Kristin is saying that originally the voting was between Veronica Mars and One Tree Hill (last year’s winner). Veronica pulled ahead with over 40% of the votes and then the Gilmore fans pulled Gilmore Girls
from third place up to first place in the last 24 hours of voting. With the amazing turnout of voting and with how close it was, Kristin is going to let two shows win it this year, Gilmore Girls and Veronica Mars. Great news for fans of both shows. I think this is a good thing to do especially when again I say that Gilmore is an actors decision more than a network decision like Veronica is. Kristin will be writing her annual letter of support and it will go to the CW this year in support of Gilmore Girls and Veronica Mars and she is also going to throw fan comments in there too. Rob Thomas, executive producer of Veronica Mars, had this to say about how the voting turned out, “We’re continually astounded by the fans’ willingness to go grassroots to keep us around. More than ever, the letter-writing, vote-casting, plane-circling efforts of our fans may be just the push we need to make it back on the air.”
Issue one of the new Buffy comic got into the top 10 of comic sales for March finishing at number 9. The article that I read was speculating that this may be the first non-Marvel or DC comic to finish in the top 10 in “many years”. The Buffy comic sold almost 110,000 copies in March. The rest of the top 10 was 1. Captain America #25. 2. Mighty Avengers #1. 3. Amazing Spiderman #539. 4. Civil War Initiative. 5. Darktower Gunslinger Born #2 (of 7). 6. Justice League Of America #6. 7. New Avengers #28. 8. Civil War Confession. 9. Buffy The Vampire Slayer #1. 10. Wolverine #62.
I read the second issue of the new Buffy comic a few days ago. Good issue and we’re still getting a lot of story set up for what is ahead. If you haven’t read this and don’t want spoilers, you may want to come back to this later. Ok, if you’re still reading, the government is continuing their curiosity of what is going on with Buffy and the gang but are content to let Amy be their lead into getting to them. Speaking of Amy, she gets to an asleep Buffy. She tries to finish off Buffy as she sleeps until Xander and the gang arrive. They have protective magic over Buffy while she sleeps so Amy can do nothing. Except, she can put a spell on Buffy that is keeping her asleep and in a nightmare world. The only way to get Buffy out of this? A “true love” kiss. She doesn’t have to be in love with the person that kisses her but as long as the person that kisses her has “true love” for her then she will be awaken. This puts pressure on Xander as he has always had a thing for her. Before anything can be done, the castle is attacked. As Amy looks out the window on the last page of the issue, we see Willow. Looks like we’re about to get a Willow/Amy battle. Other happenings from the issue. The mysterious symbol was shown again but this time it is shown on the body of the General. We also see the debut of Giles in comic form as he is seen training the slayers. Xander talks to Dawn and the question is beginning to be asked on whether Dawn had herself turned into a giant on purpose. She is feeling abandoned by her sister and may have done this to get some attention on her. Another character that we see for the first time in the new comic series is Andrew who is of course comparing their battle strategy to that of Star Wars. Very funny and typical Andrew writing. Where is issue three already? Hurry up and release it. Release date for issue three is said to be May 2nd.
Country week on American Idol. Martina McBride was the coach this week. Jordin Sparks shined again on Tuesday night. She may end up winning this thing before it is all said and done. Really gutsy pick by LaKisha to pick Jesus Take The Wheel to perform on Tuesday night. It is always tough to pick a song of a former Idol winner. Problem with her picking that song is all I am hearing is Carrie Underwood singing it instead of LaKisha. I’m a Carrie fan so I was automatically listening to LaKisha’s performance as a harsher critic and I’m sure others were as well. Phil Stacey won over the judges with his country performance as they were saying that this should be his genre of music. Sanjaya just didn’t do much for me again with his performance nor did Chris . With the judges on Tuesday night, it really felt like Paula was struggling to find some good things to say about some of the performances. Basically, I can just say what I say every week. Liked Jordin. Liked Melinda. Liked Blake although I’m not liking him as much as I did for some reason. The rest just weren’t very exciting for me. Overall, I just feel like this is a boring season for the most part.
