This week’s Amazing Race was just kind of there for me as an episode. Not much drama. Teams too spread out. Tasks weren’t very interesting. The last place team was just so far behind. This week saw the elimination of Rubina and Kristine. Even in their exit interviews this week, they’ve discussed how they didn’t see one other team on this last leg of the race. That shows just how far behind they were. It seems like we’ve had this problem for a lot of the season where these teams in the back just get so spread out from the pack that they can’t catch up. The drama that we were actually waiting on was Izzy and Paige to see Jag and Jas where they would be able to show, hey, you didn’t eliminate us. However, they are so far behind the front of the pack too that we didn’t see the drama there that we wanted either.
So let’s talk about the episode. The biggest stories of the episode were Tucker and Eric continuing to dominate at the front of the pack. Team Trainwreck having some issues with Natalie wanting to wait on Joseph and Adam to leave the last task and go to the mat but Stephanie spoke up to Natalie saying she’s fine helping but not to the extent of where they are having to backtrack themselves potentially hurting their own race. Natalie and Stephanie ended up having to leave involuntarily when they couldn’t even find Joseph and Adam again in the parking lot. Natalie and Stephanie arrived at the mat and then saw Joseph and Adam running to the mat as well cheering them on. All is well between the two teams as everyone understood what had happened. I do agree with Stephanie though that this is where alliances can hurt cause you’re waiting instead of moving forward. Stephanie’s point was we need to be waiting for them to catch up to us instead of us going back for them. It will be interesting to see if anything happens with that in the future. Jag and Jas had trouble with driving stick shift as they were unable to find the reverse in the car. Natalie and Stephanie also had trouble with that but asked for help from a local who told them where reverse was on this car so they were good from there. The other semi drama of the episode was the roadblock with teams having to memorize the answers to questions in different locations and then return to the main point where they would be asked questions. What tripped some teams up was that you don’t get answered the same questions every time. This especially got Taylor as she had the plan of find out the questions and then go back to get the answers. Jas also tried this method. Taylor got nailed on it. Jas did not as he thought while running away to just go back and make sure he didn’t get answered the same questions. That saved him a ton of time when he realized that. Taylor had to hurry and make the rounds again. I will give the producers big kudos on that for thinking about that possibility of teams trying to beat the system on that. Speaking of Taylor, I cracked up and her and Kyland on the boat with her messing up and not keeping an eye on the rowing to help him. It was a fun moment of their dynamic. Izzy and Paige just did their thing as they knew they were leaving the pit stop way ahead of Rubina and Kristine but were also behind the other teams. The continued results of this double U-Turn. Izzy and Paige did their thing and just stayed solid keeping them where they are in the race. They battled with Chelsie and Jack. Geez, I really hope Izzy and Paige are going to be able to catch up in this race with them being so far behind. Rubina and Kristine were at the back of the pack doing a good job of their tasks but couldn’t make up the ground they needed. Rubina lost her glasses in the water at one point which was our OH NO moment at the TV. Rubina and Kristine get eliminated from the race. When asked who they are rooting for in the race with the teams that are left, Phil expects to hear Tucker and Eric and instead get a response of Izzy and Paige. LOL.
In the exit press for Rubina and Kristine, they have expressed anger at how the double U-Turn played out putting a whole lot of blame on Tucker and Eric saying if they had used the U-Turn on some better teams including saying “maybe a team that has an express pass” that maybe they wouldn’t have gotten eliminated. Now, let’s keep in mind that Tucker and Rubina were in a relationship at the time so your boyfriend just completely didn’t help you out in that leg of the race. They have not hid their frustration at Tucker and Eric at all in their exit press.

3 – Taylor and Kyland
4 – Natalie and Stephanie
