America, we have a problem!! If you heard a sound that sounded like a thud around 8:28pm last night, it was the sound of the jaws of Idol watchers around the country hitting the floor. Chris Daughtry was voted off American Idol last night. He was the favorite to win the whole thing. I had also been picking him in the last couple of weeks to win it. It was a shocking moment and was met with this shock of silence from most of the audience. It wasn’t the Constantine near riot reaction from last season but this was such a shocker that everyone was just left stunned not able to react. My reaction was the same where I just couldn’t believe it and my jaw dropped Later in the night, I had this flashback moment thinking did that just happen tonight??!! To top it off, the bottom two last night were Chris and Katharine McPhee. The final three are Katharine, Taylor Hicks, and Elliott Yamin. Unreal. The rest of this season just lost a lot of punch with Chris being gone now. Chris has been the frontrunner to win for several weeks and now people seem to think that Taylor is the one to win now. Kimberly Caldwell was on MSNBC last night talking about Chris being voted off and Chris was her pick to win too. She said she had done interviews all day and not once did she say Chris would be voted off tonight when giving predictions. No one saw it coming and this competition is weaker because of him being gone. His reaction was pure shock too as was Katharine’s. Katharine had a rough week and you could tell on the look on her face that she thought she was gone when the final two was revealed. I have been voting for Chris and Katharine so it looks like I am throwing all my support behind Katharine now. No offense to either but I’m just not really into Elliott or Taylor. The contestants sang Elvis Presley songs this week. Taylor and Elliott did step up this week. I thought Elliott did have his best performance ever on the show. I wasn’t crazy about his first performance but liked his second one. Chris was obviously having a solid week singing “Suspicious Minds” and “Little Less Conversation”. Katharine was up and down but struggled for the most part with Elvis songs. I thought the second song was a good pick for her. Hopefully, she can step it up next week and ride into the finale. Ok, so Paula Abdul has got to settle down. Every time someone doesn’t agree with her, she snaps. Simon told her to “shut up” this week. The crowd got a laugh out of it. Just a shocking, shocking week on American Idol this week!!
Next week is the week that all the networks will announce their fall schedules. We’ll find out what shows survive and which ones are done. Many eyes will be on the CW Network to see which shows from the WB and UPN make their way over to the new unified network. I also call this annual week “make Brad mad week”.
Survivor has its last two episodes of the season tonight and the three hour finale is on Sunday. The final four are Terry, Aras, Danielle, and Cirie. Last week saw Shane get blindsided when he was voted off. His exit was pretty good where he told everyone that he was going to be eating in a matter of minutes. Terry has won every individual immunity and hasn’t even had to use the hidden immunity idol. The alliance has been quickly turning on each other and blindsiding each other with Courtney and then Shane being voted off. The preview for tonight shows Danielle saying that she is ready to align with Terry. Can someone explain to me what her strategy is to win this million dollars? Danielle has been telling Terry on several occasions that she is with him and then votes with her alliance. Terry has had it with her too. I think Danielle is the perfect person to take to the final two. She has been criticized by many for not doing enough around camp and now her own tribe on the jury doesn’t like her either as she turned on them. Again I ask, what is her plan to win??!! I think Terry wins this whole thing. I’m not sure that Cirie could win against him as I know Shane is furious with her over his being voted off. I’m not sure the alliance will vote for their own at this point with how things have went down. That is why I think Terry could somehow pull this win off. The only exception is Aras as I think he could win it but he’ll have to win an immunity challenge to stay in it.
The Amazing Race two hour finale is next week. We are down to BJ & Tyler, Eric & Jeremy, and Ray & Yolanda. Monica and Joseph were eliminated last night. It should be a strong finale. The only team that I don’t want to see win are Eric & Jeremy as I’m not big on a lot of the tactics they’ve pulled this season. Last night’s episode with the teams battling all the monkeys in Thailand was very funny!!
iTunes has more new shows added to their lineup of downloadable shows. Buffy The Vampire Slayer, Firefly, 24, Prison Break, The Shield, and Lost In Space have been added. The episodes are $1.99 a piece.
Regis Philbin will be hosting the new Simon Cowell produced show “America’s Got Talent”. It will air on NBC twice a week this summer. It will be a competition that will involve singers, comedians, and dancers.
Gilmore Girls wrapped up their season this week with it being the final episode written by the Palidino’s and they went out with a bang getting their dream lineup of singers all on the show. The story was that the town singer that performs on street corners had gotten to perform on a big headlining tour. So, now everyone in the world that can sing shows up in Stars Hollow trying to get discovered. The town square was crammed with all these singers. It was funny. We got left with the cliffhanger of Lorelei ending up with Christopher at the end of the episode after giving Luke an ultimatum of getting married right then. The show had a really kind of final feel to it with knowing that Paladino’s were done after this episode in writing the show. It was sad really. I just hope that the show will be strong next year with the new writers.
The 7th Heaven finale this week drew 7.2 million viewers which is 2 million more than its average for the season. It was the highest rated performance by a show in a long time on the WB beating the season premiere of Gilmore Girls which did have the honor.
Fans of Veronica Mars bought and paid for an airplane to fly over the home of the new CW Network with a banner saying to renew Veronica Mars. I love fan campaigns. They often do work. Just ask Roswell fans as campaigns got the show two more seasons. I participated in that one. Also, to follow up on something from last week, the date for the second season DVD release of Veronica Mars has been moved back a week to August 22nd.
There is early talk that Reba might be done and won’t be on the new CW Network. The show aired its season finale last week but that also might have been the last episode period.
Carrie Underwood graduated from Northeastern State University in Oklahoma last week. She graduated magna cum laude and received a Bachelor of Arts degree. Something tells me that she is going to do just fine with the field that she is currently in.
The opening weekend of Mission Impossible 3’s box office money was below expectations. The movie opened with 48 million dollars but opened lower than the previous Mission Impossible movies. Many are wondering if Tom Cruise’s antics of late have hurt his drawing power. I know it has with me. I’m tired of all the Tom Cruise media coverage and all so I really don’t have much desire to watch any of his movies after hearing about him in the media all day. As far as worldwide debut, the movie drew 118 million dollars which is higher than the 115 million dollars that MI2 drew.
