I didn’t get to touch last week on Star Wars Episode 3 on DVD. I picked up the DVD on the release day. To no surprise, the demand was high for it. I was talking to the girl there at the cash register and she was telling me that I would not believe how many Star Wars DVD’s that they had sold that morning. She also said that her boss had told all of the employees that if they wanted the DVD that they’d better get it that morning cause they would be gone quickly. So, I now have the DVD and have watched it. It is really an impressive DVD. There are 6 deleted scenes on it and also has George Lucas and others talking about what the scene was about and why it had to be cut. Some of the scenes I felt should have been left in especially with Padme showing that they knew the chancellor was getting too much power while trying to do something about it. I also want to give a positive review to the Within A Minute documentary that is on the 2nd disc. It is called that cause it deals with 60 seconds of the battle scene between Obe Wan and Anakin. They take this one scene and go through everything on how the scene was shot and put together from step 1. It is an amazing process and quite frankly I was exhausted just by watching how much work went into that one scene much less the whole movie. This documentary runs just barely over 1 hour. I saw this movie twice at the theatre and loved it both times. I still say that it is my favorite movie of the saga. I highly recommend it as it is just an amazing movie. Speaking of Star Wars, I was inside Hollywood Video today and the new Star Wars video game was running on the TV. The music was playing all over the store and it’s amazing how that music can perk you up. That movie has some of the best music ever used in a movie. So, I went over and checked out the new video game to see what it looked like. It looks very good from what I could tell looks wise but I don’t know much about it as far as game play wise.
The last season of Friends, season 10, is released on DVD this Tuesday. I’ll be picking it up and will give you a review of it next week . Here is the list of extras for the set. It includes a HUGE blooper reel that will include season 10 and also seasons 1-5. You might remember that there weren’t blooper reels on the Friends sets until season 6 so that is why we are also getting seasons 1-5 on this season 10 set. Looking forward to seeing that. Other extras include: Commentary on “The One with the Late Thanksgiving”, “The One Where the Stripper Cries” and “The Last One” (part 1 & 2), Friends of Friends” part IV (includes Christina Applegate, Paul Rudd and Aisha Tyler) “Joey Joey” music video (all new music video featuring Matt LeBlanc, directed by Kevin S. Bright) “Friends Final Thoughts” (all new featurette that includes interviews w/ the cast and producers on the final days of Friends).
Reunion returned from its MLB Playoffs preemptions and returned with a big episode. Lots of stuff happened last week for sure. We continued to see more of the 6 friends in the present day so we continue to get closer to finding out who was the one that was murdered. I thought for sure it would be Craig but ended up wrong when we saw him in last week’s episode. The end of the episode showed the shot of Aaron getting a letter saying “I know who murdered her”. The next shot cracked me up as the camera moved down to an old picture of Sam and Jenna. I just had to laugh as I thought yep, that’s who we’re down between so the mystery is getting closer to being solved. It is one of the two of them that was the friend that was murdered. Tonight’s episode set in 1990 was also being promoted as that we’ll find out which friend was murdered. It looks like Will Estes is once again playing a character going off to war. The preview teased a friend going off to war and then they showed Will. Will just can’t get away from playing soldiers at war as he is best known for his role as JJ on American Dreams and JJ was off in Vietnam and Will did an amazing job with that!! I haven’t seen tonight’s episode yet but am very much looking forward to seeing it.
I mentioned last week about TV Guide promising an interview with American Dreams creator, Jonathan Prince, with him talking about what he had planned for season 4. I read this and was immediately mad once again cause all of this sounded like good stuff. JJ was going to go off to Berkeley and bring his sister Meg back home after she ran off with Chris. While JJ was there, he would be introduced to a lot of the anti-war stuff going on there. He would come home and work harder on the space program while Beth would go back to school. He said that Meg was going to end up interested in this new guy that would have been Joey Lawrence’s character’s successor on American Bandstand. Prince said that the guy was “superficial on the top and ended up being deeper than that. That’s who she would have ended up with. A local guy. The least likely guy you’d figure.” Sam was going to end up getting a really serious girlfriend. Helen was going to get busted for helping potential draftees get to Canada to avoid the draft. This would lead to a problem between her and Jack which leads to them getting separated but would get back together. UGH!! This 4th season sounded so good!!!!
