If you didn’t know, Comcast here locally is now offering On Demand programming. I have gotten to check it out and thought that I’d share some thoughts on it. My obvious first thing that I was looking for and have been for 2 years now since WWE launched this is the WWE 24/7 On Demand service. WWE has opened up their video library including video libraries of former competitors that they have bought in recent years. They are showing stuff from all eras and it is available to watch any time. I am loving that and have lost a lot of sleep watching that stuff!! There is PLENTY more to watch though when it comes to On Demand. I’m talking movies, TV shows, music videos, video game stuff, and a lot more. Here are some of the various things that you will find on there. Here are some of the networks that have programming available: A&E, TLC, G4, Sci-Fi, VH1, MTV, BET, TNT, Discovery, Food Network, Style, Animal Planet, Nickelodeon, and many more. CBS offers programming such as Survivor, NCIS, CSI, CSI: NY, CSI: Miami, Jericho, and Numbers. You will find previous episodes of those shows On Demand with some as far back as 4 weeks of episodes. There is also something called Tube Time which features episodes of classic shows such as One Day At A Time, Charlie’s Angels, Silver Spoons, Soap, and Carson’s Classics which is classic moments of Johnny Carson. Lots of sports stuff on there too including stuff from the NFL, Nascar, and college football. It looked to me like CSS is offering possibly full games from recent weeks of SEC and ACC football. Not sure though as I just looked at program lengths. Exercise person? Plenty of exercise programs for you. One thing I really like is the music video area. There are several music videos in all different kinds of music available to download. Spent quite a bit of time in that area. Movie person? There are movies available to buy but also movies available for free. You just have to look around to see which are free and which are to buy. Pretty good movies available for free including Dirty Dancing for one. Lots of horror movies if any of you are into that. HBO, Starz, Encore, and others have spots on there and if you are a subscriber to the movie networks, you have the On Demand library of those available to you. HBO’s looks really strong as that was the only one that I kind of looked at. Cartoon Network has a big section on there with wide ranging programming. A ton of Adult Swim stuff on there that I’ll have to check out. I’m really impressed with the On Demand so far. This could be something that really gets cable back in the game in their war with satellite. Satellite has been trying to find a way to do On Demand type stuff but has yet to find a way. If you have the capability of On Demand, give it a shot cause I think you’ll really like it.
Really good episode of Veronica Mars this week. The episode started with Veronica at a Halloween gambling bash. The party is broken up when it is robbed by two people in masks. They wanted money and jewelry from everyone which meant that Veronica lost the necklace that was given to her by Lilly, her best friend that was murdered years ago. Veronica goes on a quest to find out who the robbers were. Veronica also worked on trying to figure out who is behind the rapes at the college. She did find a picture with Claire and a guy that was assumed to be the guy who raped her. When Veronica found out the guy’s name and went to his house at the end of the episode, it was revealed that the guy in the picture was Claire’s boyfriend. Hmm. I also enjoyed the other storyline that went on involving Keith where he was trying to help to get a biological father to help donate bone marrow to the father’s dying son. The scene with Veronica talking to the theatre department was very funny as the stage had gotten covered in Pam where they couldn’t step on it. Why was it covered in Pam? They scheduled their opening night on the same night as the film department’s film festival. So the film people got revenge. The theater people said that they couldn’t walk out on to the stage without falling down. Veronica replies “maybe this is their way of saying break a leg”. After getting a dirty look, she walks off saying “Thank you. Good night. Here all week. Try the veal and…..scene.” Very funny!! There were several funny lines by Veronica all night.
Bob Barker announced this week that he will be retiring as host of The Price Is Right. He has been hosting it for 35 years. He will be retiring in June when his current contract expires.
The CW will bring back Reba on Sunday, November 19th with back to back episodes that night. Maybe this will also help out 7th Heaven some as viewership for that show is down about a million viewers since they
moved it to Sunday night. What do you expect when you move a show from its Monday night timeslot for the first time EVER? The comedies that were moved seem to be doing better on Monday nights than they were on Sundays.
I mentioned last week that The Hogan Family was back. Well, it’s gone again as ABC Family has once again shuffled its lineup.
I noticed the other night that GSN is now airing the season of The Amazing Race that featured Chip and Kim, Brandon and Nicole, and Charla and Mirna among others. I could watch that season over again for sure. One of my favorite seasons.
I just want to brag a little about the Chicago Bulls on opening night. The Bulls defeated the defending NBA champion Miami Heat in Miami by 42 points. Worst defeat ever for a defending champion on opening night. I think the previous record was something like 18 points back in the 80’s. Go Bulls!!
The 20th anniversary edition DVD of Transformers The Movie hits stores next week. I’ve read an early review of it and if anything this release sounds like it is going to be a lot better than the previous releases of the movie. As far as how the picture looks of the movie, I’ve seen side by side comparisons to the other DVD releases and this new edition does look like the best of the three. I seem pretty satisfied with what I’ve read so far about it. I’ll review this when I get it watched.
With the On Demand stuff, I got into the G4 area. They have a couple of previews up about a couple of new Nintendo Wii titles. Well, they might have had more but I was looking at the classic titles that I knew of. First up, Metroid. The new Metroid does look very cool but it has that first person type look. I’ve never been really crazy about that view. It does look really good looks wise. The next one that I saw was the new Zelda game. This looked really good. It was explained that the new Wii controller has a speaker in it. This is used in the Zelda game as for example, when you shoot an arrow you will hear the sound of pulling the bow back on the controller speaker. As you shoot the arrow, the sound will trail off and finish at the TV speakers with the impact. Wow. That is very cool. I liked what I saw and heard about Zelda. That should be a fun game. If you want to see what the opening of the new Zelda game looks like, go here.
If you’re an American Idol fan, Kellie Pickler’s new CD is now in stores. I have to say that her first single is really catchy.
The Regis and Kelly Halloween show was once again good this year. It is good every year. The opening segment saw them do something that they have done before but I thought it was funnier the second time
around. Regis and Kelly dressed up as each other and they had each others’ personality down big time. Cracked me up.
