Gilmore update as there were lots of happenings this week. Lorelei and Christopher took a trip to Paris and the TV Guide spoiler from weeks ago was revealed and the two got married there. The previews show Rory not too happy with being left out of this news. The previews also teased a fight between Luke and Christopher. Rory’s time as the editor in chief of the newspaper has come to an end and she kind of has a slight meltdown seeing graduation approaching knowing that the unknown after college is not far off. Lane is not only having a baby but she is having twins. Her mom wanted her and her husband to move in with her but they wanted to stay in their own home to be parents. Well, that didn’t work out totally as it looks like Lane’s mom is moving in with them. That could be funny.
Good episode of Veronica Mars this week. I know I say that every week but it is true. Every episode has been good. This week’s episode guest starred Amanda Walsh of Much Music VJ fame. She is now acting and was my favorite VJ on Much Music along with Rick. I could vent on how mad I was when we lost Much Music on DirecTV only to be replaced by Fuse but why bother? Anyway, good to see Amanda again and she did good in her role. Her boyfriend had disappeared and signs were pointing to the fact that he had been seeing another girl. It didn’t turn out that way though as he had been stumbling around drunk and lost. Keith and Harmony continued their romance but Keith stopped it after seeing Veronica’s reaction to him dating a married woman even though she was about to divorce. Veronica told him that she had such little faith in anything anymore but that she had one thing that she had faith in up to that point meaning Keith. That really hit home for him. Mercer was cleared with the alibi as it turned out that he and Logan had been out of town the night of the rapes. Veronica was finally told the alibi but ended up very disappointed in Logan. At the end of the episode, Veronica had been drugged presumably by the rapist. She was eating on campus and found a hair in it as she was about to sit down She went to get it replaced but left her drink on the table so I’m assuming that something was put in her drink. She walked to the car and ended up passing out. Logan showed up and noticed her car alarm going off. He found her on the ground with some of her hair cut off. I kept looking at the clock in the episode realizing we were getting a cliffhanger ending. It looks like next week will be Veronica’s meltdown in dealing with the rapist.
A lot of eyes are going to be on the video game battle this week. This week sees the anticipated debut of both the Playstation 3 and the Nintendo Wii. PS3 goes on sale tomorrow and the Wii will go on sale on Sunday. People are already lined up all over the country and some have been for a while now. There are supposed to be around 400,000 PS3’s available on the initial launch. Ebay has even went as far as to make rules for selling of both the PS3 and Wii on their site. You have to have a feedback rating of over 90 percent but also have to have feedback from at least 50 other separate buyers to sell one and can only sell one PS3 as a presale. You also have to post a picture of the receipt to prove that the seller is guaranteed to have one to sell. This is to cut back on people that might make a presale auction and then end up not getting one to sell. You also have a certain amount of time that you have to send it out. Ebay is trying to cut into the fraud sells. PS3 has already launched in Japan and a survey was done of 3,500 stores saying that 88,400 has already been sold in two days. Japan was said to get an initial launch of 100,000 PS3’s but the number appears to be closer to 90,000 so according to the survey, most are gone. Nintendo on the other hand was said to be having 400,000 Wii systems available for the Japan launch. Nintendo is kind of staying quiet of how many are going to be available in the U.S. but are anticipating more Wii’s being available than PS3. There is already a reported glitch with the PS3 as it is supposed to play all old Playstation games but some aren’t playing. There are going to be online updates to help the situation but it is likely that the problem might not be fixed totally. I think the pricing will be a very important factor as the Wii is a ton cheaper than the PS3. Many Playstation fans have been turned off by the high price of the PS3 which has the higher of two versions going for $599 while Wii is priced at $250. PS3 does have the advantage of being a high definition DVD player which is a major cause of the high price but it is yet to be seen if that will matter to video game fans or not. Playstation has had the video game battle lead for a while now but it is extremely likely that Nintendo could be poised to take that lead back. We’ll have to wait and see.
Finally, a new season of Seinfeld is coming to DVD. This Tuesday will see season 7 released. This is a show that I still watch all the time despite how many times I’ve seen the episodes. I actually watched an episode last night. I am looking over some of the leaked sale ads for next week and it appears that Circuit City is doing a deal where they are offering seasons 1-6 at $14.99 each. Hot price on those sets. Cheapest that they’ve ever been. Check out your Circuit City ad this weekend to make sure of the sale details. Looks like Best Buy is going to be much higher than Circuit City price wise
Survivor has really gotten good this season. I thought it started a little slow but things picked up quickly. Last week’s episode saw Jeff Probst offer everyone a chance to mutiny. Anyone could jump tribes if they wanted to. Candice jumped out at the last second and took the offer. Then, Jonathan, who has felt he has an alliance with Candice, followed her. Wow, what a gamble. When it comes to a merge, they could be in real trouble. Not only are they outsiders with their new tribe but now their old tribe feels betrayed. I think the only way you should take that gamble is if you know you are the next gone. I’m sure Candice wasn’t at that point. Jonathan? Probably made more sense for him to jump but the only reason he jumped tribes was because Candice did. One thing is for sure is that Ozzy is in the tough position. He’s very strong and people see that. It’s tough to be in that position cause people are either going to keep you around to win challenges and get food cause you are strong or they’ll vote you cause you are too strong. Tough spot to be in.
Good news for Laguna Beach fans. The first season of the L.C. spinoff show, The Hills, will be out on DVD on February 13th.
The first season of Sabrina The Teenage Witch is getting a DVD release on March 6th which has 24 episodes from that season. It looks like season two will follow soon after that.
I read a good article this week in the newspaper this week where frustrations of watching TV were discussed. Some of the major frustrations that were discussed were networks hyping shows all summer trying to get you to watch. The writer compared it to a blind date where they try to get you committed to watching a new show and then when you get committed to it, the networks take it off cause of ratings without a goodbye, showing the rest of the episodes, and leaving you hanging on what might have happened. Yep, I’ll take this opportunity to say example: Reunion. I wonder if that is why new shows are struggling somewhat this season cause people don’t want to get involved in it only to see it cancelled. That is one theory anyway. Another thing discussed was the promos that jump all over the screen while you’re watching a show. The writer said how they would be wrapped up into a show like House where there is a big dramatic thing happening and suddenly Bart Simpson comes flying across the screen as a promo for The Simpsons. Yeah, I’m not a fan of those either especially the ones that make noise and cover the dialogue. Another one was based on programming scheduling. This is where a show will run long and go till say 9:02 and then TIVO people all over the place are missing part of the show. Those were some of the points and I really enjoyed the article. Lots of good points.
Emmitt Smith was the winner of this season’s Dancing With The Stars. I didn’t watch any of the season at all and just haven’t been able to get into the show but I know a lot of people love this show. The ratings and feedback show that!! The ratings were huge for the finale as the show had the highest rating of any show this TV season. ABC is considering putting the next season of Dancing With The Stars that begins in the spring head to head with American Idol. Ouch, not sure about that idea for ABC. I’d stay away from Idol.
TV Guide has a sneak preview of an upcoming episode of How I Met Your Mother where it will be revealed that Robin was a pop star at one time in her life as her music video is found on the internet. That could be a very fun episode!! If you haven’t seen this show yet, the first season comes out on DVD this Tuesday and I highly recommend it. It looks like Circuit City is offering an exclusive bonus disc if you buy the DVD set there.
