Spring is in the air. No, I’m not breaking into song. This week, I’ve got news on the Veronica Mars campaign, more great news for Buffy/Angel fans, and great news too for fans of Whedon’s Firefly/Serenity series. Plus, American Idol, Harry Potter, and more.
Veronica Mars is big time up in the air right now on what will happen beyond this season. Kristin over at E Online originally reported that the show had been canceled but then talked to creator Rob Thomas who told her that they had not been canceled and had heard nothing about it. She is reporting that if the show does stick around for a season four that the show could see some changes. Other sites are also picking up the same story including TV Guide. The CW representative for Veronica Mars said that a decision is not going to be made until May 17th at the upfronts. Here is what is being talked about. Rob Thomas is filming a trailer to present to the CW as an alternative idea that would see things speed up four years ahead with Veronica at the FBI Academy. It is unclear on which characters would still be a part of the show at that point besides obviously Kristen Bell. The CW has yet to decide on what to do with the show but if they pick it up, they’ll be able to pick between the current format and time of the show or to go with the alternative of seeing the show move ahead four years. Hmm, not sure what to think about this but I know that I want the show to stick around. There are a ton of characters that would be greatly missed if they don’t keep them involved. This is one of the problems when dealing with networks is that they often try to change things up that are working and aren’t broken such as the fan criticism of the network pushing for stand alone episodes. Here is what Kristin had to post about the possibility of Veronica not being around anymore, And pardon me while I hop on my soapbox and advise the CW: Canceling Veronica Mars would be a mistake of epic proportions. It is by far the best thing going on the Green Net and one of the most addictive, smart, funny and well-written series ever to air. The fans would not take its demise lightly.
(P.S. That Pussycat show makes me want to gouge out my eyes.)
Now, VM fans unite! Comment away below for the love of good TV!†
Fan campaigns are underway to help save the show. Also, Kristin is about to start her annual Save Our Show campaign where she picks various shows that are in trouble of not being renewed and lets fans vote for the one that they can’t do without. When a winner is chosen, Kristin writes a letter to the network announcing the winner and makes a plea. I have no doubt that she’ll take great pleasure in the possibility of writing a pro-Veronica Mars letter. As far as campaigns and what you can do, head over to: http://www.saveveronicamars.tv/ They are coming up with campaigns. If you’d like to email the CW and support the show, email: feedback@cwtv.com
With this and the talk of Gilmore not returning next season, I may become very harsh to The CW. See example: NBC and American Dreams. Yep, still bitter. The CW has tried a few new series with very few taking off. Why do you want to get rid of the shows that have a loyal fan base? CW already made a lot of enemies of fans of Everwood that are furious over that show not being brought over to the CW. Ausiello at TV Guide was asked what thought was going to happen and he has it mostly split with either it being cancelled or that it will get the new storyline four years into the future with only leaving 5% of it staying the way it is. Veronica fans, get to work!! It’s been a couple of years since I’ve gotten to promote a fan campaign as the last was the AMAZING Save Angel campaign that included fans renting a truck and putting the Save Angel logo on the side of it. They then parked it various Angel related locations including right outside the WB’s doors. It was great stuff!! I’ve actually got a picture of that somewhere saved so if you want to see that great picture, let me know and I’ll send it to you. Let’s do our best to save this great show Veronica fans!!
This also may be a sign of at least changes coming to Veronica Mars as Julie Gonzalo, who plays Parker, has signed on to star in an ABC pilot.
I’ll say one thing and that is that the new Buffy season 8 comic book is very hard to track down!! Here locally they got their shipment and the shipment is already sold out. In fact, a second printing of the first issue is already underway as Dark Horse had this statement on their site: Following the book’s release yesterday, Dark Horse will be going back to print on the much anticipated first issue of Buffy: Season 8. With high profile press coverage, buzz among fans, and excitement from direct market retailers, orders exceeded the initial printing of over 100,000 copies! My advice to any of you that are looking for these comics, preorder. If you have a comic book store near you, ask if you can do a preorder on each issue. That is the lesson that I am learning from all of this. I ordered my issue one and it should be here either very late this week or early next week.
It’s a great time to be a Buffy/Angel fan and if you liked the last news about season 8 of Buffy in comic form, you’re going to like this news too. IDW talked over the weekend that they are going to be doing comics of Angel that will pick up where season five left off. Joss will be co-writing it and the comic will be season six of the show. This is great news!!!!!!!!! Joss had this comment about it in a recent interview: I am talking to Brian Lynch who wrote Spike: Asylum about doing a sort of Season Six of Angel – a canon post-Angel story. I was really impressed with Asylum. Brian really got the humour and the rhythms and told a story really well. I thought, “If they can do this, why shouldn’t they?” It would be on a separate plane from Buffy, but having said that we are planning on having Spike and Angel appear in the BtVS arc. As far as the separate stories goes, we will resolve how they can both be going on. It might end up a little bit too much like X-Men, who are doing different things in every comic, but hopefully we will work out more continuity than that. I’m not going to make it so that you have to read both books from both companies. I don’t think it’s fair to people and I don’t think it’s fair in a single company. I hate it when a Spider-Man arc finishes in Iron Man. I get off! There will be no Buffy “Civil War”! Well, maybe.
