We now can OFFICIALLY hammer the CW. According to the show’s creator, Rob Thomas, the show is done. After weeks of waiting and hoping for the backlash to settle down, the network finally made the official call hoping to make the announcement very quietly. Michael Ausiello over at TV Guide got the email from Rob Thomas. Here is what Thomas had to say in the email: “I’m afraid I have to report that Veronica Mars is officially dead. At least in TV show form. There’s really no way that it can happen now. I’m not sure the CW should’ve given the glimmer of hope. I think Dawn Ostroff genuinely would have liked to have continued on with a version of the show, but there was too much resistance around her. At the end of the day, it would’ve been kinder had the band aid simply been ripped off rather peeled away in than this agonizingly slow manner.” Rob Thomas is talking about continuing the show in another form whether it is a movie but the likelihood appears to be comic book form. Thomas commented on this at a TV festival last week saying “I have some ambition to write a screenplay, see if I can shop that and get it made. And I had a meeting with DC Comics last Monday and they want to do [Season 4] as a comic series.” Again, reports have said for weeks now that the CW has known for a while that they weren’t going to bring it back but were afraid to make the official announcement fearing the backlash. I’ll say this again that this wouldn’t have made me AS mad if they would have announced the cancellation right away but the fact that they dragged this out and strung along the fans just made me even more mad. Believe me when I say that I’m not alone in being mad with how this was handled. The fans launched a last ditch effort in the last week based off of the Jericho campaign which saw TONS of Mars bars being sent to the CW offices. $2,500 has been raised for the campaign. Over 2,000 Mars bars have been bought and 4,800 Snickers Almond Bars are set to be shipped to the CW. Several media outlets have picked up the campaign story including the New York Post. I don’t know if there is any hope at this point but I’m happy to see the fans still fighting. So CW, let’s see what you’ve got going for you. Everwood fans are mad at you. 7th Heaven, ended. Gilmore Girls, ended. Veronica Mars, toyed with and then canceled. Good luck on winning back fans CW cause you’re going to need EVERY bit of it.
There are reports that the exclusive trailer that was shot as a preview of a season four with Veronica Mars in the FBI will get to be seen by fans. There are plans to include it as an extra on the season three DVD set to be released later this year.

Kristin over at E Online got to speak to Lauren Graham and got her comments on the ending of Gilmore Girls. She also asked about what she knew of what the final four words of the series would have been if Amy Palladino had gotten to write it. “People keep asking me about it, and I haven’t spoken to anyone who could actually make it happen. I do wish[Amy S.-P.] hadgotten to be a part of the end because the show was so much Amy’s vision from the beginning, but there were a number of reasons that wasn’t the way it was. But would those four final words have made a difference? I’m not sure.†I think we were at a good place to end, and I think it was a natural ending. I have been very moved by the response from people in just their kindness about the show and sadness about it ending. I really have appreciated that.”
The big TV debate of the week has been the ending of The Sopranos. People are FURIOUS over this thing while others are accepting of how it ended. First though, the ratings were big for the series finale as the show got 11.9 million viewers (on pay TV) which made it the fourth highest rated episode of the series. The highest rated episode was the fourth season opener in 2002. Back to the criticism of the finale, I’ve never watched an episode so I’ll just comment on what I’ve seen from fan reaction. The show ended with Tony and the family all in a restaurant with a suspicious looking guy in there as well. Was the family about to be killed? It won’t be known as the show ended with Tony looking up leaving fans to make their own interpretation of how it was going to end. Kelly Ripa had a good response on Live on Monday when she thought that her receiver had messed up when the show went black. That was the general response nationwide as people thought their cable or satellite had went out. The show’s creator David Chase has answered the criticism saying, “No one was trying to be audacious, honest to God. We did what we thought we had to do. No one was trying to blow people’s minds or thinking, ‘Wow, this’ll (tick) them off. People get the impression that you’re trying to (mess) with them, and it’s not true. You’re trying to entertain them. People keep trying to pin him down on a movie but he doesn’t seem interested right now”. He didn’t rule it out though saying that it would all depend on if he came up with some good ideas for doing one. A lot of the fans that liked the ending are saying “did you want to see the family all killed?” and for it to end that way. One thing is for sure is that fans were really getting nervous as the family all met at the restaurant thinking something bad was about to happen. It really is hard for shows to wrap up and to please everyone. You’re never going to make everyone love how you wrap up a show. Most of you know that I love Seinfeld. It is one of my favorite shows of all time. But…..I did not like the last episode. It is the only episode when watching Seinfeld reruns that I will turn off if I see it on. No offense to the writers at all, I just didn’t like it. I thought Friends ended really well. Angel is a show that had a similar ending to The Sopranos where we were left to decide what happened to them. When watching the Angel finale, I started to think that was what we were going to get when I kept looking at the clock thinking a lot of things are going to have to happen in the next few minutes. I didn’t mind the cliffhanger ending cause in a way it was like they were telling us that Angel and crew are always going to be battling someone. I know several fans were unhappy about it but I didn’t mind it. If you’re a Sopranos fan, I’m sure you have an opinion either way on how it ended. Let me know as I’d like to hear what you thought of it.
