Talk to you next week.
