The final five has been set for American Idol. We are down to Katharine McPhee, Chris Daughtry, Paris Bennett, Taylor Hicks, and Elliott Yamin. That means going home last night was Kellie Pickler. What a bummer. Sad to see her go. Kellie got about as far as I guess I expected her to. The others are just stronger vocally. My personal opinion on her is that it looked like she had lost a bit of her confidence. The judges have been kind of rough on her the last couple of weeks and she just didn’t seem herself. She’s even been saying herself that she wasn’t doing good. I thought it was sad last week after the judges put down her performance that she said that she wouldn’t sing it again and put them through the torture. Kellie did really good throughout the competition. She was definitely one of the good stories of Idol this year and someone that you wanted to pull for immediately at the auditions. The story of the rough life that she has had growing up just made you want to see her do well. I’m sure we’ll be seeing Kellie quite a bit in the entertainment world in the future. Wow, I was a little nervous watching those groups split into groups of two. When I saw Katharine and Chris together, I thought please don’t let that be the bottom two cause then one of them would be going home. They ended up being the top two vote getters. I still say it is Katharine vs. Chris in the final two and then it is hard to pick cause both are so good. What I like about this year is that it is more wide open for winning than in year’s past. There isn’t a clear cut favorite. Season 2 was maybe the last time where it was more wide open. Season 3 had everyone picking Fantasia early although I was a Diana fan. Last season, Carrie was the favorite from early on to win it. I picked her from the first time I saw her audition. Yep, I’m going to brag some more on that. ha ha. Going into last night’s results show, it just had a feeling of ANYONE can go home tonight cause it is so strong of a competition. The final four that I would like to see is Katharine, Chris, Paris, and Taylor. Tuesday’s performance show sure was an interesting one. Wow, the judges were harsh!! Here is my question for Randy Jackson. Did you like anything on Tuesday night? Geez, he was harsh on everything. It’s funny cause most people say that they disagree with Simon but I am not that way at all. I tend to agree with Simon more although he obviously could be a lot nicer in how he says things. As far as opinions though, I do agree with him most of the time. The one I disagree with the most is Randy. This goes back to at least season 2 with me disagreeing with him most of the time. I kept waiting for Simon to snap cause he kept getting cut off as the show was running long. I knew we were in trouble with the judges when they hammered Katharine on her performance. What exactly was so bad about her rendition of “I Have Nothing”? Randy tells her that the song was too big for her and that she should be trying to copy Whitney. This is when the judges tell them to put their own spin on songs which Katharine did. This is my main problem with the judges is that they contradict themselves at times. One week they’ll critique someone for staying safe and say that they need to be taking risks. The next week will see the contestant take a risk and the judges will say that it’s not the right time to be taking risks. What is up with Ryan Seacrest and Paula Abdul? I read about the alleged feud going on between the two of them. I saw the Tonight Show appearance by Paula a few weeks ago where she bashed Ryan including comments on the rumors of the romance with Ryan and Teri Hatcher. The whole time I was thinking that she was being really mean for the most part about Ryan. I’m not sure what is going on there if anything. They can’t seem to agree on whether they are mad at each other or not but they sure aren’t speaking very much. Here is another question. Where is the American Idol season 5 CD? I’ve heard no talk of a CD on the shows so far. They always release a CD with the finalists on it. One thing is for sure, it is go time if they’re going to do it. They did announce that the American Idol tour will once again be happening this summer. I watched the TV Guide Channel’s Idol Tonight for the first time as far as watching it all the way through. It’s a Tuesday pre-Idol show where they are live and talk to fans. It is hosted by season 2’s Kimberly Caldwell and Rosanna Tavarez who is from the TV show Popstars. Wow, I had no clue that was where Rosanna came from until the beginning of Idol Tonight. I just thought she was an entertainment person that moved her way up and her big debut was on Ryan Seacrest’s talk show a couple of years ago. So, I learned something there. Anyway, also on the show was Mandisa and season 3’s Leah Labelle. It was a fun show and I really enjoy the Idol trivia. Do they do that every week? They pick out a fan and give them cardboard heads of two different Idol contestants from years past and ask them questions on which person the answer is to. I recommend checking it out if you’re an Idol fan. I wouldn’t call it a must see show but it is fun to watch. It airs at 6pm on Tuesday nights on the TV Guide Channel.
I’m not sure if CBS got the memo or not. Well, obviously they didn’t. In the “CBS learned nothing from the Grammy Awards” news of the week, CBS has scheduled the Country Music Association Awards to go head to head with American Idol. This isn’t your typical Idol show either. Idol that night will be the finale week performance night. Yep, the final two will perform the night of the CMA Awards. You might remember earlier this year that Idol destroyed the Grammy Awards that were also on CBS.
