We are down to the final 10 on American Idol. This week was 50’s music week with the contestants obviously singing 50’s songs. The ones that you would expect to shine did in fact shine. Some just kind of had so so performances. The bottom three this week was Kevin Covais, Lisa Tucker, and Bucky Covington. Going home this week was Kevin. He was nicknamed Chicken Little for his size and had a lot of supporters for sure. Vocal wise I just didn’t think he was there. I expected him to be gone fairly early but thought he would stick around for a couple more weeks. I actually expected Bucky to go home last night. Lisa? Wow, poor Lisa. I like Lisa and think she has a good voice and personality. I’m not sure what has kept her from connecting to fans. I originally picked her to be in the final 4 but that doesn’t look likely now. Katharine McPhee looked to be the star this week and her and Chris are sprinting to the front of this group of contestants as they are really strong. Simon told Katharine that she became a star after her performance on Tuesday night. Several former contestants were in the crowd this week. Constantine from last season who got robbed by being sent home WAY too early was there. Lindsay Cardinale from last season was seen in the crowd along with season 2’s Carmen Rasmusen and season 3’s Jasmine Trias with her signature flower in her hair. American Idol Extra debuted last week on DirecTV. It’s a behind the scenes of American Idol show that will pick up where the results show leaves off. They sit down and talk to the person that is voted off. It’s an hour long show that also has Matt Rogers from season 3 and Mikalah Gordon from last season as co-hosts along with the other regular host. They talked to Melissa McGhee last week after being voted off and also talked to her family. The show also has a segment where they tell what other former Idol contestants are up to and that is a really good segment. I really enjoyed the show and look forward to checking it out every week. It is from Fox Reality channel but DirecTV has a deal where they do all day free passes with it where you can watch it on the weekend. I also saw this next thing on Headline News about this website that is surveying busy signals on the Idol phone numbers to get a tally on who is doing well and not doing well with fan voting. It was interesting. The bottom of the group not doing well was Kevin Covais, Lisa Tucker, Bucky Covington, and Elliott Yamin. Top of the group was Taylor Hicks and Kellie Pickler. Now, yes, that would hold true with the bottom three last night but I would like to point out that they had Elliott with the lowest percentage but he wasn’t in the bottom three.
I bet I have watched the NCAA Tournament more this year than I have in at least 5 years. If you are part of our crazy tournament game on ESPN.com, you know how competitive all of us are with wanting to win this thing especially if you read the bulletin board. I know we have had a ton of fun watching games together including hilarious reactions when buzzer beaters either go our way or don’t. The game is still wide open right now and there is no telling who will win this thing.
This past Saturday night, I just had to kind of think how cool technology is. Carrie Underwood was a part of the Women of Country concert at the Grand Ole Opry in Nashville. There were two separate shows that night with the first one having an hour of it aired live on GAC. I had heard that the Opry concerts are aired on radio down there in Nashville but I didn’t know that they streamed the station for listening over the internet. I have a Carrie website that I go to that is just probably the greatest fan site community ever cause everyone is so nice there and anything Carrie news related gets posted by them. So, that was how I found out about this being streamed online. So, here I am listening to a concert live online at home that is coming from Nashville while being on a fan site with people listening to the same concert from all over the country. Isn’t technology just cool??!! Carrie performed Jesus Take The Wheel, Don’t Forget To Remember Me, and a Tammy Wynette classic, Stand By Your Man. The crowd there loved her for sure and were just going crazy. Her version of Stand By Your Man got plenty of attention. Others on the show were Lorrie Morgan, Lee Ann Wommack, and Danielle Peck. Lee Ann had to pull out of the second show that night due to vocal problems so Vince Gill stepped in to replace her. The place went nuts when he came out. He then said how he was happy to be there on Ladies Night and was ready to sing “I Hope You Dance” Very funny. The concert is still airing on GAC in encores. If you want to hear any Opry concerts in the future, WSM 650 Online is the site to go to.
