I’m going to start with Star Wars this week. It’s a big upcoming week for Star Wars fans. Star Wars Episode 3 is released to DVD on Tuesday. Keep an eye on the sale papers this weekend if you are buying it. There will be tons of special offers from stores wanting you to buy the DVD from them. Best Buy is offering an exclusive Darth Vader lithograph if you buy it there but I think you have to be a Reward Zone member to get the offer. Wal-Mart is offering a bonus disc of one hour of stuff. Not sure what Circuit City has planned yet. As far as price, someone on this DVD board that I go to often leaks the sale ad info as far as prices early. It looks like the stores aren’t naming any prices for the DVD and will go with the often annoying “low price” thing. It looks likely that it will be around $14.99 due to the online prices. I still say that this movie was my favorite of the whole Star Wars saga and I’m looking forward to seeing it again. I actually saw it twice at the theaters.
Here is some various movie news. DOOM starring the Rock opened at number one at the box office with $14.5 million. 2nd place went to the new Dakota Fanning movie, Dreamer, with $9.3 million. I read something about The Fantastic 4 movie sequel and it is looking like it will open on July 4, 2007. This will open on the same weekend as the live action Transformers movie. If they mess up this Transformers movie, I will not be a happy camper.
With the World Series and MLB playoffs now over, the Fox season is ready to get back going again. Reunion returns one week from tonight next Thursday and we’ll resume in 1989 with the story. So glad that show is back!! That 70’s Show is also set to premiere for the season.
Buffy executive producer Marti Noxon said that there have been a lot of discussions about doing some straight to DVD Buffyverse movies. These would feature movies on various characters and would be of the quality that we are used to with the show. This is good news for sure. She said that she was unsure if they could get Sarah, Alyson, or David to reprise any of their roles due to schedule conflicts. Alyson has said many times that she would love to do something as Willow again but maybe they could work around her new show schedule. David has said that he wasn’t interested unless it was taking it to a new level as far as a movie. I don’t know if a made for DVD movie counts or not. I’m sure he will listen to ideas for sure.
Michael Jordan has been making appearances to promote his new book that is now in book stores. He was on 60 Minutes on Sunday. It was cool to see his camp where you pay a set amount of money and then you get to play basketball with him and also get to ask him questions in a Q&A. I would just be in awe if I got to go to that thing. Some interesting notes out of the 60 Minutes interview was when he was asked about the Wizards. He felt he was used by the Wizards where he basically came back to play to help out the organization and he then retired and was tossed to the side by management. He said that if he knew that he was never going to get his role back with the organization that he never would have came back to play again. I felt the same way about Washington. He made them a ton of money and then they kicked him out the door. Michael also appeared on Oprah for the full hour on Tuesday. Charles Barkley was a surprise guest and was on the show with Michael for the last 35 minutes. The two of them had me cracking up as always. Michael Jordan has always been my favorite athlete ever which many of you have known for well over a decade now. Charles Barkley is in my top 5 favorite players of all time for sure so the two of them together was a treat. They talked about Charles’ golf game and how Charles has retired cause he is so bad. He said that he has been trained by Michael and also Tiger Woods and also been hypnotized as he thinks his bad luck in golf is mental. Charles said that all he got out of being hypnotized was a nap. ha ha. Michael brought up an excellent point about today’s NBA compared to when he and Charles were playing. He mentioned how himself, Charles, Magic, etc. had to earn what they got in the league. It wasn’t given to them. Now, the players are given the big money contracts before they earn it. It’s all handed to them right away and he thinks that is one thing that hurts the league. Very good point. If you are a fan of either player, you missed a lot of fun on Oprah. I’ll be picking up Michael’s book very soon and I am really looking forward to reading it.
I’m putting all my reality TV thoughts for this week into this paragraph. House Calls: The Big Brother talk show wrapped up its season this week and had Ivette on the phone for the last episode. Ivette was Ivette. I could see her point on a few things but couldn’t on most things. On to Survivor, the merge is underway with tonight’s episode. I want to give Amy all the credit for sure for how long she made it on the show considering how hurt she has been. She is just flat out tough.
If I could suggest another show this year to watch, I again recommend How I Met Your Mother. The best episode of the season so far has been with Ted and Barney heading off to the airport to pick up girls. I heard quite a compliment last week where they compared Barney to Kramer as far as standout characters on a show. Barney’s plan is that they will pick up girls at the airport. Ted is often dumbfounded with a lot of Barney’s ideas and this one was the same way. Barney said that it was perfect cause you go there and hang out and talk to girls that are in town for a little 2 day vacation. Then, you pick them up for a 2 day fling and then it’s over. So, the guys put their bags on the baggage claim and go mingle. They end up meeting two girls who tell the guys that they are on their way to Philly. Barney gets the great idea of telling them that they are going to Philly too which they were not doing. So, they get on the same plane with the girls much to Ted’s dismay. They find out on the plane that the girls are on their way to see their boyfriends who are linebackers on a NFL team. They are then stuck on this plane with no chance with these girls. The guys are then confronted by police and security and taken off the plane. They tell the guys that they have had an eye on Barney for a long time now. They were upset over the bags being left at the airport and then never picked back up while he walked away leading to security concerns. It turns out that Barney has had the police attention for a long time now. They then show airport security camera footage of Barney leaving his bag at the claim multiple times over 6 months in his attempt to pick up girls. It was hilarious how they just showed these multiple camera clips over and over knowing how he has been doing this strategy of picking up girls for months. I was cracking up at it!!! Give this show a chance and see if you like it. It airs Monday nights at 7:30pm central time on CBS.
Jess returns on Gilmore Girls in 2 weeks and it looks like he is going to be someone that is really going to try and straighten out Rory. I would also like to point that on One Tree Hill this week that I called that being Chris that kissed Haley in the Batman suit. Ok, so I cheated by seeing Tyler Hilton’s name on the credits at the beginning so I knew he was going to pop up in the episode somewhere.
Jason Priestley guest starred on What I Like About You in the first part of a two episode story. It was a 90210 reunion with Priestly and Jennie Garth together. His character is very funny and is clinging big time to Val and she can’t get rid of him. After one date, he is ready to marry her. It’s really funny. The opening scene of them together had Priestley’s character asking Val if they went to high school together. He said he was editor of the school paper and that she was friends with his sister. Very funny!! Tomorrow night’s episode will be the second part and be the Halloween episode.
The weekly album charts are out and Ashlee Simpson is number one in her debut week selling 227,477 albums. This is her second album to debut at number one but she didn’t sell as many as her first album in its first week. Number 2 is Rod Stewart with 186,554 followed by Martina McBride and Nickelback in the number 3 and 4 spots.
Have a good and safe Halloween!!
