Movie review for this week, John Tucker Must Die. John Tucker is the most popular guy in school and the basketball team superstar. He is seemingly able to get people to follow him on anything he desires whether it is style or attitude. The movie starts introducing us to Kate played by Brittany Snow from American Dreams (Yay) who is the new girl in school. She’s never been really popular and just does her own thing. She works as a waitress and notices John Tucker bringing in a new girl every night to the restaurant. Three different ones actually. How do the girls not know that he is seeing other girls? Well, he tells them that their relationship has to be kept secret cause he isn’t supposed to date during basketball season. Each girl is from a different high school clique so the girls don’t socialize with each other. All this finally gets revealed with help from Kate. The girls decide to get even with John Tucker and teach him that he can’t treat girls like he does. The decision is made to make Kate the girl that will win John over but then they will destroy him when he least expects it. The questions are what do the girls have planned and will Kate be able to hold up to his charm as well? I liked this movie. Just a fun movie to watch with a fun storyline of watching the girls trying to get even. This movie had a lot of things in it that reminded me of 10 Things I Hate About You. The movie runs just barely under an hour and a half.
I talked last week about watching the first episode of My Boys on TBS. I’ve watched more episodes and I officially really like this show. The show is narrated by PJ who is the lead female in the show. She is a sportswriter who has a group of male best friends that she has known for several years. I love the comparison of sports to dating with her narration. She looks at all of her friends as a team and they are her teammates. She points out in one episode that it’s not near as enjoyable when things happen to you when your overall team morale is down. One comparison was when she was dating this guy that she thought was great. Most of her friends however were having horrible luck at dating (a couple of them although are in relationships). She was suddenly not hanging around the group as much and they were hurt by it. She compared it to a baseball player being called up to the major leagues but you can’t enjoy it cause you see your teammates still stuck in the same place and want them to have the same thing. Only problem with the guy she was dating was that he didn’t really want to hang around with her friends so much. He and the friends got along but just never really hit it off. This is really a clever young dating show!! TBS is getting good ratings from the show and has ordered nine more episodes that are going to air in the summer.
Good sign for Apple’s success with iTunes as the site was slowed down big time on Christmas day and on Tuesday due to too much traffic on the site. Customers with gift cards and new iPods were looking at downloading some music and overwhelmed the site. Sounds like iTunes is doing just fine.
The name for the final Harry Potter book has been revealed. It is Harry Potter And The Deathly Hollows. Author J.K. Rowling had this to say about the progress of the book as it is still being worked on: “I’m now writing scenes that have been planned, in some cases, for a dozen years or even more. I don’t think anyone who has not been in a similar situation can possibly know how this feels: I am alternately elated and overwrought. I both want, and don’t want, to finish this book (don’t worry, I will.)”
A signed “Meet The Beatles” album signed by all four Beatles was sold for around $115,000. The album was sold in an auction by George Harrison’s sister. This is reportedly the highest selling price ever for an auctioned signed Beatles album.
A report has come out about the comparison of VCR’s and DVD players. A new study has 81.2% of homes having a DVD player compared to 79.2% of homes having VCR’s. In 1999, 6.7% of homes had a DVD player while 88.6% of homes had a VCR.
