Big Brother is back once again. Big Brother 6 premiered tonight on CBS. The show that gave us Bunky, Marcellas and the gnomes, man-danas, the Horsemen, operation security blanket, Dr. Evil – Will, the bad ex-factor experiment, the great twin twist of last year, and my big time summer show as always is now back for another summer of fun. On tonight’s show, the houseguests were introduced and moved into the house. First off, I had heard that they tore down the other house and had built another one. Wow, did it live up to the hype that I had heard. It looks amazing and for the first time ever, the Big Brother house is two stories tall. We found out what this year’s twist will be and that is that each person in the house is playing the game with a secret partner but each duo thinks that they are the only ones that are playing as a duo. We will find out next week who each other’s partners are. This could be fun. They have some work to do to make it as exciting as last season’s twin twist. The look on Jase’s face when the twins showed up in the house last season was one of the best moments ever in reality TV. Ok, so we had the head of household and food competition tonight. Apparently, they are going to combine them into one competition this year. The houseguests were split into 2 teams and competed in a basketball type competition on a long surfboard in a pool. The losing team is on PB&J all week and the winning team then competed for head of household. If you’re new to Big Brother, head of household is where you win a competition and then you decide who the two people will be that are nominated for eviction that week. You also host the competitions and get to stay in the HOH room which includes stuff from home, all kinds of food, and privacy from the rest of the house. Last year, the HOH room had a secret spy TV where you could see what was going on in the rest of the house and outside. The HOH room is amazing this year and it is more than a room as it includes a bathroom in it too. The winning team from the surfboard competition then had to compete to see who could stay on the board the longest without falling in. The winner would be HOH. The team decided to form an alliance and started bailing into the water one by one to not make it look obvious that they weren’t competing. There was a lot of deals being made already in the first HOH competition. The other team did realize what was going on and know that the sides are against each other right now. Rachel won HOH and ended up nominating Ashlea and Kaysar for eviction.
Now, my early thoughts on the show and the houseguests. Yes, I took notes while I was watching it. The things I do for you people. ha ha. It’s still early to really figure out people yet as I’ve learned in the past. It takes a couple of weeks before you really start figuring out what is going on with different people. One thing too is that I follow it big time on the internet. The message boards will post what is happening on the live feeds and a lot of times the person you see on TV is a lot different from the person you see on the live feeds. This has happened in the past. One disadvantage that I have this year is that AOL has stopped the access to the newsgroups which is where my main Big Brother message board was. So, I am either going to have to find an alternate route to the newsgroups or find another good discussion board. On to the houseguests. When I first saw Maggie, I was thinking she looks a lot like Allison from BB4. I hope she is nothing like Allison as she has to be my most disliked Big Brother houseguest ever. It does look like Maggie and Rachel are gamers right out of the gate just from first impressions. Kaysar seems to be too paranoid right out of the gate and that could end up costing him an eviction as he is already up in the first week. I found Eric a little too strong from the start. He is already talking and deciding alliances and who will be final 4. Too early for that buddy. How arrogant is Howie already? I have a feeling that people are going to get fed up with Janelle really quickly too along with Howie. The live feeds are up and going and you can subscribe to them on the internet. It was fun to come home from work and bring up the live feeds to hear and see what was going on in the house. There was so much funny stuff that I saw that had me cracking up that didn’t make it on TV. Anyway, Big Brother 6 airs 3 times a week on CBS. Big Brother will air Tuesdays at 8:00, Thursdays at 7:00, and Saturdays at 7:00. All of these times are central time. House Calls returns with Marcellas and Gretchen which is the Big Brother internet talk show. It’s live weekdays at noon central time on CBS.com. They also archive the show every day and often have guests from previous seasons on the show. I really enjoyed that show last year and it was fun to hear what the hosts were thinking of what was going on in the house and also the fans’ opinions that called in.
Did anyone watch any of the Live 8 concerts over the weekend? I would have liked to have watched more than I did. MTV’s coverage was pathetic and I didn’t even bother with it. AOL showed all of the concerts from all over the world and you could pick which one you wanted to watch. You could pick from London, Paris, Philadelphia, Toronto, Berlin, and Rome. I saw right away how AOL had improved their dial up service cause I actually could watch it. I was stunned. It looked great for dial up and actually had no trouble keeping up with it. At the top of the screen, there would be headlines telling you who was performing where at that moment and sometimes tell what song the singer was doing. I watched some of the concert from Philadelphia and saw some of Dido, Sarah McLachlan, Maroon 5, U2, and Keith Urban . The Who performed in London and also the reuniting Pink Floyd. Pink Floyd was awesome and sounded great. They played “Wish You Were Here” which was great but I was bummed that they didn’t play “Learning To Fly”. Isn’t technology just crazy with what we can do now? I’m sitting in front of my computer eating chips and watching a concert live from all over the world. I had fun watching this and it’s the first big concert with tons of music acts that I’ve watched since I guess it would be Woodstock 99.
Did anyone ever watch Laguna Beach on MTV? It was that reality show that was said to be the “real Orange County”. MTV has put it out on DVD. I’ve seen a tiny bit of it and kind of liked it. I was just reading a review of the box set and it has a TON of extras. For those of you that are Jag Star fans like myself, they have their music video “Save Me” on it that is featured in the show. The reason that I’m asking if you’ve seen Laguna Beach is cause I was wondering if it was any good. If you’ve seen it, please email me. Let me know what you thought of it and if you think I would like it.
Also, let me know if any of you have checked out the latest Real World Austin. I gave up on the Real World back after Las Vegas. That was the only season ever that I quit watching before I even got halfway through the season. I had watched every bit of every season multiple times and loved it up until Las Vegas. That season was just horrible I thought. I did watch the next season in Paris and watched that one and loved that season. I do like the Challenge series but just have gotten so far behind on it. Let me know if you’ve checked out the new Real World Austin and what you’re thinking.
So, I am about to possibly buy myself a DVR. Me with a TIVO could be a great thing!!!
Some various news. It didn’t take long for 8 Simple Rules’ star Kaley Cuoco to get another acting role. She has signed on to be a regular on Charmed. She will play a witch in training. I finally got my Star Wars original trilogy DVD box set and over the 4th of July weekend, I watched Star Wars Episode 4. I enjoyed it so much more after seeing the prequels. I haven’t got to watch the rest of the box set but it is filled with a TON of stuff on it. If you love Survivor and the Amazing Race like I do, you’ll be happy to hear that reruns are about to start airing of both shows. Survivor starts on OLN (Outdoor Life Network) on July 24th and will air an episode every night. The Amazing Race starts on GSN (Game Show Network) on Monday July 11th and will air nightly at 8:00pm central time. I have all of the Amazing Race episodes and Survivor episodes on tape but I will be putting them straight to DVD now. That should be fun. I am excited to see the first season of the Amazing Race again as I still think it is my favorite. I was pulling for the daughter and mom team of Emily and Nancy. This was a great season!! If you haven’t seen the Amazing Race, give it a shot with the reruns cause it is an amazing show that had me hooked from the first episode. Speaking of the Amazing Race, I just read that the DVD release of season 1 has finally been announced for a September 27th release with various extras on it along with the episodes.
I wish you all a great weekend and I’ll talk to you next week.
