A twister, a twister!! Auntie Em, Auntie Em!! Yeah, I’m quoting Wizard Of Oz but after the weather here last night I thought it was pretty fitting to start with. A night of a lot of rain, wind, tornadoes, and power outages. The power outage is the reason that I’m late this week as no power means no computer. So, if anyone wants to donate a laptop to me, feel free!! ha ha!! Needless to say that last night was a wild night.
We are now down to the big cut on American Idol. The final 12 has been set and it is now game on. It’s now everyone against everyone instead of girls vs. girls and guys vs. guys. I did watch the show last night while also watching the weather to see if a tornado was going to land on my head. Going home last night was Will Makar who was the lowest vote total for the guys followed by Gedeon McKinney. The lowest vote total for the girls was Kinnik Sky followed by Ayla Brown. Let’s go back to my predictions from last week. I did good with the girls which is what I felt solid about although I had Ayla in there and Melissa going home. The guys I had all wrong. I had Kevin and Bucky going home. I was originally going to put Kevin in the final 12 but I got scared to put him in there after he was so close to going home last week. I felt horrible for Ayla as she was one of the most disappointed people that I’ve ever seen when she didn’t make it. She just looked devastated and I felt she deserved to be in the final 12. So, that was a bummer. Here is the final 12: Katharine McPhee, Kellie Pickler, Paris Bennett, Ace Young, Chris Daughtry, Bucky Covington, Elliott Yamin, Lisa Tucker, Kevin Covais, Mandisa, Melissa McGhee, and Taylor Hicks. Bo Bice performed on last night’s Idol show but I didn’t get to listen to it because as I said before I was watching to see if a tornado was going to land on me. I do plan on watching the show again. Kellie Pickler this week got a huge compliment that stunned her when Simon said that he liked Kellie even better than Carrie Underwood. Wow, she was stunned with that compliment. The judges love Kellie. She is one of the biggest sweethearts ever on the show and has a voice to match. I don’t know how far she can go but I can definitely see her going a long way. I’m still voting for her. Pick Pickler!! Was it necessary to bring back the Brittenum twins last night and put them in the audience to watch the show? I found that kind of annoying. Carrie Underwood got four nominations this week for the Academy of Country Music Awards. She was nominated for Top Female Vocalist, Top New Female Vocalist, Single Record Of The Year (Jesus Take The Wheel), and Song Of The Year (Jesus Take The Wheel). Carrie and Rascal Flatts were on CBS’s Early Show where they announced the nominees and their interview that they did together afterwards was really fun. Carrie will be hitting the talk shows next week singing her new single and will appear on David Letterman and then on Regis and Kelly.
I watched the Oscars on Sunday night and I believe that this is the first time that I have watched the Oscar Awards. I’m not sure of that but I do think it is the first time I’ve watched the whole thing. I’d like to thank the Shot By Shot movie game cause otherwise I’m sure I wouldn’t have watched it. The game had the players fill out an Oscar ballot as we got bonus points for correctly picking the winners of the major categories. I got four of six categories right. The only categories I got wrong was picking Amy Adams for supporting actress. Roger Ebert sold me on her while everyone else was picking Rachel. I was going to pick Crash to win best movie but everyone was so sold on Brokeback winning that I changed my mind and voted Brokeback. I should have stuck with Crash as it won. I usually have no interest in the Oscars cause I have rarely ever seen a movie that is nominated. This was true this year as I hadn’t seen anything nominated in the major categories. I had seen Star Wars which was nominated in an effects category and Batman Begins too that was nominated for something. I’m a Reese Witherspoon fan so I was happy to see her win for best actress. I thought Jon Stewart did a good job as the host. I loved the opening of the Oscars where they had a ton of movies all amazingly put together. How did it start? The Delorean from Back To The Future. Loved that. I still don’t like how they cut people off in their acceptance speeches. They were determined to be off the air at 10:30. There were two occasions where two people were up there accepting an award and one person got to speak but they cut them off as the second person started to speak. I just find that to be extremely rude. If you want to be off the air at a certain time, eliminate some of your filler segments and let the people speak a decent amount of time. I did enjoy watching the Oscars though even though I knew nothing about most of the movies. I did enjoy the segments looking back at the movie history of the Oscars.
Joey has returned to NBC and is now on Tuesday nights. Great to see it back!! I would just love to hear it is back for the long term but it likely isn’t going to be.
I mentioned my complaints months ago about the Cosby Show season 1 DVD. The company put the syndicated episodes on the DVD set instead of the NBC originals. This means that about 2-3 minutes of each episode are missing. Even worse was that they promoted it saying that it was the original episodes. The company got tons of heat over this from fans that were very upset over it including myself. They have apparently righted the wrong. Season 2 is now in stores and I can tell you that this release is a good one and contains the full episodes from what I’ve read so far.
Paul Anka will make a guest appearance on Gilmore Girls this season. The reason? If you watch the show, you know that Lorelai named her dog Paul Anka. Anka was quoted as saying that the younger demographic yells at him all the time asking how is his dog? ha ha. He has watched the show on and off after hearing the news and said it was cool to him to have his name used on the show. I have to say that I love the name for the dog from the first time that I heard it. Clever idea all around. There have been many scenes with the dog this season that have cracked me up laughing!!!
I finally got caught up on One Tree Hill over the weekend. Did they kill off Keith??!!! It sure looked like it at the end of last week’s episode. That was one powerful episode!! The only problem I had with it was the ending with Keith. I thought it took the focus too much off of what happened with the student . The only complaint that I have of the show is that sometimes it feels like that they try to do too much storyline wise and that is kind of how I felt at the very end with what happened to Keith.
Last week’s How I Met Your Mother was a very good episode where we saw how Barney turned into a womanizing tux wearing guy. He used to be completely opposite and then his girlfriend that he planned on being with forever left him for a womanizing tux wearing guy. It was a very funny episode. The way that they shot the transforming of Barney into what he is today was put together just like how Darth Vader was born at the end of Star Wars Episode 3. It was hilarious. Again, if you aren’t watching this show, what are you waiting for?
Next week’s Survivor will be on Wednesday and will be a recap episode due to the NCAA Tournament which happens every year.
For all of you Charmed fans, the show will be ending in May as expected. The last episode will air on May 21st.
Regis and Kelly was in Los Angeles last week taping shows. There was a very fun segment with Regis going to a LA Lakers game. He went into the locker room and talked to the players. He talked to Kobe Bryant. He asked Kobe to dedicate his first three point shot of the night to him but that he had to do something to acknowledge it. He asked Kobe to pound his chest after the shot. Kobe told Regis that Regis had to get up and pound his chest back to which Regis absolutely said that he would. Sure enough, Kobe hit his first three pointer of the night and pounded his chest as Regis got up and did the same thing. It was a very fun segment!!
That is it for this week. Have a great weekend and hopefully a quieter weather weekend!!
