Survivor 49 opened up with some foreshadowing of how this episode was going to go. Annie is already setting up who she wants to target for the next tribal council while also adding that she hopes they go to tribal again so they can just keep voting people out. Careful what you wish for. She is part of the blue tribe (again I can’t remember these tribe names LOL) as they are coming off of losing Nicole in the last vote out. Will they be able to battle back? There is a lot going on with that tribe in this episode. First, let’s talk about the journey that each tribe will have to send one person on which usually means a twist. Jake, Jawan, and Matt are all the representatives to go. Jawan gets the win and he is left with a decision for reward. He can either go with an individual benefit by taking an extra vote with him which would take away another person’s vote or he can pick a team benefit where he can give a disadvantage to a team for the next immunity challenge. He gets back to his tribe and reveals that he took the team benefit. He was getting some heat on him for looking suspicious for going out looking for advantages. So, this helped him looking more like a team player and eased some of the tension on him a little bit. We get to the immunity challenge and Jeff announces what the disadvantage is. Jawan will have to choose one other tribe to have to carry twenty extra pounds of coconuts and also have to go through ten extra keys. Quite the whammy is what I was thinking. He puts it on the yellow tribe sparing the blue tribe from more misery. What is completely amazing is that the yellow tribe overcomes all of it and finishes first. The sad part of this challenge is the blue tribe having a big lead in the challenge and then getting completely stuck on the puzzle. They just could not get anywhere on the puzzle. Sophi and Alex completely wipe out on the puzzle and just have a full mental block. A tearful Sophi talks to Jeff and she is just stumbling on words with how tired and food deprived she is which clearly added to the mental fog of the puzzle.
We go back with the blue tribe and go to the hidden immunity idol search. Earlier, Alex had found an advantage that could not be found until after they lost their next immunity challenge. After losing, he goes back so he can find the next clue on where to find this. Jake and him are paired up on this task. The problem is while they are doing this, others keep seeing they are up to something and they don’t really have a good excuse to defend what they’re doing. So, Sophi gets involved and she actually finds the box they are looking for but doesn’t let on that she has seen it. She lets it sit there and covers it back up with the thought of she might claim it for herself. Then, Jeremiah roams up and now they have to let him in on it. He does note in his interview after the idol is claimed that he noticed that he was only told because he roamed up on it. Tribal council happens and the talk is Annie on a vote but Annie has Sophi as her target. Sophi and Jeremiah both just lock up in talking during tribal council again pointing out their mental fog they are having out there with the fog of the game and lack of food and comfort. Annie does up being voted out of the game and is the second person voted out of Survivor 49.
A few other random Survivor notes. I just do not understand Jake’s shoe bandit stealing thing. I don’t understand why it’s funny. I don’t understand why he thinks it’s such a great thing. I just find it annoying and it won’t stop. LOL. Nate’s generational problem with his tribe with not being able to relate to the younger ones in his tribe reminds me of Will this season on Big Brother 27.
