Spiderman 3 was already setting records after just one day in theaters. Spiderman 3 is now the leader of the pack in box office on the opening day of release. Spiderman 3 made $59 million on opening day as that tops last summer’s Pirates Of The Carribean: Dead Man’s Chest that took in $55.8 million on its first day of release. The movie also set records for most money ever made on a Saturday and on a Sunday. We’re not done with the record setting though. It also set the record for the highest opening weekend ever as Spiderman did a weekend of $151 million. WOW. The previous record holder was again Pirates Of The Carribean at $135.6 million. As of earlier this week, the movie had already made $375 million worldwide.
Here are the box office numbers for last weekend. I have to say that it is hilarious to look at the high number that Spiderman got and then compare it to number two for the weekend. 1. Spiderman 3 – $151 million. 2. Disturbia – $5.8 million. 3. Fracture – $3.7 million. 4. The Invisible – $3.3 million. 5. Next – $2.9 million. 6. Lucky You – $2.7 million. 7. Meet The Robinsons – $2.6 million. 8. Blades Of Glory – $2.4 million. 9. Hot Fuzz – $2.2 million. 10. Are We Done Yet? – $1.7 million.
Well now, this put a little smile on my face. There is talk that the CW is looking into possibly renewing Veronica Mars. When I heard of the ending of Gilmore Girls, I thought that the brightside in that is that it helps Veronica’s chances of coming back. The CW seemed extremely happy with the presentation from creator Rob Thomas of what season four would be like with the show fast forwarding a few years putting Veronica at the FBI Academy. I’m not breathing any kind of sigh of relief just yet cause Gilmore was also supposed to be coming back for a shortened 8th season so we’ll see how Veronica plays out
next week when the networks do their presentations for the new fall season. I think Kristen Bell may be my new favorite actress. She delivers the easiest of lines with a punch to them that will make you laugh out loud. She is amazing as Veronica.
Here is your schedule for the TV network upfront presentations for next week. This is where the networks announce their fall schedules. NBC is up first on Monday, ABC on Tuesday, CBS on Wednesday, and CW on Thursday. Yes, I will have all the news on the network upfronts with what shows are returning and aren’t returning in next week’s Wrap Up. I call it “my annual rant” week. LOL. Actually, I can’t complain about last year as its the first time I haven’t had a major gripe in at least, I don’t know, 5 or 6 years. LOL
3 left on American Idol. It’s down to Jordin Sparks, Melinda Doolittle, and Blake Lewis. LaKisha was the Idol contestant to get voted off this week. It seemed that the judges weren’t all that excited with any of the contestants this week. I know it can’t just be me but I’m just not really into this season of the show. It just isn’t very exciting. At least we have gotten left with the stronger voices of the season although I would have liked to have seen Gina Glocksen get further. I did get to watch last night’s results show in high definition and it looked amazing. It made me want to have high definition pretty badly. I’d also like to add that one of the guests in the crowd at the results show, Jessica Alba, looks amazing in high definition. LOL!!
Carrie Underwood has become the first artist to ever get an iTunes exclusive song into the top 10 Billboard singles chart. Her rendition of “I’ll Stand By You” featured on the Idol Gives Back special cracked the top 10 getting to number six. The cities and dates have been announced for the 56 city American Idol tour and there are a few in the area. The fifth stop on the tour will be in Nashville on July 11th. Other stops are St. Louis on August 9th, Louisville on August 17th, and Memphis on September 13th.
One episode left of Gilmore Girls that airs this Tuesday on the CW. The graduation episode this week had Rory and Paris graduating from Yale. Watching them graduate together was very fitting and brought back a lot of memories of their academic lives. Paris couldn’t stand Rory at first cause Paris is so competitive and Paris saw her as competition of what she was trying to achieve. They ended up becoming friends and roommates. When watching this episode, I kept thinking how much of a bummer that it was if this was our last moments of the Paris Gellar character cause that character is so smartly written. Logan did propose to Rory at the graduation party that Emily and Richard threw for Rory. He proposed in front of everyone but she then pulled him outside to discuss it. She told him that she needed time to think about it which he was fine with. At the end of the episode, she turned him down saying that she just wasn’t ready. Logan is moving to San Francisco and didn’t take the “no” all that well. I tend to think we’ll see them get back together in the series finale. If you’re a Luke and Lorelei fan, the previews show good things for the finale. Series finale is Tuesday night at 7pm on The CW.
