It was country week on this week’s American Idol. Kenny Rogers was on the show this week helping out the contestants with the songs. It seemed like some struggled with country and others really shined. This was Kellie’s week for sure as she was one of the best. I thought Katharine was really good too. The bottom three were Elliott Yamin, Mandisa, and Paris Bennett. Mandisa went home last night. I liked Mandisa for sure but she did struggle with country as others did. Wow, Paris in the bottom three??!! That surprised me and I didn’t like her being in the bottom three. Katharine avoided the bottom three this week to recover from her scare last week. I spread my votes over three contestants this week after what almost happened last week. I spread my votes among Katharine, Chris, and Kellie. I really like that “had a bad day” song that they play at the end of each elimination episode. I hear that song on the radio all the time. Next week’s show will feature the contestants singing the music of Queen. I can see several struggling next week. Lisa Tucker, who was eliminated last week, is set to guest star on an upcoming episode of The O.C.
Hey, here is a shocker or not. The music industry is wanting Apple’s iTunes to raise the prices on song and album downloads. Apple’s Steve Jobs has already come out and said that he is against any price hike. Jobs had this to say about it “So if they want to raise the prices it just means they’re getting a little greedy. Customers think the price is really good where it is. We’re trying to compete with piracy, we’re trying to pull people away from piracy and say, ‘You can buy these songs legally for a fair price, but if the price goes up a lot, they’ll go back to piracy. Then everybody loses.” The music industry appears to be concerned over people just picking over a few songs on an album instead of buying the whole album. I Tunes is said to have 82% of the audience of the legal downloads. Music piracy has been a lot less since iTunes and other sites have gotten involved in selling legal downloads. It has been really big business. People backlashed against the music industry before and I have to think that they are on shaky ground right now especially if they try a price hike. Apple isn’t backing down by far on this thing and says they will not raise prices. I highly recommend checking out I Tunes for music downloads and also many podcasts that you should check out. Personally, I love the 99 cent charge for songs. I think that is a great price.
Angel is heading to the Sci-Fi Channel. No not new episodes but wouldn’t that be nice??!! Sci-Fi has purchased the rights to air all 5 seasons of the show. It will begin airing soon. Sci-Fi also already airs one other Joss Whedon series, Firefly. They have also picked up quite a bit of Star Trek programming. Sci-Fi is excited about picking up these shows that have such a devoted audience.
I picked up season 3 of Full House this week. Interesting to note that Warner Brothers has changed the packaging going away from what they have done for seasons 1 & 2. They did just have the foldout type display for the discs. Now, they have two separate thin cases in the box holding two discs each. Either way of the packaging is fine with me.
Ok, I mentioned how last week that Survivor had gotten dull this season. It got a little more interesting last week with the merge. Shane did away with his alliance but when the other tribe was on their way to merge, he suddenly wanted the alliance back. They agreed. Why? I don’t know. How great would it have been if they tried to vote off Terry and he pulled out that immunity idol? That would have sent Shane home. That would have been one of the greatest game twists ever. It looks like Terry is going to reveal tonight that he has found the secret immunity idol from the previews.
Plenty of talk show stuff going on this week. Katie Couric is leaving the Today Show to go to host the CBS Evening News. It is interesting to note that CBS Evening News’ ratings have went up lately so it will be interesting to see if the ratings increase with Katie, stay the same, or decrease. Meredith Vierra of The View was being talked about as a replacement for Katie and I found it interesting that the day that Katie made the announcement that there was no talk of Katie’s announcement on The View. Today saw Meredith make the announcement on the show that she is going to take the Today Show job. Tony Danza’s talk show has been canceled. I watched his show some during the first season but then it went head to head with Regis and Kelly here locally. I watch Regis and Kelly every day so I never get to watch Danza’s show anymore. I do like it though when I watch it. I thought it was a mistake when the show decided to get rid of Ereka Ventrini before the second season started. She was a sidekick to Tony on the show. I thought she was really good on there and Tony wasn’t happy about her leaving either. It’s hard for these talk shows to stick around anymore. Lots of pressure on them to perform.
Amazing Race has moved to Wednesday at 7pm. The reason was that it wasn’t doing so well in its new Tuesday at 9pm timeslot. CBS moved it there to get it away from American Idol but it actually hurt the show more than it helped it as far as its average ratings. CBS is hoping that Wednesday will be better for it. I am really getting into this season now as it has now gotten to the point of the season where we are figuring teams out. I don’t really have a favorite that I am pulling for but I have several teams that I like. Last night saw David and Lori eliminated. Did you notice that they had their own theme music? They would play this same music several times when the show would be revolving around their moments. Pretty funny. How funny was Lake high fiving that guy that he thought was the grounds keeper only for it not to be? I cracked up at that!! I was hoping that I had won a free Race shirt and hat last night as I picked both the winner of the leg of the race and also the team eliminated on the Amazing Race game. Some others got it right too which kept me from winning. I am definitely doing better at this one than I am in the Survivor game. I can’t seem to get more than one thing right a week on the Survivor game. Sometimes I am lucky to get one right!!
John Stamos will join ER as a regular next season. He was looking to be on the show this year but because of “Jake In Progress” couldn’t do it.
I’m really looking forward to checking out that ABC show “What About Brian”. It looks good just from the plot of it. I always liked Barry Watson on 7th Heaven so I’m sure he’ll be good on this show as well.
Arrested Development is said to be done. The show’s creator has said that he is not going to be involved with the show anymore in the future which likely ends the possibility of the show continuing. The show was likely heading over to Showtime but with the show’s creator out, it looks to be over. It seemed to be a mix of creative and financial problems that has led to him walking away.
That is all for this week. Have a great weekend. Stay safe with these storms coming through later tonight!!
