Yeah, I’m early this week but I’ve got a busy day tomorrow so here you go a day early.
This week’s American Idol saw the remaining 8 contestants singing songs from Queen. I really enjoyed hearing the comments from Queen as they were very honest about all the contestants and their song choices. I was also one of those people that when I heard Kellie was going to try “Bohemian Rhapsody” was concerned about it. I also was concerned when Constantine did it last year too. Constantine knocked it out of the park when he performed it last year and it was probably the highlight of his competition. I thought Kellie did a nice job of it too and I liked the rocker look that she had to go with it. Did I feel it was at Constantine level? No, but I thought Kellie did a really good job. I thought the contestants did a good job for the most part as Queen songs can be hard to sing. I wasn’t big on Ace choosing “We Will Rock You”. There just isn’t much that you can do with that song. The bottom three this week wasn’t really a surprise to me as it was Elliott Yamin, Ace Young, and Bucky Covington. Going home this week was Bucky. Next week will see the contestants singing Rod Stewart songs. In other Idol news, Carrie Underwood won two awards at the CMT Awards this week. She was the only artist to win more than one award. She won breakthrough video of the year and female video of the year for Jesus Take The Wheel. Her album is now triple platinum and it is the fastest debut album in history to reach triple platinum.
The American Idol effect is having its effect on music download sites such as iTunes. I read an article last week talking about the increase of downloads of songs that Idol contestants sing each week on the show. It is a significant jump for each song no matter what the era of when the song was originally released. It just goes to show that if I was an artist, I would want my song to be sang on that show. Good business.
Big Brother 7 will premiere on CBS this summer. The big news is that it will be an All Stars edition. This has been talked about for a couple of years now but it will now happen. Who is the cast going to be? Well, we the fans get to choose that. There is supposed to be 20 people to pick from with the top 12 getting into the house. CBS has not released the names on who is up for All Stars and has not said how the voting will be done. This will be very interesting to follow.
It looks like WQWQ has locked down the new CW Network here locally. The CW Network is the merged WB and UPN networks that will debut in the fall. There was question on whether WQWQ or WDKA would get it. It looks like WQWQ is likely to get it.
It looks like ABC is going to try something more with their programming. They are going to try a two month run of offering some of their shows online for FREE. ABC.com is going to host the shows. The four shows that they will put up on the site are Alias, Desperate Housewives, Commander In Chief, and Lost. The entire season of Alias is said to be available also. Viewers will be able to skip between chapters in the episodes of all these shows but you won’t be able to skip the commercials. They will also be doing this for Disney Channel too. From what I’ve read, you can go to DisneyChannel.com and see episodes of That’s So Raven, The Suite Life Of Zack and Cody, Kim Possible, and others. How about Lizzie McGuire and Even Stevens? This is a very good experiment by ABC and it will be interesting to see how this goes over as it could change the dynamic of TV.
Ok, Survivor has picked up quite a bit since I said a few weeks ago that it was kind of a boring season. The merge has helped a lot. Unfortunately, the players that I like keep going home. I really liked Austin and it was a shame to see him get voted off last week. I have yet to figure out that alliance of Shane, Courtney, Aras, Danielle, Bruce, and Cirie. This has to be the most unstable alliance in Survivor history. They don’t get along and often fight among themselves more than the others. Terry offered Danielle the immunity idol last week if she would jump to their side and she didn’t go for it. They are wanting to turn on each other bad but for some reason haven’t so far.
Jess returned on this week’s Gilmore Girls. It’s amazing to see how far that character has come along with how well he is now doing with the book stuff. Rory and Jess kissed before she left but she said that she was in love with Logan. Why??!! It looks like we are setting up for a good final 4 episodes of the season. Lorelei’s parents are secretly house hunting in Stars Hollow to be closer to Lorelei which is driving Lorelei crazy. Rory and Logan continue to be together but it doesn’t look very solid. Lane and Zack’s wedding is upcoming too.
The Hogan Family has already been pulled off of ABC Family. I was flipping around the channels this morning and saw Gilmore Girls which meant that the channel had went back to its pre-Hogan Family morning lineup. I looked it up and sure enough ABC Family has pulled it. The network did say that it was because of ratings but that it will be back as they are trying to find a better time slot for it. I really hope that they are telling the truth about bringing it back cause I’ve missed that show a lot!!