Results show of American Idol. I was so happy with Melinda on that results show. If you’ve watched Idol for a while now, you know that they do this to someone every year where they’ll put people in two groups and leave one person. They’ll say that the one person is safe (Melinda) and for the person to pick which group that they think is the safe group. I just kept hoping that she would pull a Bo Bice and not go to either group. What is a Bo Bice? They tried to get him with this in season four and he stood right in the middle of the stage not going to either group. I was literally yelling at Melinda to not let them put her in that position and don’t go anywhere. I was extremely happy to see her sit down right in the middle of the stage and she got a big ovation as she didn’t pick either group. Way to go Melinda!!! I’m glad to say that the only time this trick has worked was in season three and, unless I’m forgetting something, has never worked since. Bottom three was Blake, Sanjaya, and LaKisha. My first thought was, uh oh, they’re going to send Sanjaya back and the bottom two will be Blake and LaKisha. I was wrong. Blake is sent back to safety. Bottom two are Sanjaya and LaKisha. The results of the largest top 7 Idol vote in the show’s history revealed that Sanjaya was voted off and it got a big pop from the live crowd. I felt bad for him cause the reaction was so big. Performing on last night’s show was Martina McBride and also Fergie. How funny was the segment with Ryan talking to Martina and her daughter? Hilarious stuff. Her daughter said that she liked all of the contestants saying that they were all great and Ryan replied “thank you Paula”. Cracked me up. Next week is the Idol Gives Back show where each vote will also be a donation to help underprivileged children here in the U.S. and in Africa. The more votes you cast, the more money that gets donated. Appearing on the shows next week will be Carrie Underwood, Kelly Clarkson, Gwen Stefani, Pink, Il Divo, Keira Knightly, Earth, Wind, and Fire, Hugh Grant, Josh Grobin, Jack Black, Rascal Flatts, Quincy Jones, Annie Lennox, and more. They are also promoting a duet by two of the biggest superstars ever for the first time ever. I don’t know who that is going to be as it will be a surprise but besides the surprise I know what I would love to see. I would LOVE to see Carrie and Kelly on the stage together. How cool would that be??!!!!! I’m begging for it to happen actually. I saw an excellent point posted by a fan on a blog where they asked how we ended up with 4 guys and 3 girls especially with how this season started. It’s no secret that the girls have been better than the guys the whole way. The only two guys that I have found to be entertaining are Blake and Chris Sligh. Sligh has been gone for several weeks now. How did we end up with more girls going home than guys and is that why this season is struggling to the finish line?
Season five Idol contestant, Paris Bennett, made some headlines last week when she said on a radio show that she and other former contestants were voting for Sanjaya every week “to screw the show” and take down American Idol. She also called the show “a joke”. She also had this to say: “We want to see him [Sanjaya] win because it’ll kind of prove that ‘American Idol’ is kind of losing its taste. It kinda isn’t going for talent anymore and more for popularity.”
Again, a flight problem put a team in the back and the team wasn’t able to recover on this past Sunday’s Amazing Race. Danielle and Eric were the last able to get a flight out and finished last on that leg of the race. Good news for them is that it was a non elimination round and they’re still in the race. They will have to finish in first place or they will endure a 30 minute penalty at the end of the next leg of the race. Wow, are Charla & Mirna and Dustin & Kandice ready to hurt each other or what? Things are getting very intense between those two teams. I have to say that I really underestimated Danny and Oswald this year. They have been a really strong team as has Charla and Mirna. I underestimated them too. I was really impressed with Charla climbing that wall while all the fighting was going on around them. This week, another yield will be used in the Race and the previews say that two teams will work out a deal to yield another team. I fully expect Dustin and Kandice to get yielded as payback from Danielle and Eric
Tonight’s Survivor was easily the best episode of the season. Finally, the hidden immunity idol gets some use after three seasons. The two alliances played off of each other with Dreamz playing both sides. He revealed to Earl and Cassandra that Mookie had the immunity idol. Earl and the group put it out there that they were going to vote out Alex. Dreamz got the info back to Mookie and Alex. Mookie gave Alex the immunity idol and Dreamz told Earl and crew. Then, they decided to vote out Mookie knowing he no longer had the idol. The plan changed however as they were unsure if Dreamz was with them so they didn’t tell him of a vote change to Eduardo. Tribal council came and Alex presented the immunity idol. The votes didn’t come his way and instead Eduardo was voted out. I loved finally seeing this thing come into play. Only thing that would have been better was if Mookie had gotten voted off cause he was looking awful arrogant in this episode. Next week’s preview shows that Mookie and Alex will go sneaking in Yau Man’s bag and discover that he has the other immunity idol. Noooooo!!!! I still am begging for someone to find the fake immunity idol and present it at tribal council. It would be one of the best Survivor moments in history.