I got the chance to watch The Incredibles over the weekend. I highly recommend it as it is really good. It is a Disney Pixar movie. The story revolves around a family that is a family of superheroes. A backlash by the citizens forces the superheroes to basically go away and live normal lives. That basically sets up the story for you as I don’t want to spoil it. I believe this is the first Pixar movie I have watched since Monsters Inc. I highly recommend Monsters Inc for any of you that haven’t seen it either. I saw Monsters Inc. at the theater when it was out with a friend. It was so funny cause it was a kids movie but all of us adults were laughing harder than the kids. There were several points in that movie that me and him were in tears from laughing so hard. To sum this up, if you haven’t seen either of these movies, you need to see them!!
Sci-Fi Channel is running a Roswell marathon today. Right now!! Wow, I really miss this show not being around as it was so good.
Being a huge Seinfeld fan, I had to check out Julia Louis Dreyfus’ new show “The New Adventures of Old Christine”. Julia plays Christine who has been divorced from her husband for a couple of years. They have a son together and Christine and her ex-husband still have a great relationship. They both know how unusual that it is for ex’s to get along like they do after the divorce. They enroll their son in a new school in the 3rd grade. While Christine is there, some of the other mothers say that they met her ex-husband and his new girlfriend which she knew nothing about. Christine runs into them in the parking lot to find them making out in the car. The twist is that the new girlfriends name is Christine. Thus the name, adventures of old Christine as her ex now is dating the new Christine. To make matters worse, the new Christine is really nice even after the old Christine is rude to her in the first meeting. It is a pretty funny show and I liked it. I’ve only seen the first episode so I can’t comment on the episodes since then.
Ok, I promised a review on the first season of Charles In Charge. This was a show that I LOVED growing up. I remember how much I used to look forward to watching this every day after school. I have a lot of memories of how whenever I was home sick from school that I would just lay in bed and watch a tape of Charles In Charge episodes all day to make me feel better. Now, the first season features the Pembroke family when the show was on CBS. The show went to syndication a couple of years later and the Pembrokes were gone and the Powell family was moved on to the show. The show stars Scott Baio who is a student at local Copeland College. He works for the Pembrokes as a way to help him with paying for school. He lives with the family so he takes care of the kids and in return has a place to stay. The Pembrokes have 3 kids, Douglas, Jason, and Lila. Charles has a best friend, Buddy Lembeck, played by Willie Aames. The character of Buddy provided some HUGE laughs over the run of this show. I forgot really how he wasn’t as much of a central character in the first season as he was in the Powell episodes. Charles also has his girlfriend Gwendolyn Pierce that is the desire of basically every guy at Copeland College. The first episode revolves around Charles getting a date with Gwendolyn while also having to take care of the kids’ problems. I thought I had seen all of the episodes of this show but there was a Halloween episode that I saw on this DVD set that I can’t remember. I was watching the episode and just kept thinking to myself that I do not remember this episode. This DVD set also has a bonus episode from the beginning of season 2 where the Pembrokes move out and the Powells move in. I really enjoyed watching that episode again. . Everyone seems to have an opinion on which family that they liked better on the show. I am a Powell episode person but I really liked the Pembroke episodes too. I enjoy both. Also, on this DVD set is a bonus feature which is made kind of like a “I Love The 80’s” type program. The program is a look back at hit shows of the 80’s with celebrities talking about their favorite shows. Obviously, the shows that are featured such as the A-Team, Knight Rider, and others all fall under the same production company that made Charles In Charge. It’s kind of a fun little feature. If you loved Charles In Charge, I highly recommend this DVD set. This is a show that I thought wouldn’t get a DVD release so when I heard the news, I was thrilled! I really hope we get more season sets. I think season 2 might be my favorite season so I hope for that to be released soon.
Veronica Mars is moving to Tuesday nights back to its old time slot at 8pm. It loses its strong lead-in program but it also gets it away from American Idol. It’s been proven this year that if you want a show to succeed, get it away from American Idol!! I don’t quite understand ABC putting Hope and Faith on Tuesday night head to head with Idol and moving it from Friday where it has been since the beginning. I think it could succeed normally on Tuesday night but having it head to head with Idol isn’t a good thing.
Fox has picked up The Simpsons for another 2 years. This extends the show till the 2007-2008 season. The show will have its 400th episode in 2007. The show is already the longest running animated series ever and currently the longest running show on the air. Fox has also picked up an extension on King Of The Hill. This will give the show its 11th season.
