This week’s American Idol saw the contestants singing Rod Stewart songs. The Tuesday show was just amazing as the contestants did really good with the songs. Rod Stewart was great and had a lot of good things to say about the contestants. He gave great advice and just seemed like he really enjoyed helping them out. He also performed on last night’s results show. The bottom three last night were Chris Daughtry, Ace Young, and Paris Bennett. Chris??!!! I was a little worried about that especially when he was in the bottom two. Oh, and while I’m at it, Paris??!! Those two don’t belong in the bottom three. Come on people. Get to voting!!! Last night saw Ace go home. I’m not really surprised as I thought he’d either go home this week or next. When I saw that there were seven people and they were splitting them into two groups for the results, I knew they were going to pull the Bo Bice trick from last season. They did!! In the role of Bo this year was Taylor Hicks. They told Taylor that he was safe but he had to pick which of the two groups he thought was the safe group. He picked it right but what a horrible position to put someone in. You might remember that Bo last year wouldn’t pick a group. He stood right in the middle not letting them put him in that position and got a huge standing ovation from the crowd. I loved it too when he did that. I would have loved to have seen Taylor do that too. I did get kind of concerned Tuesday night when I was doing my voting as far as busy signals. I put in 5 votes for Katharine. I only got one busy signal in trying to get those five votes which concerned me cause it was a little too easy to vote. I got some busy signals with Chris but got through so I got some votes in for him. With Kellie, it took me forever to get through to get votes in for her. Tons of busy signals. So, I figured she was safe. Tuesday will have the contestants singing the songs of Andrea Bocelli. Wow, didn’t expect that.
If you want to advertise during this season’s American Idol finale, it is going to cost and cost you big. 30 second spots are going for $1.3 million. I also mentioned last week about Idol boosting download sales for artists. It works also on the Billboard charts. Several of the artists that have appeared on the show have seen very significant jumps on the album charts. I was reading an article this morning but I can’t remember who it was but their album jumped from something around number 64 up to the top 5 on the chart after their appearance. I tend to think it was Barry Manilow but I’m not positive.
Survivor last week saw the alliance continue to reign and Sally was voted out. It is down to Terry against the alliance. One thing that happened has happened before in a previous season and that is when most of an alliance all pulled out of a competition to eat instead of compete. Aras was the only one of the alliance who elected to compete leaving him to go against Terry and Sally which he wasn’t happy about. Terry won immunity while the alliance all sat there and ate except for Aras. Tonight’s show looks like a wild one where one of the cast is going to have a medical emergency and “leave the game”.
The Amazing Race was a good episode last night. BJ and Tyler finished last but it was not an elimination leg so they are still in it. First place, Fran and Berry. Good for them. Even Phil looked stunned when they got to the finish line first. They have done really well on this race. I am pulling for BJ and Tyler. They seem to be the team that I like the most.
This Jeff Dunham comedy special on Comedy Central has brought out a lot of our group of friends that grew up together. We all used to love watching his comedy acts when we were younger. I have had friends calling to let me know about this special and how excited that they were to watch it. It has been a cool retro moment for all of us. Jeff Dunham is a ventriloquist who has five different puppets that he uses for his show. Three of the puppets, Peanut, Jose, and Walter, have been around for a long time but he has added two new ones. I didn’t know that Jeff Dunham was still doing TV stuff. A lot of his act is still the same but he has added a TON of new material. This special is currently airing on Comedy Central. I highly recommend checking it out as it is hilarious!! Another option is that the special has been released on DVD which has more footage on it as stuff was cut out due to time constraints on TV. I may have to pick up that DVD. Ah, memories.
This tabloid TV stuff has got to get under control. It is way out of hand. All we hear anymore is what is the latest on Tomkat and Bragelina. It seems like everyday on Inside Edition they start with “breaking Bragelina news”. Then it is where they have been spotted at. Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie were spotted at the 7-11 getting nachos. No, they don’t really say that but it’s to the point where I wait to hear that any day now. Can’t they find anything else to talk about on these shows besides those two couples? Leave these people alone. I found the rating for the big Tom Cruise Primetime Live special to be interesting. It finished 78th for the week in the ratings if I remember right. It just kind of makes you wonder if others are getting tired of hearing about these couples too. Doesn’t it make you rethink the whole “any publicity is good publicity” statement?
That 70’s Show is going to get a longer farewell on Fox. Fox will air “That 70’s Show: The Final Goodbye” on Thursday May 11th at 7:37pm. The reason for the 7:37 is that Fox is airing a 7 minute preview of the new X-Men movie at 7:30. That 70’s Show special will go for almost 90 minutes and is going to be a look at the history of the show and mostly a clip type show. The one hour finale will air a week later. I rarely watch this show but do enjoy it when I get to watch it.
I was going to have a What About Brian review for you but I honestly haven’t had time to sit and watch it yet. Hopefully next week and then I can talk about the first two episodes instead of just the premiere.

I have started to get going on listening to some audio commentaries on various DVD’s. I am a big fan of commentaries especially if it is concerning a show that I like or actors that I like. I listened to the Full House season 1 commentaries done by series creator Jeff Franklin. He does commentaries on 2 episodes which are the first episode and the episode “Mad Money”. It was interesting listening to him talk about casting and how they would get the Olsens shots done for the show. I also listened to the Brady Bunch season 1 commentary. Yep, I love the Brady Bunch as I grew up watching that in reruns on TBS when it would air after I got home from school. There are two separate commentaries on this with one by Sherwood Schwartz. The other has Barry Williams, Christopher Knight, and Susan Olsen. I just listened to the one with the actors and found myself laughing along with them in many of their comments on watching the two episodes that they do commentary on which include “A Camping We Will Go” and “The Hero”. Unfortunately, the later seasons of the show on DVD have very little if any extras on them.
Hey, the Chicago Bulls are in the playoffs!! They enter as a number 7 seed and have a first round showdown with Miami. Ouch. They will have their hands full with Wade and Shaq. Wade is one of the players in the league that is just fun to watch with his style. The Bulls are being talked about as a team that no one is wanting to face in the first round due to how well they have played in the last month. Going against Miami is an uphill battle though. There are several first round matchups that should be good. That Phoenix/Lakers series should be good. The Lakers are a team that others aren’t really wanting to face either as they are starting to get on a roll too. I haven’t actually watched a lot of NBA this year. Too much other stuff to watch. Here are the lineups for the NBA Playoffs. In the east, #1 Detroit vs. #8 Milwaukee. #2 Miami vs. #7 Chicago. #3 New Jersey vs. #6 Indiana. #4 Cleveland vs. #5 Washington. In the west, #1 San Antonio vs. #8 Sacramento. #2 Phoenix vs. #7 LA Lakers. #3 Denver vs. #6 LA Clippers. #4 Dallas vs. #5 Memphis.