Possible good news for all of us Gilmore fans MIGHT be on the way. Ausiello is saying over at TVGuide.com that talk at the Gilmore wrap party was that the show is going to get an 8th season but it will be a shortened season instead of a full one. The talk was 13-16 episodes for an 8th season. It also sounds like both girls will be back too if this holds on to be true. We’ll have to wait and see if this is confirmed.
If you haven’t seen How I Met Your Mother, I highly recommend the episode that is going to air on Monday night. The episode is called Slap Bet. If you’re not familiar with the term, a slap bet is a bet between two people on something and the person that is right gets to slap the other person in the face as hard as they can. The bet revolves around a secret in Robin’s past that the gang is trying to figure out. This is a hilarious episode and my favorite of the season!! The episode airs Monday night at 7pm. You won’t be disappointed in checking it out.
The 14th edition of Survivor is headed to China.
So, I am going to make a serious run at trying to get through six seasons of Smallville by June. Think I can do it? I’m halfway through season two right now.
Regis Philbin announced this week that he will be returning to Live With Regis and Kelly on Thursday, April 26th. It will be great to have him back and he is said to be doing really well.
Trademark Properties returns to TV this Saturday night on TLC with their new series. The Real Deal begins on Saturday night at 8pm. Here is some of what was in the email that I got from Trademark regarding the first episode: Its been an eventful year and the crew at Trademark Properties thanks you for your support. After several crazy adventures, many months of filming, and a lot of fun Trademark style, it is finally time for our return – and we are so excited! The first episode takes place in Charleston and finds our team tackling the impossible by investing in a house that’s been on the market for almost a year. We renovate this five bedroom eye-sore (of course in Trademark fashion) and make it a thing of beauty in just five days. But as always, this job comes with a myriad of problems that will keep you wondering how we pull out off!
I’m really looking forward to seeing the Trademark crew back on TV again. I’m happy to say that TLC is promoting this thing big time. I’ve seen a TON of promos for it.
NBC got some very bad ratings news last week. Their overall average rating for last week was the lowest number ever for the network in the regular season recorded by Nielsen. None of NBC’s shows made the top 20 last week and only two made the top 30 which were Deal Or No Deal and ER. NBC averaged 6.8 million viewers for the week. Ouch.
The 2007 NBA Playoffs begin this weekend. Several good first round matchups. Here are how the playoffs are set up. In the east: (1) Detroit vs. (8) Orlando, (2) Cleveland vs. (7) Washington, (3) Toronto vs. (6) New Jersey), (4) Miami vs. (5) Chicago. In the west: (1) Dallas vs. (8) Golden State, (2) Phoenix vs. (7) LA Lakers, (3) San Antonio vs. (6) Denver, (4) Utah vs. (5) Houston. I’m biased so let’s get into my thoughts on my team. ha ha. The Bulls fell from the number two seed to the number five seed in one night. If they had defeated New Jersey last night, they were the two seed and Cleveland would have been the five seed. The Bulls played bad in the game and lost falling to the five seed. I’m very disappointed by that as now instead of the Bulls playing a Gilbert Arenas-less Wizards team and a second round with the winner of the 3-6 matchup, they now have a tough road of the defending champion, Miami Heat, in the first round and a likely showdown with Detroit in the second round. The Bulls had Miami on the ropes last year and I hope they can do the same this year as the Bulls do have something that they didn’t last year against Miami, homecourt advantage. One matchup to keep an eye on in the west is a rematch of last year’s Playoffs between the Lakers and Suns. That was a great series last year. Another matchup to watch is the Toronto/New Jersey series with Vince Carter playing against his old team.

You Tube Video Of The Week: The You Tube Babysitter. This ties to last week’s video. I don’t think there is any language in this from what I remember but watch with caution anyway.

That is it for this week. I’ll be back next week. Same Bat time. Same Bat channel.