Supergirl is coming back. Where will she be going? Destination Smallville. It was announced on Monday that Smallville will be adding Supergirl as a character this season. She will be Clark’s 19 year old cousin that is the daughter of Zor-El, the brother of Clark’s dad Jor-El. Casting is currently underway to decide who will play the role. Executive producer, Al Gough, had these comments on the addition to the show: “One of the joys of creating ‘Smallville’ has been our ability to reinvent and reinterpret classic DC Comics characters. Miles and I believe that Supergirl will give our series the mythic jolt that it needs as we head into our seventh season.”
Speaking of Smallville, it’s wild to get back to normal TV after my whirlwind Smallville marathon. When I get home, my automatic instinct is to think “hey I can get at least four episodes watched tonight”. LOL!! Seriously though, it is really nice to not have to worry about spoilers now wherever I go on the internet.
CBS announced this week that there will be more stuff to watch when it comes to Big Brother 8 this season. The show premieres on July 5th and three episodes will air a week with episodes on Tuesday, Thursday, and Sunday. CBS will once again do the live feeds of the show online where you can pay to watch it. Now, here is the change and this is a cool idea. Big Brother: After Dark will air from 11pm to 2am on Showtime Sho-Too. This will be three hours of the live feeds as they happen and will air during what is considered to be peak hours in the Big Brother house as it will be 9pm to midnight there in LA. Anything goes on this show, well, besides any singing or discussion of people that they don’t have a release to allow to be talked about over the feeds. From what I can tell, this is going to be a show airing every night at this time? I’m not positive but the wording seems to indicate so. The Big Brother talk show, House Calls, is also set to return for another season.
Drew Barrymore is set to be in a new live action Disney dog comedy, South Of The Border. The movie is about a Chihuahua who goes on vacation to Mexico with her owner but gets left behind. Drew will be the voice of the Chihuahua. Many stars will do voiceovers for the dogs in the movie. Other stars reportedly on board for the movie as voices are Andy Garcia, Salma Hayek, George Lopez, Cheech Marin, Paul Rodriguez, Placido Domingo, Edward James Olmos and Eddie “Piolin” Sotelo.
One of the big entertainment topics of the week has been the news that Isaiah Washington will not be back on Grey’s Anatomy next season. ABC has decided not to renew his contract.
Something tells me that the CW isn’t very happy about their new show, Hidden Palms. The network is going to air back to back new episodes of the show leading up to a July 4th finale. They are speeding the show along as it was going to air all summer. Then, the finale airs on a night when most people are out celebrating the holiday. How are the new shows going there for you CW?
America’s Got Talent is picking up where it left off last summer doing very good ratings. Definitely one of the top rated shows of the summer. It might be the highest but I haven’t checked.
The new Fantastic Four movie hits the theatres this weekend in case somehow you haven’t heard about it.
I’m getting excited to see the new Transformers movie. I saw a scene the other day that was a battle scene seeing the Transformers battling on what looked to be a highway ramp. Looked amazing!!
If you were a fan of the Castlevania video game series back in the day, this news will make you happy. A movie is about to be made based on the game. Shooting on the movie will begin in late fall. The script was written by Paul W.S. Anderson and from what I’ve seen, he wrote the Alien vs. Predator movie. Sylvain White has been picked as the director who is coming off the success of Stomp The Yard.
Kelly Clarkson has canceled her summer arena tour. Talk is that ticket sales were not going very well for the tour especially with the tour being in bigger venues. This comment was posted from Kelly on her website about the cancellation. “In the craziness of the music business, performing is what I look forward to doing the most, so it really is disappointing for me to have to tell you that I won’t be coming out to tour this summer. The fact is that touring is just too much too soon. But I promise you that we’re going to get back out there as soon as is humanly possible to give you a show that will be even better.” Kelly’s new album will be released on June 26th and it has been talked about with how much of a battle that she has had getting a lot of input on it. Her and Clive Davis have battled over the content of it as she wanted more control over it. Clive has apparently been unhappy with the album being darker than her previous two. It will be interesting to see how this album does as “Never Again”, the first single, has just kind of gotten a so-so reaction from radio and fans. For anyone that bought tickets for the tour, refunds are obviously being given.

I don’t have a TV line of the week again. I may have to put this on hold until new episodes of shows start airing in the fall. Tough to come up with stuff in the summer of reruns.
Have a great weekend!!