I’ll keep you updated.

American Idol this week saw the show do a 60’s week. All the contestants sang 60’s songs and this was a very entertaining week. Peter Noone and Lulu did an amazing job with the singers this week. They brought out some strong performances out of some that have just been middle of the road so far. Bottom two this week were Stephanie Edwards and Chris Richardson. Going home was Stephanie. Wow, I did not expect that. It’s a shame cause she had a really good voice. Other thoughts from the week’s shows are that Jordin Sparks really shined this week. She was amazing and could make a strong run at winning this season. My early picks for final two are Blake Lewis and Melinda Doolittle. I also really like that song “Home” by Daughtry that is this season’s farewell song.
I got to check out the CBS online streaming of the NCAA tourney games last week. I like it and the games look good especially for live streaming. Only problem that I saw with it and that made no sense was that they blackout local games. Umm?? Didn’t they promote this mostly as “are you at work and can’t watch the games?” If you’re watching online, there is a pretty good chance that you can’t get to a TV. That just didn’t make much sense to me especially when the Kansas game was blacked out and not even airing here. Anyway, you can watch the games in full screen if you like. If you leave it small, you can watch the scores on the right side of the screen that stay up to date. Then, you can switch between games or even watch highlights of earlier games. You are also supposed to be able to watch the full version of a game that already ended but it didn’t work at the time. It’s free but I could see them charging next year. Just remember that the Big Brother live feeds were free in the first season and then CBS charged for season two.
So, I’m extremely losing confidence in my Amazing Race picks. Second week in a row where I have picked the right teams but in the wrong order. I had Charla and Mirna being eliminated but they finished first. I had Uchenna and Joyce as being first but finished last. I can’t pick anything right. ha ha. Uchenna and Joyce did not go home this week as it was non-elimination but they will have to finish first to avoid a 30 minute penalty at the next pit stop as they are now marked for elimination. I’m really enjoying this season.
The 2008 Academy Awards have been announced to take place on Sunday, February 24, 2008.
I wasn’t crazy about that new Avril Lavigne song, “Girlfriend”, after listening to the first half of it but I started liking it in the second half of it. Catchy. Looking forward to her new album.
400 episodes of The Simpsons. WOW. That is just amazing and they show no signs of slowing down. This includes the fact that The Simpsons movie is being released this year which I look forward to seeing.
Neil Patrick Harris co-hosting this morning with Kelly Ripa. HILARIOUS!!
There is a RUMOR out there that Seinfeld Season 8 may be released on DVD in June. Stay tuned.
Joss Whedon announced that a special edition of Serenity will be released this summer. The new edition will be two discs. If you haven’t seen Serenity, it is the movie that finishes up the Firefly TV series. Both are very good and if you haven’t seen the TV series, I think you’d still enjoy the movie. Here is what Joss posted about the special edition.
Yes, fanlings, there is going to be a 2 disc ‘Special Edition’ released this summer. You know why? ‘Cause the 1 disc ‘Normal Edition’ has sold so well — so maybe a little self-back-patting is in order for you guys. Way to keep her in the air.
It’s too early to be sure what the Special Edition will contain, but here are some things we’re going for:
NEW KEY ART.
Cast commentary — assuming I can get a decent number of them in one room. They’re very busy people, I’m happy to say.
NEW KEY ART.
The region 4 goodies, obviously.
The Tam Sessions.
KEY NEW ART.
New Yub Yub, and Greedo shoots first. So does that kid outside the trading station, the pilot who destroyed Haven, and Kaylee. And Richard Dreyfuss goes INSIDE the mothership.
KEW RAT YEN.
An alternate ending, if you turn it off early.
Proof of the existence of a benevolent higher power — uh, I mean, new key art.
Mice.
And honestly, what more do you want? Don’t answer that, I already know and it’s unseemly. But I’m pretty excited here. Back to work, -j.
Take my Yub,
Take Yub Yub,
Yub Yub tak the Yub from Meee…dichlorians….
ABC had already renewed a ton of shows for next season. Renewed is Grey’s Anatomy, Lost, Desperate Housewives, Dancing With The Stars, Ugly Betty, Brothers & Sisters, Men In Trees, Boston Legal, Extreme Makeover: Home Edition, The Bachelor, Jimmy Kimmel Live, America’s Funniest Home Videos, Supernanny, and Wife Swap.
Harry Potter, we have a problem. Surprising news this week when reports were out that Emma Watson had decided to turn down a contract for the next two Harry Potter films. She was reportedly offered $3.9 million. Reports had her wanting to do some different projects. Co-star, Rupert Grint, told the News Of The World newspaper, “Emma doesn’t want to do it any more. She’s tired of being known as ‘that girl from Harry Potter’. After that story came out, Warner Brothers released a statement saying “We’re extremely confident that Emma will be back for films six and seven.” 2010 is the year for the release of the last Harry Potter movie which will mean that Emma Watson will be 20 by then. I guess it just depends on who you believe on whether she will be back or not. I know some of you are Harry Potter fans and wanted to pass that info along to you.
Here is a notice to any of you looking to travel to Nashville for any kind of events. The Gaylord Entertainment Center name is no more as it has been changed back to its original name, the Nashville Arena. I got an email about some show updates and saw that the name had changed.