Gilmore Girls’ creators Amy Sherman-Palladino and Dan Palladino are leaving the show after this season. The Palladino’s released this statement last week, “Despite our best efforts to return and ensure the future of `Gilmore Girls’ for years to come, we were unable to reach an agreement with the studio and are therefore leaving when our contracts expire at the end of the season”. Dave Rosenthal who is a writer and producer is expected to take over for the show next season. There was talk a few months ago that the Palladino’s were considering leaving the show and were preparing to leave it in the hands of someone else. Amy said that she thought the show could easily go on for several more years. Warner Brothers released this statement, “We want to thank Amy for creating and nurturing this wonderful series for the past six years and giving us one of the most memorable mother-daughter relationships in television history”. I also just read an interview with the Palladino’s that paints a whole new picture on this thing. They basically got tired of hearing “one more year” from the studio. They wanted to have a couple of years instead of worrying about things every year. The studio wouldn’t give it to them. There are other factors that went into it too. I HIGHLY recommend reading this interview if you are a Gilmore fan. There is a spoiler in the interview so I warn you of that. That annoyed me when I read that spoiler!! Ugh!!! Go to this link:

Besides the spoiler, I know that I was very mad after reading this interview for how they just kind of got tossed out. Wow. That is about all I could say after reading it. Alexis Bledel and Lauren Graham are both signed on for next year but there is talk that next season could be the last. What a bummer it would be if it is the last season cause this is one great show!! Can I please have a year where there isn’t some kind of drama going on with one of my favorite shows? Ugh again!!!!
I finally got caught up on My Name Is Earl this weekend. I think I watched 8 or 9 episodes. There were a lot of good episodes in there. One of them was based around Y2K. I can’t believe no one else thought of doing something like this. They flashback to the gang at New Year’s 2000 where they are discussing how the Y2K problem is going to shut down all these computers and shut down the world. They decide that they are going to loot on New Year’s Day. The power goes out right at midnight which they think is the computer problem. It turns out that the house they were at didn’t have the power bill paid and it was shut off at midnight January 1st. They also start hearing all these explosions which they think is armageddon but turns out to be their neighbors shooting off fireworks which the neighbors do every year. The gang just didn’t know that cause they were always passed out from drinking by 9pm. They get out and around on New Year’s and there is no one anywhere. They come to the theory that the computers have all turned on humans and ended mankind which makes them think that they are the only survivors. The truth is that the town is all at the New Year’s parade which they never knew anything about happening every year cause they were always still passed out from drinking the night before. They go to the local store and end up moving in there cause they think they are the only people. It is a very funny episode!!
That Celebrity Cooking show on NBC sure didn’t last long. It did really bad ratings which caused NBC to pull the last two episodes. They did decide to air them on Saturday night instead of the original plan which was to put it on NBC.com to watch on there.
Things picked up with the love triangle on How I Met Your Mother with Ted, Robin, and Victoria. If you didn’t know, Victoria had moved overseas to go to school which led her and Ted to doing long distance dating. Ted ended up being invited over to Robin’s by her which was very late at night. All the friends tried to talk him out of going and accidentally spilled the beans that Robin has fallen for him. Ted has been wild about Robin since he met her. He ends up showing up and tells Robin that he broke up with Victoria. Only thing was that he hadn’t done it but planned on it especially after finding out that Robin was falling for him. Later, Robin answers Ted’s phone which she thought was hers due to their phones looking identical. She finds out that Victoria and him hadn’t broken up. They did after that so now Ted doesn’t have Victoria and his potential with Robin just went way down. The name of the episode and underlying story of the episode “nothing good ever happens after 2am”. This was the group’s theory in life and Robin invited him over after 2am. Very good episode. I haven’t watched it yet.
Is 7th Heaven possibly not done after all? That is what an article said that I read earlier in the week. The talk is that the CW Network hasn’t really decided yet on what to do with 7th Heaven regardless of the upcoming series finale. They are toying with the idea of bringing it back but it just depends on how much they like some of these new shows and how many they add to the schedule.
I was listening to 90’s Radio the other day and does anyone else find it funny how that song “Baby Got Back” is played everywhere now and it doesn’t matter what time of day it is? This song was released in 1992 and I’ll never forget the uproar that it caused whether it was the song or video. MTV was forced to keep the video from airing till after 11:00 or something like that. The song was banned from radio and now it is played on anything and everything with no question. I guess it just a sign of how our society has changed since 1992.
The Cartoon Network is taking some heat for airing something besides cartoons. The network recently aired a live action movie and has now added Saved By The Bell to their lineup. They are giving the show a 2 week run to see how well it does. I love Saved By The Bell but I kind of gave a confused reaction when I saw the commercial for it being added to the lineup. It’s a strange addition and we’ll see how it plays out.
