And we’re back to three tribes on Survivor 49. The beginning of the episode saw the teams arrive to what we find out will be a reward challenge. The tribes are told to drop your buffs and draw new ones. We’re splitting into three tribes of four. The new tribes are Kele with Steven, Shannon, Sage and Jawan. Shannon and Sage is the story that keeps on giving with these two continuing to be kept together. Uli is now Alex, Sophie, Nate and Kristina. And Hina is now Sophi, MC, Rizo, and Savannah. This keeps the duo of Sophi and Savannah together but a bad thing for MC here is that she is now the fourth with a group of three others that are from the same tribe. That’s for later though as the reward challenge will happen first. The reward challenge is delayed though when Kristina gets shaky and has to sit down. My first thought was oh no, I bet she’s having a panic attack. It did seemingly appear that way between the stress of this tribal swap, a challenge, and this heat that is just brutal out there. They send the doctor out there to check on her and after sitting down for a little bit, she’s able to get up and thankfully continue. Jeff even had a moment in this episode as well where he bent over for a moment where the heat got to him as well. Hina wins the reward challenge including grilled cheese. I screamed cheering at the TV knowing Sophi had finally won her first challenge and she was going to get to eat after 11 days!
Back at Hina, Sophi has another big moment when she finds a knowledge is power advantage. She points out that she does know about Rizo’s idol obviously so that would be an option. One thing Sophi did that was a cheer among Survivor fans is that she kept the advantage news to herself not telling anyone. Seems like nobody can ever keep this to themselves in recent years. Stop telling the whole tribe you have something. LOL. MC does say something to Rizo about her being told previously that Rizo had an idol. She reveals that Sage told the whole tribe about Rizo’s idol. So, he had to lean into MC knowing that information.
With the immunity challenge, it looks like it’s going to be Uli going to tribal council as they get way behind. However, Nate and Sophie just go crazy with speed in the puzzle portion making a comeback. Hina wins and Sophi avoids tribal council for the first time! Uli avoids tribal council with their comeback and of course, Kele, goes back to tribal council. This means it’s going to be the Shannon and Sage show from here. What will happen?
Earlier in the episode, we’d had moments of Shannon trying to bond with Sage once again with Sage making faces to the camera. Shannon is ready to go after Jawan for the vote. However, Jawan is hesitant to return back at Shannon as a target after hearing this news afraid of offending his former tribe mates. The talk in the tribe is how hard Shannon is playing along with how she talks to everyone. Shannon is in trouble here at tribal and she looks to feel very comfortable. When she sees that second vote, the expression of calm changes though. The votes go for Shannon and she really does take it well with the full blindside. She goes to hug Sage who goes for the I don’t want a hug response of “I’m gonna give you a handshake because I want the hug to be genuine and I don’t think I can give that to you right now. But I look forward to hugging you in the future, ok?” So the Sage and Shannon story continues right down to the last moment with being voted out. Shannon says she’s at peace with it all with being voted out so no big reaction from her on the way out being blindsided.
