Joss Whedon’s Firefly movie “Serenity” opened well in theaters and opened in the 2nd spot. It opened with $10 million. “Flightplan” held the number one spot. “Serenity” was shown in 2188 less theaters than “Flightplan” but still held it’s own. “Serenity” seems to be doing what a lot of industry people expected it to do but said the real test will be next week to see how it does in its second week. I am hearing really good feedback on the movie.
You might want to check out your local Wal-Mart and Target stores as both stores appear to have dropped the prices on a lot of Warner Brothers box sets on DVD. They are selling for under $20. It seems to be season 1 & 2 sets of different TV series. These are the ones that I have read about being dropped so far with the season numbers following the name: Dallas seasons 1 & 2, Dukes of Hazzard – 1,2, ER – 1,2, Everybody Loves Raymond – 1,2, The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air – 1, Friends – 1,2, Full House – 1, Gilligan’s Island – 1,2, Gilmore Girls – 1,2, Lois and Clark – 1, Nip/Tuck – 1, One Tree Hill – 1, Smallville – 1,2, The Waltons – 1, The West Wing – 1,2, Without a Trace – 1, Wonder Woman – 1,2
It’s worth checking out if you are needing any of these or other Warner Brothers titles. I read earlier today that Wal-Mart.com has some of these listed on the website so you can order them. You’ll want to jump on it quick though as when sales like these pop up on the site, they sell out quickly.
If you would like to talk to anyone from the Buffyverse, here is your chance. There is an auction going now to help with the hurricane relief with the money going to the Red Cross and American Kennel Club Canine Support. Many people from the Buffyverse have decided to participate in this. There will be an auction held for each person where you can get a 10-15 minute phone conversation. Those participating so far are: Joss Whedon, Stephanie Romanov, David Fury, Tim Minear, Camden Toy, Dennis Christopher, George Hertzsberg, John Billingsly, and Scott Schwartz. Go to this address for more info.

Joss Whedon’s auction is already up to $510.
I finally got to watch the latest couple of episodes of Reunion over the weekend. Two good episodes and every episode gives us a little piece to solve the mystery of which friend murdered who and why. Now, the bad news. Due to the baseball playoffs, all new Fox programming will not return till early November. I completely forgot about this being a problem as I haven’t watched a drama on Fox since probably 90210. So, Reunion will return on November 3rd with the 4th episode. This is going to be a long impatient wait as it has become a show that I am excited to watch every week. In more good news for Reunion, Fox has apparently asked for 4 more scripts of the show which is a good sign.
In a story that made my jaw drop when I read it, Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes have announced that Katie is pregnant. WOW!!
I checked out the premiere of My Name Is Earl. I have to say that I liked it and laughed at it a lot. I’m definitely up for watching that show some more. It just has a lot different of a feel to it than other comedies on the air right now. It is shot with one camera and has no laugh track with it. It is averaging 13.3 million viewers so far and is the most watched new comedy of the season so far. Full season orders have been given by NBC to My Name Is Earl. UPN also has given a full season order to Everybody Hates Chris. The 2nd episode of Chris Rock’s show was down slightly from the premiere but is still doing good numbers. I haven’t watched Everybody Hates Chris but people seem to like it.
I talked about a special Best Buy exclusive Buffy The Vampire Slayer DVD based on Spike a couple of months ago. Well, there is a new one now. It’s called Curse Of The Hellmouth. It is a 2 DVD set that includes 8 episodes. It also includes a 16 minute featurette called Buffy: The Fear Inside. These are the episodes that are included on the set:
Season 1 episode: The Pack
Season 2 episodes: Halloween, Passion
Season 3 episodes: The Wish, Helpless
Season 4 episodes: Fear Itself, Hush
Season 7 episode: Same Time Same Place
Good episode tonight with Survivor. Survivor saw the tribes switched up which tested to see who would stay with their original tribe alliances. One did jump that caused Brooke to be voted off. Sometimes jumping tribe alliances works and other times it backfires so we’ll see.
Saturday Night Live is taking a big hit right now with two key people out of the lineup for now. Tina Fey just had a baby and it is not known when she will come back. Maya Rudolph is 7 months pregnant and was awaiting clearance from her doctor on whether she could travel to New York for SNL. I didn’t watch SNL’s premiere so I’m unaware if Maya Rudolph was on there or not. This is a big loss for SNL as they are two of the stars for sure. It will be interesting to see how they do with these two stars out. Fey and Amy Poehler last season formed the first ever all female tandem for the Weekend Update segments. They really did well with it too.
I mentioned last week about the battle between USA Network and Spike TV. Well, the ratings are in and all involved should be very happy with their first week numbers. TNA wrestling debuted Saturday night on Spike TV and got a 0.8 rating. WWE’s Velocity was doing around a 0.5 in that same time slot and TNA’s numbers across the board were higher than it. TNA’s replay on Monday night drew a 0.5 so in a way you can combine those two together. Spike’s UFC Ultimate Fight Night did a 1.6 rating which was also a good number. Spike was very happy. USA Network is also very happy as the return edition of WWE’s Raw to USA Network averaged a 4.4 rating. The show was 3 hours. The first hour did a 3.8, second hour did a 4.9 off the high rating of the Austin/McMahons segment, and the third hour came down to a 4.5. The second week will be even more interesting to see what audience comes back to both. I was very impressed with TNA’s debut and am thrilled that they are on national TV now as they are a good company and WWE’s Raw was also a solid show.
That’s it for another week. I wish all of you a great weekend!!
