I have Season 10 of Friends now and it’s so weird to think that the Friends collection is now complete. The DVD is done again very well. I have bad news as the One With The Other Ones show is not on the DVD due to clearance reasons which I’m taking as partially probably music clearance. So, it looks like I will have to keep a hold on to that episode that I recorded the night of the finale. The blooper reel is very good this time around. They do separate blooper reels for seasons 1-4 and then a season 10 one too. All of these had me cracking up. The season 10 reel is hilarious!!! There is also a featurette that has interviews with all the cast and crew talking about the show and how it all came together while also discussing the last episode. There are commentaries on various episodes. There are plenty of good episodes on this season including the Thanksgiving episode and the Ross gets a tan episode. The info to get the collector’s box is in the season 10 set and it is $20 to get it. $10 for the box and $10 to ship it. From reports of people that have seen it in stores, the box is made out of the wood and is put together really nice. You don’t have to send in any UPC’s or anything but you do have to buy season 10 to get the order form inside it. I have already sent off for mine so I’m looking forward to getting it. They are saying 8-10 weeks to receive it so the wait is going to be long.
I watched Fever Pitch on Saturday night. I figured that I would really like this movie and I did. It’s just a fun movie that has a funny plot to it. Jimmy Fallon’s character is a diehard Boston Red Sox fan who became a fan of the team by going to games with his uncle when he was little. When his uncle passes away, he leaves his season tickets to him. Drew Barrymore’s character basically has to deal with this passion for Red Sox baseball that he has as they begin dating. I love the relationship that Fallon’s character has with the rest of the people around him that also have season tickets. They just across as a really tight family and I can totally see that kind of thing happening with season ticketholders where you get to know everyone. The DVD includes many good deleted scenes. One particular deleted scene shows more about the story with the boy and his uncle which I thought added a lot more to the backstory especially with the man that sat behind him and how the boy and him got along great right from the first day. In an ironic twist to go along with the movie plot, I watched this movie making sure that I would have plenty of time to watch the movie before the Bulls game started. ha ha.
Some cancellation shockers to tell about this week. One of them really has me confused. First, Fox has cancelled Arrested Development which is going to infuriate a lot of people as this was a really loved show. I have never watched it but heard great things about it. The show has won an Emmy award and critics loved it. The new show Kitchen Confidential, which starred Nicholas Brendon of Buffy fame, has also been cancelled. Now, here is the shocker. The WB has cancelled 7th Heaven!! The WB is saying that it is mostly cost cutting for the reasoning of the cancellation. This is the same reason that the WB gave for canceling Angel last year. It seems like canceling that show is likely to cut into your revenue for such a popular show so the cost cutting excuse just doesn’t do much for me. The show will end in May after 10 years on the air. This just blows my mind considering that 7th Heaven and Gilmore Girls are battling right now for being the highest rated show on the network. The show has had quite a run for sure. I got behind on it about a couple of years ago and have never gotten caught up on it. The show has went through some changes over the years with cast members leaving and returning while adding new characters. Some of the fun from the show kind of went out for me when they added Kevin. It was funny cause most of Lucy’s boyfriends have been likable characters and then here he comes and I just found him to be obnoxious. It figures that the one boyfriend of hers that I didn’t like, she marries him and he’s there for good. ha ha. It was shocking news to read this but 7th Heaven has had a great run over the past 10 years. I hope they go out strong.
Regis and Kelly will be having an all Seinfeld show on November 23rd. The Seinfeld cast will reunite for this show in promotion of the Seinfeld seasons 5 and 6 being released on DVD this Tuesday. Regis is having a big week as it was announced that he will be hosting Fox’s New Year’s Eve celebration. Regis also will be hosting the show revival of This Is Your Life on ABC. Regis’s Christmas CD also hit stores so it’s great to hear of all the good news for him. He’s a true class act and watching him and Kelly always gets my mornings off to the right start.
We got a bombshell dropped on this week’s Gilmore Girls. It looks like Luke has a 12 year old daughter that he didn’t know about. Wow!! The idea on how he found out was really funny and unique for sure. For the rest of the episode, we finally got the reunion of Rory and Lorelei. It hasn’t been as much fun as normal this season without them speaking to each other.
How early are the Christmas commercials this year? They were on way before Halloween this year. There are so many Christmas commercials going on that I feel way behind on Christmas shopping and the holidays all together. I suddenly feel rushed for sure.
XM Radio has debuted on DirecTV. I still haven’t gotten to listen to it as much I’d like to yet. I’ve wanted to check out XM Radio for a long time so it’s nice to have it as part of the regular TV programming package. I love the 90’s channel. I’m hearing songs on there that I haven’t heard in forever!! A lot of these songs bring back a ton of memories. They have a channel for each decade going back to the 40’s and on up to the 90’s. They have one channel that is mostly all talk shows. I flipped over there once and listened to one of the shows for a few minutes but the people on there were just so downright offensive at times that I just didn’t want to listen anymore. I’m not sure what the official count of channels is for how many different channels that there are but I do know that it is more than what we got with Music Choice. I’ll give a more thorough review when I get to listen to it more.
Have you seen the new Gatorade commercial that shows great moments in sports history and they have digitally changed the outcome? They look really believable. They have Michael Jordan’s winning shot on Cleveland in 1989 on there but the ending is changed where Jordan misses and Craig Ehlo is celebrating. It looks so real too. I have to admit that when I saw it, it kind of sent a little bit of shock and anger through my body seeing that shot miss just cause I’m so used to seeing that highlight. Honesty, my stomach turned a bit when I saw it miss. There are other sports moments on there too.
I just wanted to touch on Survivor for a second. I am really pulling for Gary to win this thing. Gary was going to be gone last week but he found the secret immunity idol which kept him in the game. With him finding it, Bobby Jon was sent home. Gary was once again a marked man this week but Jamie got on so many people’s nerves that his own alliance turned on him. He was constantly paranoid and going up to his alliance asking if everything was good with the plan multiple times a day. He was driving everyone nuts and has been for weeks. I was shocked that they did vote him out but I was glad. I’ve been waiting for him and Judd to get voted out for weeks. That alliance has been really arrogant at times to where a few members of the alliance have questioned if they are on the right side. It’s funny cause Rafe had realized how he may be on the wrong side. He joked a couple of weeks ago asking if “he was with the axis of evil”. Cindy has shown signs of not being thrilled with the attitudes of her alliance either. It will be interesting to see what the reaction is to Jamie being voted out especially since not everyone in the alliance knew they were going to get rid of one of their own.
Is it just me or have all the networks just become absolutely obsessed with seeing how much stuff that they can put on the screen to distract you from what you are watching? Music videos on VH-1 and MTV are littered with stuff on the screen. I cannot stand the ones that make noise. I’m talking about the ones that make all kinds of noise when you’re trying to hear the conversation on the show. FX was really bad about this for a while. You’d be watching Buffy and this helicopter or something flies on the screen making all kinds of noise and I can’t hear what the Scooby Gang’s plan of attack is. Not all of these drive me crazy. It’s just the ones that have no point or distract you enough from what you are watching.
Have a great weekend!!
