Amazing Race 39 premiere week continued on Thursday night with the second episode.
The teams flew to Madrid, Spain with all teams on the same flight. Several of the women decide to work together as the boss ladies. The teams all land in Madrid where it’s a sprint through the airport. They buy tickets for the train to get to Batà n with a bunch hoping some will miss the train to gain an advantage. That does not happen as everyone makes the train. We get to the road block where it’s tomato warfare. One member from each team will have to dig through piles of tomatoes to find a clue. They will have to do this while locals are throwing tomatoes at them. Erin and Javi finish first in this and are on their way out. The boss lady alliance has issues immediately when Dafina asks for help from Erin and Ali with info but Ali doesn’t answer. Erin does help. I’m not seeing much longevity in this alliance here. Teams will have to travel to Puerto Del Sol. Erin and Javi end up on the wrong train as they go toward Puerto Del Sur and have to make their way back. Daisha and Dalton decide to use their express pass sitting back in 10th place. Katie and Charlotte are the last to leave the tomato road block as Katie thankfully gets her clue. It was like a needle in a haystack type task. The next move ends up being the story of the episode. They are set to get on the train where they realize that one of the train signs says Puerto Del Sur but don’t full pick up that they are going to get on the wrong train. I was saying OH NO at the screen seeing that they saw it but they didn’t catch it completely with them being in the blur of the race. They get on the wrong train. At the detour, Ali and Joanna arrive first. It’s slice of ham or slice of history. With ham, teams will have to carry a ham across the city and prepare ham and also a charcuterie board while getting approval that they’ve done it right. With history, teams will have to find actors playing the roles of historical figures and then go to a board where they have to match the faces and names. Ali and Joanna go to the ham side. Dafina and Saran have moved up to second place and they go for the history side. Ann-Marie & Riley, Daisha & Dalton, and Anuar & Andrea all decide to work with each other on the history side. These teams end up being caught up to by other teams who just start following them. Katie and Charlotte arrive in Puerto Del Sur and realize something isn’t right. They talk to a local and realize they went to the wrong place. They get on a train back to Puerto Del Sol and discuss using the express pass. Ali and Joanna are the first to leave the detour after completing the ham task. Michelle and Matt are second to leave the detour after completing the history side. They all take off for the pit stop. Jaime and Cody decide to use their express pass at the history task with Andrea there. Andrea starts questioning why they are allowed to do that to which Jaime and Cody say in their interview to mind their own business of their own race. Jody and Jenn try history but they end up using their express pass as well. They thought Saran and Dafina had finished when they were still working on it so they panicked of sorts of trying to keep up with them. Instead, they get annoyed at themselves of we didn’t need to use that. Katie and Charlotte are back in the race and try to use the express pass but they can’t use it because another team already has. They are already at the history part so they jump in on that. At the pit stop, Ali and Joanna finish first with this leg of the race followed by Matt and Michelle. Doug and Dylan arrive at the ham and they end up eventually being the only team left at the ham task. Saran and Dafina are struggling with the history task. Katie and Charlotte are catching up working hard on the history task. They had such a great attitude with how much adversity they’d had in this episode. Just concentrating on the task doing what they can do. Their first attempt only had one wrong which was amazing. Doug and Dylan finish up at the ham and are on their way to the pit stop. It’s between Katie & Charlotte and Saran & Dafina for who will stay in the race. Katie and Charlotte get it right on their second attempt which took them 33 minutes. Saran and Dafina finish up at 66 minutes. Katie and Charlotte are battling back and making up time! I also want to point out again that I’m very biased here cheering for my local Murray team of Katie and Charlotte. LOL. Katie and Charlotte do end up finishing last sadly. I was so deflated watching that wanting them to get back in it. They fought extremely hard trying to overcome that train mistake. They never complained. They just took it on the chin of ok, we messed up and this is what we’ve got so let’s just work hard and do it. They did extremely well in that history task too and almost overcame it! Very sad to see Katie and Charlotte go! You did Murray and our local area proud! So glad that you got to be a part of The Amazing Race!
