We are down to the final four on American Idol. Tuesday night’s show saw the contestants sing two different songs. The first was a song from the year that they were born. The second was a song that is currently on the Billboard Top 100. It was kind of an up and down show as far as performances. The results show saw pretty much what I expected but I was wanting a different result. The bottom two were Paris Bennett and Elliott Yamin. Paris Bennett goes home this week which was disappointing cause that girl has a powerhouse voice. Her song selection this week may have been what sent her home. It just wasn’t one of her stronger weeks. The final four for season 5 of American Idol is Chris Daughtry, Katharine McPhee, Taylor Hicks, and Elliott Yamin. Someone to keep an eye on might be Taylor as he may sneak into the final two. He has yet to be in the bottom group of votes. He is the only one of all that are left who hasn’t been in the bottom group. Chris was definitely the star this week despite fighting a voice that was starting to go out on him in his last performance. These people work hard for sure and give it their all. When you call to vote for your favorite Idol contestants, you now get a prerecorded message from the person thanking you for their vote. I thought that was a good idea. Apparently, Idol people are reading my posts. Ok, maybe not!!! ha ha. I say that cause I asked last week where the Idol season CD was and they announced on Tuesday’s show that the CD will be released on Tuesday, May 23rd. I looked it up to see what was on it and couldn’t find a track listing on it yet. Wow, 45 million votes came in this week on American Idol. It has been compared to the presidential election a lot in the last week saying more people are voting on Idol than are voting for president. Kellie Pickler had a ton of fun last week doing talk show appearances. She appeared on Ellen’s show and was just in awe as Ellen is her favorite show. She also made appearances on Regis and Kelly, The Tonight Show, and Jimmy Kimmel Live. In other Idol news, season 3’s Matt Rogers is now a dad as he and his wife had a baby boy on April 16th. Season 3’s runner up Diana DeGarmo was on Rita Cosby’s MSNBC show last night talking about Idol and giving her predictions.
Here is something for all of us Star Wars fans. The original Star Wars Trilogy will be coming to DVD this fall uncut. Many fans have been furious at the editing that had been done on the previously released DVD set where scenes were added and computer work had been done to the movies. Some people wanted the movies released as they remembered them. Now, those fans will get their wish. The Trilogy will be re-released on September 12th but will only be available until December 31st so if you want them, you’d better buy them. From what I understand, the new sets will contain the re-mastered versions of the movie but will also contain the original uncut versions that fans have wanted. I’ve never minded the altered versions of the older movies but I’m not diehard like many fans are so I can understand people being upset about it. The new discs are said to be “attractively priced” although the prices have yet to be announced.
If any of you are as big a fan of Carrie Underwood’s performance of Heart’s “Alone” on last season’s American Idol as I am, you will be happy to hear this news. VH1 Classic is going to have one of their classic concerts that will feature Heart. Carrie was brought in to sing “Alone” with the group. It will be on tomorrow night at 7pm on VH1 Classic and I will for sure be watching it. Make sure to note that this is the VH1 Classic channel and NOT the regular VH1 in case that confuses anyone. It will also air a ton of times in replays. This concert was taped a couple of months back on Carrie’s birthday. Carrie’s version of “Alone” was one of the best American Idol performances ever in my opinion.
i Tunes made their decision this week over pricing on music downloads. Despite pressure from the music industry, i Tunes didn’t budge and their song downloads will remain at 99 cents. Good for them. No word on how long the new deal is set to last.
Season finales are starting to roll out. The big Gilmore Girls season finale is set for this coming Tuesday which is likely to leave us with some big cliffhangers over the summer. 7th Heaven wraps up for its series finale on Monday night unless the CW does decide to bring it back although unlikely. I’ve been a long time fan of the show although I got way behind on it the last few years and have never gotten caught up on it. So, all I know about what is going on with the show is what I see on previews although I have them recorded. Maybe I’ll get caught up on it one of these days. This show will definitely be missed.
We definitely have a line drawn between the final four teams left on the Amazing Race. It is two against two. Eric & Jeremy and Joseph & Monica haven’t been making any friends. Eric and Jeremy last night were canceling people’s taxi reservations which was one of the dirtiest moves I’ve ever seen on the show. That was just cheap tactics. I like Ray and Yolanda more each episode it seems. The end of last night’s show was really good with the last three teams all neck and neck literally at the finish line to try to avoid being eliminated. It was literally a sprint to the line when everyone jumped out of their vehicles. BJ and Tyler finished last but it was a non elimination round so they are still in it. It should be a fun ride to the end of this season.
Nick at Nite is set to add several shows to its lineup in the next year. Cosby Show spinoff, A Different World, will premiere on Nick at Nite in July. Newsradio will also premiere in July. Designing Women will come to Nick at Nite in October. My favorite of this group of new Nick at Nite shows, Home Improvement, will be coming to the network too. Don’t make any plans though as it won’t premiere until September 2007.
I don’t watch Lost or Alias but from the attention that both shows are getting, it sounds like they are doing some big things on both shows.
This has been a fun first round of the NBA Playoffs. Lots of competitive series. The Bulls are giving Miami a series like many didn’t expect and it has been fun. Michael Jordan was in attendance at game 3 and was having a great time cheering on the Bulls. It was funny as he was keeping count on how many fouls Shaq had and was showing foul numbers to everyone around him in his area of the box seats. Scottie Pippen was in attendance in game 4 also up in the box seats. It was really fun watching Miami meltdown in games 3 and 4 in Chicago. I started thinking about those two games and what it reminded me of. It reminded me of the 93 East Finals when the Bulls played another Pat Riley team, the New York Knicks. The Bulls lost games 1 and 2 in New York and came back to Chicago for 3 and 4. The Bulls won both games and New York just imploded handing out cheap shots and arguing with each other. Wow, that Heat team is a bunch of bad losers blaming everyone but themselves for the losses. The Bulls didn’t fare as well in game 5 on Tuesday in Miami. Tonight’s game 6 will see either the Bulls force a game 7 or Miami moving on to the next round. Hinrich, Gordon, and Nocioni have been amazing for Chicago. That Lakers/Suns series has been a physical one for sure. Those two teams just flat out don’t like each other. Kobe’s performance at the end of game 4 with the force of overtime and then the game winner in overtime was big time. A possible Lakers/Clippers second round match up could be really fun to watch!! I would love to see that. The teams don’t even have to travel as they both play in the same building. The Clippers have moved on to the second round as they won their first playoff series since 1976 if I remember right. They hadn’t won a playoff series in my lifetime!! Unreal.
The female lead in the new Transformers movie has been set. Megan Fox has been signed on for the movie. Megan is known in her role as the older sister on Hope and Faith. Shia LeBeouf is also said to be signed on and Fox will play LeBeouf’s love interest as they will be two humans in the movie filled with robots.
Season two of Veronica Mars will be released on DVD on August 15th.
