Hey everyone. Finally found time to do something with this thing. Hope you’re all doing great!
I’m feeling a little better about WrestleMania after this week’s Raw. One thing I had thought about last week was just how underwhelming this year’s event felt. Good thing that they had Rock and Cena to headline and the possibility of Punk and Jericho. Undertaker and Triple H needed some more build for me and it got it on Monday night. The promo with them back and forth was really good including last week’s stuff with Shawn Michaels where Shawn called out Triple H for what he felt he had become. On another note, it is interesting that Taker is now in the position of what Shawn was a few years ago. Doing whatever he can to bait a WrestleMania rematch. The storyline a couple of years ago was Shawn doing whatever he could to bait Taker into a rematch. Now, Taker is doing the same with Triple H. The fact that this match is going to be in a cell now really added a lot of intrigue to it for me. Good stuff. CM Punk and Chris Jericho will deliver. Two great performers like those two are going to put on a show and I look forward to that match and the buildup to it. Rock and Cena will get the official power push next week with Rock’s appearance on the show. Strong promo from Cena last night and I’m looking forward to Rock’s rebuttal next week.
Speaking of Cena, I have to talk about last week. Could they have ever made him look like the biggest jerk ever last week? Here is the rundown. Kane kidnaps Eve and puts her in the ambulance. Cena runs and makes the save telling her that he can’t unlock the door from the outside. Eve flies the doors open and jumps into Cena’s arms as the ambulance pulls away. Eve and Cena then kiss. Pan the camera over and there is Zack Ryder with roses seeing his best friend kissing his girl. Cena goes to the ring later and vents over everything. Ryder makes his way to the ring hobbling. Now, remember that this storyline has had Cena pointed at as the reason that Ryder is in the shape he is in. Ryder limps to the ring. He slaps Cena for what he did. As he goes for another slap, Cena catches it and pulls back to punch Ryder. Ryder falls to the mat shocked that Cena was going to punch him. So, now Cena is looking to punch a guy that is on crutches who is deservedly mad at him. Ryder then makes his way back up the stage and gets rolled off of it to the floor by Kane. Cena runs to help out Ryder. Eve makes her way out there and gets booed. Cena is getting booed. How big of a jerk did they make him look? My first thought was that I guess they gave up on trying to at least get the 25% to cheer for Cena and let people boo him.
What was up with the opening segment last night? Well, at least they had Cena find out that Eve was up to no good instead of him looking like a clueless late 90’s Sting for a few weeks. LOL. My other question is why were the Bellas suddenly caring about a babyface? I wondered if they had turned them suddenly but then they were heels later in the night. Maybe it was a deal where even the heel Bellas thought that was even over the line with what Eve did. Now what do they do with Eve and was this major turn done to take more heat off of Cena especially with my last paragraph of how bad he looked?
The Miz is catching a lot of heat for two things. One being the Survivor Series buyrate. The buys were not what was expected with Rock returning. So, I guess a finger needs to be pointed and Miz is one of the guys taking heat over it. Two, he is taking a lot of heat for R Truth almost being injured on Raw a few weeks ago. Now, the buyrate thing is the one I have a problem with. What was there that he could have done different? Him and R Truth were booked as weak leading up to Survivor Series. Nobody expected them to have a chance in that match with them against Rock and Cena. The draw of that PPV was Rock’s return. It is WWE’s responsibility to book it better and make you care about the match. Now, the heat he is getting over Truth is going to be expected cause you can’t have that happen in a match.
Wade Barrett is out for 6-8 weeks after his injury last night during the battle royal. A spot went wrong when Show tossed Ziggler to the floor landing on Barrett among others. I actually thought Ziggler was the one hurt at the time cause he went face first awkwardly into the announce table. Barrett was furious when the spot happened knowing that he was hurt. He has a separated elbow is the early word. The match continued on while officials rushed down to help him. On another note, why in the world are guys getting thrown out of the ring right beside him when he is hurt already? One landing was very close which had officials looking back with a face of what in the world are you doing? Ziggler appears to be ok from all reports so far.
WWE has announced the location of WrestleMania XXIX for next year. The event will take place on April 7, 2013 from Metlife Stadium in New Jersey. There will likely be events taking place in New York City as well as far as WrestleMania weekend goes based on the WrestleMania logo appearance. Wow was my first thought cause Metlife Stadium is outdoors. No roof. In April. In the northeast. Since WrestleMania was announced for the outdoor venue for this year’s WrestleMania, a lot of fan talk has been what if it rains? It is Florida so you really never know but it is a gamble that you’re taking. Remember that WrestleMania in Orlando a few years ago had a shower that moved around the area as the dark match battle royal was starting. So, that will be something to keep an eye for this year’s event. Now, next year’s event is a whole different level of speculation. It very well could be cold and what if the weather is nasty? It is quite the gamble. Let’s speculate that this year’s event gets messed up somewhat cause of rain. If it does, you’ve committed yourself to a climate for next year already that has potential to be worse. That is a gutsy call for WWE. Hopefully, the weather will cooperate for this year and next year.
Dixie Carter posted an official statement on Twitter last week backing up the rumors of the previous few days. Vince Russo is gone from TNA. WOW! I wasn’t sure that was ever going to happen. Now, the question is what now? I have been hearing good things about the product especially over the last month going back to their London shows. I heard those were great but never have taken the time to watch them. I am curious to see how the product goes from here. Does it get better, the same, or worse? Surely, it can’t get worse? Can it? I’m going to be optimistic and say that this will be a turn for the better for the company. It has to be. The problem I see is wondering if it is too late cause there is so little buzz on this company anymore. The feedback has been good lately and this is coming from guys that I listen to who have ripped on the product for probably a year or more now. I will check it out again hopefully soon.
Speaking of TNA, you may want to check out their international product that they are doing, Ring Ka King. I am hearing good things about it and it seems to be a good standalone kind of deal from what the company is doing on Spike TV. You can see the show online on You Tube.
I might as well mention this for anyone looking for the WWE Network. The original plan was to launch it on WrestleMania weekend. The company is now seeing that they weren’t ready to launch and have now pushed the debut back to the fall. Still no word on where it will be carried. Actually, the talk around the network has completely been nothing since they pushed the launch back.
I am about to see how old school and dedicated fans were back in the day. Who remembers the old WWF arcade game, WrestleFest? It had a Royal Rumble feature in it and an awesome game play. I will say it is the best WWF arcade game ever and I would play it over a lot of the new games today. Well, WWE has brought it back. It is a new version including new superstars and legends. The look of the game is completely the same. Just new names and faces. The game is available on iPhone for $2.99 and iPad for $3.99. There is talk that it will be eventually released on other gaming formats as well including Xbox, PS3, and more. The pictures of this game look pretty awesome. I spent no telling how much money on this game over the years. Lots of quarters!
On a funny note to close, WWF Mania has recently premiered on WWE Classics On Demand. My first thought was how completely random of a pick that was especially with all the WWF shows to pick from. I did laugh while watching the premiere during the Mr. Perfect vs. Berzerker match. During the match, Perfect is leaned up against the ring post in the corner. Berzerker goes outside and grabs his sword. He takes a swing at Perfect who ducks it. The sword nails the post and hurts himself in the process. The match then continues. Now, call me crazy but I’m thinking if you swing a steel sword at a guy in a match, that warrants a disqualification. LOL. The Berzerker gimmick has to still be one of the most memorable gimmicks of all time.
That is all for today. Have a great week.
