We’re merged! Tonight’s Survivor 49 saw the tribes get merged, idols being discussed, the first individual immunity, and a blindside vote.
The episode kicked off with Steven, Sage, and Jawan bonding together about how they pulled off the Shannon vote. They decide to take this into the merge naming their alliance “The Bottoms Up” alliance. A merge is immediately announced with the other tribes coming to their camp where the merge camp will be. The three then decide on how to handle this with whether they go out to meet the rest of the group arriving or just stay put. Also they discuss on how they are going to handle telling the news of the Shannon vote and why it happened to protect themselves. They tell the others a story to spin of Shannon lost her mind and started looking for idols and betrayal so they had to vote her out. This story seemed to work on Savannah. However, Sage has her new target and it is indeed Savannah who she is ready to see go home. Before we can get into strategizing, there is an announcement of a twist in the game which will be a help with the upcoming immunity challenge. There is a locked chest with many keys out in the jungle. Everyone must run to find keys and just keep using the keys to try and unlock the lock until one finally works. Sage is the one to finally get the key that works and she gets an advantage at the challenge.
This week’s immunity challenge had two steps to it. The first is the teams splitting into two teams of five to win the team challenge of it. The second part would be those five competing against one another for individual immunity. First off, Jeff pushes the players to be memorable and make big moves saying that there are spots still open for Survivor 50 which I thought was an odd play to throw out there. Jeff also discusses the elephant in the room of how are we going to address the two similar named players with Sophi and Sophie. He decides on Soph for Sophi while it’s Sophie for Sophie. Some of the tribe is still calling them Yellow Sophie or Blue Sophi. What is Sage’s advantage? She got a big one! She’ll get to sit out the team portion of the challenge and get the food reward no matter what. Then, she’ll compete for individual immunity. The team portion however is this. The two teams must push this mega ball across and then climb up where there is a puzzle awaiting with a Survivor phrase that they will have to figure out. Jeff plays spoiler alert right at the end of the ball portion saying “THAT’S HOW YOU DO IT ON SURVIVOR!” Spoiler alert Jeff! LOL. That is indeed the phrase for the tribes. Sophi figures it out first and relays it to her teammates. The finish is just maybe a second apart with both teams being so close to beating one another. The team of Sophi, Sage, Nate, Rizo, and Steven prevail. How about Sophi now having three wins in a row!!! That gets us to individual immunity. All five of them along with Sophie will now compete with standing on a plank of wood while balancing a ball. Rizo is the first out. Sage, Nate, and Sophi are the next ones out. You can tell how hot it is out there as several discuss the heat when placing their feet as they move down the plank every so often with time increments. It comes down to Steven and Sophie with Sophie prevailing for individual immunity.
The winning team had their victory meal but not much news worthy there as that group seemed to not want to talk game with one another as much with who they were aligned with not there. The news was the story back with the other group as MC is now on the move to try and find the next clue in finding the idol that she can activate. Also the fact that she needs to get her vote back. MC is out in the jungle trying to find a key somewhere that will help her find the idol. Problem is Savannah is roaming around and sees her. MC says in confessional that she knows she can’t lie about it cause that puts a bigger spotlight on herself of what she’s up to so she tells Savannah what she is doing. MC then finds the key to which Savannah sees it too and throws herself on it too trying to get it. Savannah then makes a pitch to MC of that she trusts MC and wants to work with her. I laughed saying yeah, cause nothing says I trust you and want to work with you like throwing yourself on a key and trying to steal it away from MC. LOL. Each one knows they can’t trust the other. MC does finally later get her immunity idol after using the key.
Where does the vote go now? The main group talks of targeting Steven but they want to scare MC into using her idol and flushing that out. Sage wants Savannah out. LOL. Savannah tells Sophi about MC having an idol so this is big news for Sophi as she has the knowledge is power advantage so she now knows about that idol along with Rizo’s. Yet again, Sophi does not reveal that she has that advantage to which I say great job. I love that she is keeping it to herself. I spoke last week of how no one can ever just keep this type news to themself so I’m thrilled Sophi is staying quiet on it. We get to tribal council and we’re definitely up in the air here on who goes home. Rizo does show his immunity idol and says he plans on using it on someone. Spoiler alert, he doesn’t. So, who does go home? MC does indeed use her idol on herself saying she has to keep herself safe with the uncertainty of this. I said at the TV that yep, I totally get that cause this is all over the place with uncertainty of who goes home. The votes come down to Steven and Nate. Big smile on Savannah’s face as it looks like their plan will lock down with flushing MC’s idol and sending Steven home. Savannah’s expression changes quickly when another Nate vote shows up that she wasn’t expecting. Nate ends up being voted out on a blindside. So, Nate got blindsided and so did a bunch of others. The votes for Steven were Nate, Rizo, Sophi, and Savannah while the votes for Nate were Steven, Alex, Kristina, Sage, Sophie, MC, and Jawan. The fallout of this will be very interesting next week!