I got a really nice surprise this week when I realized that the Amazing Race was a 2 hour episode and it was a great episode. The Paulo’s were eliminated and were arguing all the way to the finish line. ha ha. They did really well and got further than I thought they would. I thought they’d be out early due to how much yelling went on between them. The airplane 360 loop challenge was a lot of fun to watch. I’m still pulling big time for the Linz’s to win this whole thing. I just can’t figure out the Weavers. They talk tons of trash about the other teams but then can’t understand why the teams want nothing to do with them. I mentioned this last week but again the Godlewski’s reached out to them to offer some encouraging words with them having to deal with a racetrack again which was tough on them. Right after that, the Weavers go and talk about how much they hate them and all. We definitely have a showdown setting up with the Linz and Weaver families. I loved that the one guy at that gate told the Linz’s about the Weaver’s talking trash about them. Do the Weaver’s just not realize how mean they are to people? I just don’t understand.
I watched The Longest Yard tonight on DVD. This movie was a remake and I haven’t seen the original of it so I have nothing to compare this one to but I thought it was all right. I’m not just jumping up and down about it with how great it was but I thought it was ok. There are quite a few moments in the movie that had me laughing out loud. There sure is a lot of star power in the movie for sure with Adam Sandler, Chris Rock, Burt Reynolds, Nelly, and many sports stars. The three I was keeping an eye on the most was of course from the world of wrestling as Stone Cold Steve Austin, Bill Goldberg, and Kevin Nash were all in the movie. I was curious how they would do. I think Nash is the only one that I haven’t seen in a movie where as I’ve seen Austin and Goldberg act and thought they were good. Out of the three, I thought Nash was the best as his character changes a little bit in the movie but I won’t spoil it if you haven’t seen it. What happens to him is very funny for sure. The basic story of the movie is a former football superstar played by Adam Sandler ends up in jail after a run in with the law. He fell from grace and his life has went downhill. He ends up being asked to help with playing football and ends up recruiting a team to counteract the prison guards team. This war between the inmates and the guards becomes personal quickly. The cast did a good job and it was an enjoyable movie
CBS has ordered two more seasons of Survivor which will guarantee the show will go for a 13th and 14th edition from 2006-2007. MTV’s Laguna Beach is going to air the second season finale on Monday November 14th and it will be aired commercial free. This show has become the most talked about show on MTV overtaking the Real World and Road Rules. It does very well ratings wise. I’ve still yet to watch a full episode of it but I tune in and watch for a few minutes every so often. I do plan on watching it in the future though as I hear good things about it.
Once again, if I can recommend three new shows for you to watch this year , they are How I Met Your Mother, Reunion, and My Name Is Earl. I’ve talked about the previous two but haven’t really gone into My Name Is Earl. This show revolves around Earl who has decided to clean up his life. He has done a lot of bad things in his life and every time something good happens to him, it turns into something bad. He heard about karma and how he can’t expect something good to happen to him when he has been so bad. He is now doing good and turning his life around and karma is smiling on him. So, he has made this big checklist of everything he has done bad to people in the past and is looking to make it up to them so he can cross them off of his list. Each episode revolves around a different thing on his list. This week’s episode was “stole beer from a golfer”. He and his brother rigged the golf games and made it look like this golfer was getting hole in one’s as every game that he hit a hole in one, the guy would buy everyone a round of beer. So, Earl and his brother would rig things so they could get free beer and also food later on. They ended up ruining this guy’s life cause the golfer thought he was this great golfer and went pro which ruined his life cause he didn’t do anything but golf. This is a really funny show and cleverly written. If you want to check it out, NBC is running a marathon on Saturday night starting at 8pm central time. They are running 4 episodes including the one I just described. I just checked to see what episodes that they are airing and all 4 are some of the better ones so definitely check it out and see if you like it.
I talked about last week with Dish Network and OLN. I cracked up laughing when I was reading the paper this week and saw that DirecTV had put an ad in there telling people to sign up with them if they wanted to watch NHL on OLN and then listed their prices for the programming package including OLN. Funny stuff!! It didn’t take DirecTV long to jump on that opportunity.
Have a great weekend!!
