I’m going to try something different this week with my Idol thoughts. This is a format that I’ve used in The Wrestling List when reviewing shows and people have liked it where I’ll just type up random thoughts as the show goes on. Not sure how it will work here but I just thought I’d try something different with watching the Tuesday show of Idol. Latin night on American Idol with Jennifer Lopez coaching the contestants. Jennifer Lopez meets with the contestants and gives them all a group talk. She seems to be enjoying coaching the contestants. Hey, Micky Dolenz is in the crowd. Gotta love that!! I’m a huge Monkees fan!! First up performing is Melinda Doolittle. Liking the song that she is doing. Never heard this song before actually. Simon said that for the first time so far that he has to finally say that he didn’t like Melinda’s performance. Melinda responds with “well, I’m glad that he finally got to say something bad about me”. Very funny. Uh oh, our local Fox affiliate just had technical difficulties. We just missed a full performance with them being off the air. Who is Idols 02 tonight? I’ll find out later. Technical difficulties are over and it’s time for Idols 03, Chris Richardson. He sings the song, “Smooth”. Judges give him a so-so response. Haley is up next with “Turn The Beat Around”. She is trying with this song but is having trouble staying on key. Ouch, Simon just kind of blasted her on her outfit. Come up here Ryan and bail this girl out as the judges just aren’t into her tonight. Phil Stacey is next and is starstruck by Jennifer Lopez watching him sing. He sings “Maria, Maria”. Randy says that it lacked passion. Paula thought it was good except for that bit of voice cracking at the very end. Simon said that there was no originality in it and says that there isn’t anything of excitement or positive that he can say about the performance. Sixth performer is next which is Jordin Sparks. She is asked if she could pick a theme for next week, what would it be? She picks 80’s music. Ryan asks if she was born in the 80’s. Jordin replies that she was born in 1989. Good grief, I’m old. ha ha. Jordin is breaking out some Gloria Estefan (Rhythm Is Gonna Get Cha). Performance of the night so far for me. Randy really liked it. Paula says that she is authentic and just having a fun time. Simon says that it was an “ok” performance like how he feels about all the other performances of the night. Blake Lewis is next singing “I Need To Know” which was originally done by Marc Anthony. Blake had better do this one well with picking a song of Jennifer’s husband. Blake isn’t doing any kind of original twist on it like he has his previous performances. Pretty good performance. Randy says best song choice of the night. Paula says “very smart performance”. Simon says “best choice of song of the night and best performance of the night”. Sanjaya is next so it looks like the performer during the technical difficulties was LaKisha that I missed. Jennifer says that Sanjaya picked a good song and thought that Simon would be impressed. Not a bad performance from him tonight. Randy says that Sanjaya is one of the smartest contestants that he has ever seen and that it was good. Paula said that it was “smooth and nice”. Simon says he sang it like a 14 year old and “I’m going to hate myself for this but it wasn’t horrible”. Reviewing the performances now with the phone numbers. LaKisha for me just kind of blended in with the others with what I heard of “Conga”. Hmm, standouts for the night are Jordin and Blake for me. Overall, just kind of a “eh” kind of night on American Idol.
Wednesday’s one hour results show. Bottom three this week were Phil Stacey, Haley Scarnato, and Chris Richardson. Sent back to safety was Chris. So, that means that the bottom two were Phil and Haley. Going home this week was Haley Scarnato. Not a real surprise of the bottom three for me this week. Performing on the show were Jennifer Lopez and also Akon. I liked the Ford music video this week. I always think that morphing effect is cool. The big Idol Gives Back special is 2 weeks away. It will be a big charity event featuring many stars. More details are available at Idolgivesback.com. Next week is country week with Martina McBride.
Since it was cold and there wasn’t anything to do outside, it seemed like a perfect weekend to get some stuff watched. I finished season one of Smallville after pulling an 8 episode marathon of season one. I am really enjoying this show and am looking forward to seeing how the story of Clark and Lex plays out. Good cliffhanger at the end of season one with what looked to be a sequel to the movie, Twister. The countryside looked very similar to Twister as did the truck that Lana was driving. Season one was definitely mostly “monster of the week” type episodes while leading to the bigger story. I’m three episodes into season two and the story is picking up big time already. Any chance that I could have all of the seasons watched by the time of the Superman Celebration this year? Yeah, I doubt it too!! I’d like to though so I could avoid any spoilers that I would hear there. I’ll give my season two thoughts when I finish it.
Catching the right flights has been all the key on this season’s Amazing Race. Uchenna and Joyce didn’t even have a chance to compete on Sunday night. The teams set out to purchase their flights. Uchenna and Joyce had a connecting flight but didn’t make it in time to board the plane. They knew that was a gamble but decided to go for it. So, they didn’t get to the destination until the next day. The other teams had all finished by then. Finishing first on this leg of the race was Dustin and Kandice.
I wanted to talk about a show that I’ve recently got hooked on as mom and dad watch it quite a bit and have gotten me into it. This show is Little People, Big World on TLC. This reality show follows a family of little people and we see through their eyes what life is like for them. The whole Roloff family isn’t little though as the mom, dad, and one son are little people. They have two other sons and a daughter that are regular size. Interesting thing is that the two of the sons are twins with one being regular size and the other being little. This is a very entertaining show and the family is extremely likable. The show gives a view of what life if like for them and just shows their everyday life. I highly recommend this show as I have gotten hooked on it big time. New episodes just began airing on Monday nights on TLC but you can catch the show at various times during the week as well.
Andy Richter’s new show, Andy Barker, P.I., has already been pulled from NBC’s schedule. The last two episodes of the show will air this Saturday night on NBC.
WWE’s Stone Cold Steve Austin will be serving as Grand Marshal of this weekend’s Nascar race at Texas Motor Speedway.
I am loving watching these Wonder Years episodes again on ION. I completely forgot that the whole Kevin Arnold/Winnie Cooper/Becky Slater love triangle was in the first season. Hilarious stuff. I always thought Becky’s rampage of brutality was funny when Kevin broke up with her cause he was still in love with Winnie. He broke up with her and said that he wanted to still be friends. She then punched him out. Funny stuff!! The story of Kevin and Winnie was a fun one to follow. And come on, what guy watching the show at that time didn’t have a crush on Winnie Cooper?
The new trend in music purchasing is happening and happening big. It was announced that once again album sales are down. People just aren’t buying albums like they used to. The new trend? Song downloads. No, this isn’t brand new OBVIOUSLY but I’m just saying that online single purchases are skyrocketing. People are for sure willing to pay 99 cents for a song that they really like and make their own CD’s that way instead of buying a full album of an artist.
Anyone wanting a chance to watch the Joss Whedon show, Firefly, here is a good chance for you. The first season is available for $19.99 at Best Buy this week. I really enjoyed this show a lot and if you like Buffy and Angel, I think you’ll like this show as well. The writing style is definitely the same.
I ended up watching a little bit of the Punk’d marathon on Sunday night. It basically depends on what celebrity that it is on whether I will watch it or not.
A sequel to The Mummy is set to be made as this will be The Mummy 3. Variety is reporting that Brendan Fraser has signed on to be in the movie. However, Rachel Weisz will not be returning. Universal is targeting summer of 2008 for the theatre release.

You Tube Video Of The Week: Ok, this guy is now my latest favorite thing on You Tube. I just recently found his videos. Basically, he just rants on various things and sometimes goes on location. I have laughed so hard at some of these clips. I give to you now, Pipistrello.
There is some rough language in this at times so be careful who is around when you watch it.
