The NBA on NBC is back! If you grew up in the 90’s like I did and were a NBA fan, you know the memories that are still forever with you. The games. The superstars. The music. There is something about hearing roundball rock that just charges all of our excitement of those who grew up in that era. I watched the debut on Tuesday night and was very impressed with what I saw. It just had such a big event feel to it just like the NBA on NBC felt like back in the day. I am not a ABC/ESPN fan of the NBA broadcasts and I have said since 2002 just how much their broadcasts of the NBA bore me. I’ve always felt like it was a mistake for the NBA to leave NBC. Tuesday night just confirmed all of that. The NBA on NBC open was so exciting with the Michael Jordan throwback and so many 90’s superstars including Magic, Ewing, and more. That open just felt good. They also got an amazing first game with the Oklahoma City Thunder and Houston Rockets game which went to double overtime. If that game isn’t on NBC, I’m sure I wouldn’t have watched it. With it being on NBC, I did watch and am so glad I got to see that game. Double overtime thriller. Did it get casual fans? Apparently so. I got a text from a friend that isn’t a NBA fan and texted me saying “are you watching the NBA?” They said “us too” so it did grab casual viewers too wanting to check it out. They really enjoyed the broadcast. I enjoyed the broadcast team of Mike Tirico, Reggie Miller, and Jamal Crawford. As a mega Michael Jordan fan, I was curious to see what his weekly segment interviews were going to look like and I enjoyed it. It’s going to be a fun thing to get fans to check it out every week either on the broadcast or up online. Second game of the doubleheader was the Golden State Warriors beating the LA Lakers in LA. I joked at one point that this game is going to be at halftime by the time the Rockers and Thunder are done. A very fun night having the NBA on NBC back. Here is the Michael Jordan segment for his first NBA on NBC appearance.
