Some season pickup news along with a cancellation. Good news for a couple of Buffy/Angel alums. CBS has given full season orders to Alyson Hannigan’s How I Met Your Mother, and also to Ghost Whisperer and Criminal Minds. Fox has given full season orders to David Boreanaz’s show Bones. Fox also picked up War At Home for the season. The WB show Just Legal has already been removed from the schedule as it was keeping hardly any of the 7th Heaven audience. It lost 40% of the 7th Heaven lead-in. It hasn’t been canceled but it doesn’t sound like it is coming back either. Production has stopped on the show. Last week’s show did not even break a 1.0 rating. WOW.
We have some big DVD movie releases upcoming. Batman Begins is released on DVD this Tuesday. There are two different editions that are being released. One just contains one disc and has basically just the movie. If you want extras, get the two disc deluxe edition!! I’ve checked Amazon and also Wal-Mart’s site and both sites list both editions as costing the same price. I haven’t seen Batman Begins so I am really pumped to see it as I’ve heard great things about it. I read an early review of the Star Wars Episode 3 DVD and it sounds like it has been really well done. Tons of extras to watch. It will be released on November 1st. I’ll have more on it as the date gets closer.
Dream’s Reality album has been leaked after a year and a half of no release with no release date ever in sight. It was set for release on August 12, 2003 and kept getting pushed back. The last date for release was May 25, 2004 but it was pulled. There was really no word on why it was never released but it was a decision by Bad Boy Entertainment to not release it. I don’t think Bad Boy thought the album was that good. Well, they were wrong cause I think the album is just as good as their first album. Dream is best known for their hit “He Loves You Not” in 2000. Dream hit the media circuit in 2003 to promote the new album including an interview I heard on Open House Party. Dream later broke up with rumors of Bad Boy wanting Dream to be what they didn’t want to be. The album was actually recorded in 2003. It looks like Bad Boy never planned on releasing it but somehow it was leaked out. The album is now out there and the consensus seems to be that Bad Boy really messed up as the feedback is good on the album from people that have heard it. Anyway, if you want to hear the album, it’s out there for you.
Some various thoughts on some shows from this week. I thought this week’s second episode of the season of One Tree Hill was a lot better than last week’s season premiere. It seemed like things just started to get in pace more this week than last. Last week seemed to feel more like a recap while this week started to set some stuff up for the season. I loved that All American Rejects song that was played in the last segment of the show. One huge part of the show each week is the music featured on the show. The right song in a scene can make that scene golden. That is one thing I would love to do if I was a musician would be to get a song in a show like that cause you reach a whole new audience with your music. Weezer also had one of their new songs featured in the episode. Tuesday’s episode of the Amazing Race was a fun one. The winners of that leg of the race won a lifetime supply of free gas. So, all 4 of them will get free gas forever!! Talk about a prize there. It’s the gift that keeps on giving especially with how the gas prices are right now. I was really bummed to see the Aiello family eliminated. They were the family with the father and his three son-in-laws. There was a challenge of having to drive a jeep across mud and then drive it back without getting it stuck. That was really fun to watch with them in it as they were loving it but frustrated with their problems in it. Again, I eat my words on this family of 4 edition being a bad idea as I’ve loved it so far.
Very exciting news from the Apple world this week. Apple unveiled plans for TV shows to now be available on i Tunes. They have an agreement with ABC where episodes of Lost and Desparate Housewives will be available for download. You can watch them on your computer or on the new iPod which is now able to show video. You can download an episode for $1.99 and they are ad free. Each episode is about the size of downloading 5 albums so a high speed connection is going to be needed. Very cool idea for any of you that might miss a show and now you have a backup option. Other shows from the ABC family that will be available are Night Stalker, and two shows from the Disney Channel including That’s So Raven and the Suite Life Of Zack and Cody. I highly recommend i Tunes and I become more and more of an Apple fan every day. You can download songs off of there for 99 cents each and they have an extensive catalog. I may have to spend 99 cents and get that All American Rejects song from this week’s One Tree Hill now that I think about it. You will have to have the newest version of i Tunes 6 to take advantage of the TV shows. Hopefully this idea will take off with some other networks cause I know that missing an episode of one of my favorite shows is one of the things that most annoys me so I would be happy to pay $1.99 to see what I missed. I’m sure others feel the same way.
I checked out the new “bigger, better” TV Guide and have to say that I really like it. It feels more like reading Entertainment Weekly. It’s definitely worth checking out. They weren’t kidding when they said that the TV listings were being cut down as they are a serious minority in TV Guide now. There is a ton more stories and a welcomed change. Most people have on screen guides now anyway, so the need for TV listings has went down. It was definitely the longest time spent that I’ve read a TV Guide in a long time as there was so much stuff to read and look at.
The Rock has been making media appearance this week promoting the movie “DOOM”. I never was able to get into the game as it just isn’t my thing but it was very popular. I actually saw an extended preview of DOOM when I was at the WWE Raw taping in Nashville last month. They showed the preview on the big screen during a commercial break just for us in the arena. It looked like a good movie and I definitely want to check it out.
The Buffy Musical lives again. What am I talking about? A San Francisco arts group called Counterpulse is doing a live stage production of the Once More With Feeling Buffy The Vampire Slayer musical episode. They are performing it from October 20-23 and then again on Halloween eve on October 30. They are doing two shows a night and 3 shows are already sold out. It will have a live band performing with actors and dancers. I hope some reviews of this pop up as I’d be curious to hear how it is.
I spent Saturday night getting caught up on a lot of shows so far from this early TV season. I am now caught up on Joey and am really enjoying the first 3 episodes. One goal for the writers this year is that they want to get Joey’s character out and about more instead of him being stuck inside. The show is still getting around a 5.0 rating. Joey tied Alias last week with a 5.0 rating for both shows. Survivor led the way with a 10.7 rating. Everybody Hates Chris got a 3.6 rating for UPN. Will and Grace drew a 5.9 rating.
I’m not big into the house fixing up type shows but my parents were watching this show on A&E called “Flip This House”. I watched it with them as they are liking it. I also really enjoyed it too. They take a house that is kind of run down and then they’ll buy it and fix it up to resell it. There are a lot of fun personalities on this show that make it a lot of fun besides seeing the amazing work they do on the houses.
Reggie Miller subbed in for Regis last week on Regis and Kelly as Regis was off to his daughter’s wedding. Reggie told Kelly Ripa about a story of her husband heckling her in New Jersey. He said that Mark was in the Jason Kidd seats and was calling him a bum and everything else. It was very funny. At the end of the show, Mark showed up with flowers to give to Reggie and apologized. Really funny segment. Reggie did give us the news that he is going to be in the broadcast booth for the NBA on TNT this season.
I don’t normally watch David Letterman but I had to stop when I saw Jack Hanna on there. Animals on talk shows are always fun. They had this bird on there that could fly up to 200mph. They let it loose in the studio to show its speed. Dave’s band director, Paul, dove to the floor as it flew toward his area and then flew around the studio. Very funny!!
That’s all for another week.
