Hey everyone. I’m on a break but I thought this was a good occasion to post my thoughts on the 2006 Superman Celebration. This weekend, Metropolis hosted the 28th Annual Superman Celebration. In attendance celebrity wise this year were Michael Rosenbaum (who plays Lex Luthor on the show Smallville), Noel Neill (the first lady of Metropolis who starred as Lois Lane in the Adventures Of Superman TV series), Marv Wolfman (writer and also has recently written the book of the upcoming Superman movie, created the New Teen Titans series on Cartoon Network), Stephan Bender (the 16 year old who plays the young Clark Kent in the new Superman Returns movie being released this summer).

The celebrities were all at different banks doing separate autograph signings as they normally are. I do like that they are doing these outside now like they did last year. My advice to any of you that look to attend these separate signings is that if you are looking to get an autograph from the headliner, don’t go to this unless you plan on getting there extremely early as they cut the line due getting everyone to the Q&A on time. I stood in line one year at one of these for Adam West and the line got cut off without getting to him. Some of the other celebrities don’t have as long of lines so go to those and get the headliner later at the big signing although you are going to wait at that one too!! The Q&A started and was a lot of fun as always. All the celebrities were having a good time and Rosenbaum was doing a lot of joking around. Funniest question that he got was from a woman who asked him “how it felt to be so incredibly hot”. Very funny!! He talked some about Smallville of course and said how much fun he had with the finale getting to throw Clark around some. He is hoping that next season will see them battle more. Stephan Bender talked about the upcoming Superman Returns movie and how excited that he is for it to be released. He had a great time making it and you could tell all day that he was having a great time getting into this Superman fanfare. Noel Neill is getting a statue built of herself as Lois Lane in Metropolis. They are currently raising money for it and it is planned for the same area as the Superman statue. She definitely deserves this and that was great news!! Marv Wolfman gave a lot of info on his writing and all which was fun to hear. You can really tell that he enjoys what he does.
Next was the autograph line at the Chamber of Commerce. Wow. If you want autographs, I hope you have patience otherwise don’t even bother. Me? I’ve got patience for it. We got in line at noon with the signing not starting till 1:00. The line started moving at 1:00 and we didn’t get inside till 3:00. Yep, in line for 3 hours!! I got to meet everyone and they were all very nice. Stephan Bender and Michael Rosenbaum actually came outside at one point just before 3:00 just to see how much longer the line was cause they were amazed that people were still coming. Stephan actually ran all the way down the street just to check it out. There was still another 2 hour wait at that point at least. So, to help out and make sure that everyone had autographs, the two of them walked outside and made their way down the line all the way to the end giving people autographs that wanted them. I thought that was very nice of them. Rosenbaum made his way around mingling with everyone. He stood in front of the Superman statue letting everyone take a picture of him that wanted him. Yeah, the line was long and the heat was really bad at times but it was worth it and a lot of fun to meet everyone.
Some other notes from there. It will be interesting to see what the number of people is that attended this year as they were expecting a higher attendance due to the Superman movie being about to be released and the star power that they had this year. Bugs Bunny and Daffy Duck were roaming around with the Six Flags promotion on hand at the festival. Yep, I got my picture taken with Bugs. I had a feeling that I might run into him there. Nascar star Greg Biffle’s #16 National Guard car was there. Paducah International Raceway was also in attendance with their PIR car which was painted up with Dale Earnhardt Jr’s logo on one side and Ken Schrader’s on the other side.
Fun time hanging out at the Celebration!
