Fox had a huge night on Tuesday night with the top 12 beginning on American Idol. Their ratings almost doubled up second place for the night, CBS. Idol had a 17.4 in the first hour and jumped up to a 19.5 in the second hour. NCIS on CBS was the best competition for Idol as it got a 11.1. CBS held that audience in the second hour with The Unit getting a 10.9 rating. This week’s show featured the contestants doing Stevie Wonder songs. Most of them struggled with his songs as his songs are hard to sing. It was two opposite hours on Tuesday night. The first hour saw contestants struggle while the second hour saw the rest of them doing really well. It really was a tale of two hours. I thought Katharine and Chris were the best of the group and Paris was right there too. Let’s get to last night’s results show which I thought was going to end up in a shocker. Two of the bottom three were stunning. The bottom three were Ace Young, Melissa McGhee, and Lisa Tucker. Ace and Lisa had no place being there for sure. Melissa was who I expected to go home and she did go home. I really thought Ayla should have gotten in over her last week and I’m not happy that Ayla missed out on the final 12. Melissa had a rough week with her forgetting the lyrics to Stevie’s song in front of Stevie and then forgetting the lyrics when she performed on Tuesday night. She said last night that she knew that she was going home. This always happens every year with there being stunners on who ends up in the bottom three but it just happened quicker this year. My theory and many other people’s theory on this is that there are certain people that you see that think are going to coast along cause they are good. People vote for the underdogs that they think might not get as many votes. That is what I think happened last night and it won’t be the last time that happens this season. Line of the week was Simon telling Taylor Hicks: “You’re like every dad that’s ever got drunk at a wedding”. He said it was a compliment saying that tons of dads have gotten drunk at weddings and got up on stage to sing songs. Simon said that the difference was that Taylor can sing. Interesting week on Idol for sure. Carrie Underwood will be performing Saturday night as part of a Women Of Country show at the Grand Ole Opry in Nashville. It looks to be airing live on GAC from what I can tell. The show airs at 7pm and there will be several encore showings of it. Also on the show is Lee Ann Wommack, Lorrie Morgan, and Danielle Peck.
The annual NCAA tournament pick your bracket game is underway. We have a record turnout for it this year. Thanks to everyone who jumped in to play. We have several newcomers this year which will make it even more exciting. The trash talking for this game started last week and will no doubt continue until the end of the tournament or until the first bracket buster game result. ha ha. We always have a great time with this and I have no doubt that this year will be just as much fun and probably more. Please post over on the message board if you get the chance as we’ll have some fun with that. While I’m talking about the tournament, hey Seton Hall, will you do something in this game please? Just something!!! Please??!! Good luck to everyone playing in the tournament game and have fun!!
I said last week that Joey was back. Well, it’s gone again. Joey didn’t perform well at all on its move to Tuesday night. The show only got 4 million viewers going against American Idol and NCIS. The show got half of the viewers that it was getting on Thursday nights. NBC has pulled the show from the lineup and it isn’t clear if it will return. I do wonder how much promotion that NBC did on Joey moving to Tuesday night. I know that when American Dreams got moved to a new night that it didn’t get enough promotion to let people know about it. I actually forgot about Joey’s move until I saw that night’s schedule and set it up to record. With the viewers being cut in half from Thursday, it does make me wonder if people just didn’t know. It’s a bummer as I really enjoy the show. Since season 1 is coming out on DVD, I’m sure season 2 will follow and will include any episodes that don’t possibly get aired.
CBS and Apple are teaming together for the NCAA tournament on iTunes. Fans can pay $1.99 for condensed versions of games in the tournament. There is also a season pass for $19.99 and you will receive all 63 games in condensed versions on the day after they are played. With the pass, it will automatically be put on your download list. They are also offering full length versions of the championship game and also of the semifinals along with some best of type shows of previous tournaments. CSTV is producing the condensed versions of the games.
I would have loved to be the person to download the billionth song from iTunes. Apple offered a huge prize to the person that was the one to download it. The person got a $10,000 iTunes music card along with a 20 inch iMac computer. I’m not done. They also got ten 60GB iPod’s!! What song did the person download? “Speed Of Sound” by Coldplay. It’s kind of fitting and also a really good song.
More news out of iTunes. I was looking around the other day and found out that HBO offers several of their shows as podcasts to download on iTunes. Curb Your Enthusiasm, Extras, and Entourage are some of the shows that I’ve seen talked about in articles. So, if you want to watch any of the shows and don’t have HBO, you have another option. I believe it is free to download.
I want to thank Todd for showing me the trailer for the new movie “Talladega Nights: The Ballad Of Ricky Bobby”. It looks to be a funny movie that stars Will Ferrell with racing as the subject. I believe it will open in August at theaters.
The season finale of How I Met Your Mother will feature an Angel reunion with it being announced already that Alexis Denisof will guest star on the show that stars his wife Alyson Hannigan. It has now been announced that Amy Acker will also appear on the season finale. Amy will play a woman that had a fling with Barney. The show has been picked up for another season by CBS which is great to hear!! There is talk of there being planning underway for the first season to be put out on DVD.
The Amazing Race is 3 episodes into the season. There has been a ton of traveling so far. I don’t really have a team that I am pulling for yet specifically. I guess it is still early. This week’s episode was a to be continued episode where they do the tease that the leg of the race is over but it isn’t.
Playstation 3 has been delayed until November. Sony announced yesterday that the delay was because of problems finalizing their next generation optical disc technology. PS3 is going with Blu-Ray technology. PS3 will allow you to play playstation 1 and 2 games. Let the conspiracy theories begin with the sudden delay allowing them to put out PS3 right before Christmas. PS2 was released in November in 2000 which led to much difficulty in people trying to find them before Christmas due to limited production.
I just have to say that I love this episode of Friends that is on as I type this. “The One With The Blackout”. This is the episode from season 1 where the power goes out in the city. The stuff with Chandler being stuck with the model in the ATM vestibule is hilarious!! Great episode and one of my favorites by far of the whole series!!!
Have a great weekend!!