We have reached the finish line of this season’s Amazing Race All Stars. Really fun season. Amazing Race All Stars brought back teams from season’s past. I have watched the show since the season one series premiere and have always enjoyed it so seeing some of the teams getting to return was very cool. Going into Sunday night’s finale, we haven’t had an all female team ever win the Amazing Race. After Sunday’s finale and a two out of three chance of it happening, we still haven’t had an all female team win. I really thought this was going to be the season for it to happen too. Winning the All Stars edition of The Amazing Race was Eric and Danielle. This was a team formed from two other teams in previous seasons. It was Eric & Jeremy and Danielle & Dani that competed on the same season. They ended up socializing in that season a lot and the guys hit on them quite a bit. Well, it worked out for Eric who began dating Danielle. They formed a team for All Stars and now they are a million dollars richer. They overcame a LOT in this race. They were yielded twice and survived!! The stuff they overcame was really amazing. Although they WERE dating, they revealed on the Early Show on Thursday that they are no longer dating but still remain friends. Second place was the team that I fully expected to win this Race and I had them to win in my picks at the beginning of the season. Dustin and Kandice had another strong Race run and looked tough to beat. They were extremely tough in their original season and the only reason that they got knocked out was that all the other teams decided to take them out. They rubbed a lot of people wrong and it ended up catching up to them resulting in their elimination. This season, they still rubbed some people wrong at times but they were still tough. It’s funny how these all star seasons of shows work out. I find myself cheering for people that I was against in original seasons. I wasn’t a Dustin and Kandice fan at all in their original season but found myself cheering for them this season. Another example of this is Big Brother All Stars. There were several that I cheered for on Big Brother All Stars but I couldn’t stand them on their original season. Maybe it is a respect type thing or something where you know what you’ve seen out of the competitors before. Anyway, I was hoping for Dustin and Kandice to pull this thing off and I would have to argue them as probably the best all female team in the history of The Amazing Race. Third place was the underdog of All Stars, Charla and Mirna. They proved a LOT of people wrong including me. When I made my picks at the beginning of the season, I had them sticking around for 4 episodes or so. That was around how far they finished on their original season and I expected them to finish about the same. I’m happy to say that they proved me wrong and were one tough team this season. I could have fully seen them winning as well. I think Charla is amazing at the stuff that she did on this Race especially when I don’t think I could do some of this stuff. Warrior. They fought hard and it was a well earned third place finish.
Survivor wraps up its season with a three hour showing on Sunday night with the two hour show followed by the one hour reunion show. Tonight’s episode saw Yau Man win the car challenge. He then offered it to Dreamz who wanted the car bad as he is the only one of the group that doesn’t own one. Yau offered the car to Dreamz in exchange of not voting against him when they get at the final four. Dreamz agreed. Then, Yau sent himself to exile island instead of someone else. Good strategy on both as Yau was able to get the other clue on the immunity idol. He told it to Earl who found the immunity idol so he and Yau both had immunity idols. Dreamz started thinking about the deal with Yau and made the point that he never said he wouldn’t vote for him before final four to be eliminated. The plan got into motion and Dreamz, Stacy, and Cassandra all decided to try and take Yau out. Yau got a “bad vibe” from the group and used his immunity idol at tribal council. Good thing that he did cause he would have been voted out. His votes were thrown out and the next person with the most votes went home which was Stacy. Loved it!! Good job Yau!! We are down to Yau Man, Earl, Cassandra, Dreamz, and Boo going into Sunday’s finale.
There was talk a few weeks ago about Lost setting an end date so they could set up the story better for a finish. That plan is now in motion. The show will have three more seasons that will have 16 episodes each putting the show at an ending of 2010.
I read this excellent article in the newspaper this week talking about viewership for TV being down all across the board. It also brings up the fact that Nielsen is now of course adding DVR viewership to the mix and counting that now. The fact is that live TV ratings must really be down if DVR viewership is being counted and the numbers are still down. What I don’t like about the DVR counting is they don’t add it to the show’s rating unless you watch it within 24 hours. So, if Nielsen DVR viewers wait till the weekend to get caught up on their week’s worth of shows, it doesn’t get counted.
Fox has decided to air the remaining unaired episodes of Driven in July. Two hours of the show will air on Wednesday, July 4th. July 4th? Thanks for going out of your way to air that show on a holiday night when no one is home. Geez.
Hope no one got attached to that show, The Real Wedding Crashers, on NBC cause it is already gone. There is a slight chance that the rest of the episodes could air over the summer. This the third show to get pulled in that Monday at 9pm timeslot on NBC as Studio 60 and also The Black Donnellys were in that timeslot this season.
The King Of Queens wraps up its TV run on Monday at 8pm with a one hour series finale on CBS. This is a show that I haven’t gotten to watch as much as I’d like but I really enjoy it. All the episodes that I’ve seen are very early in the run of the show. Funny show and I know a lot of fans are going to miss it.
Tim Roth has reportedly been hired for a role in the new Incredible Hulk movie.
The Halcyon Company has gotten the rights to the Terminator movie franchise. Pre-production is already underway on a Terminator 4 movie. Speculation is that Arnold Schwarzenegger and James Cameron won’t be involved in it.
There is talk today from several entertainment sites that NBC has renewed Friday Night Lights for a second season.
All right 90210 fans, here is what I have heard on the music changes on the season two DVD. LOTS of them. The one that really has fans surprised is “Losing My Religion” by REM is replaced. Now, if you are a 90210 fan, you’ll remember that this is the Dylan/Brenda breakup song and is even referred to in a later episode. That song is gone on the DVD release. I mentioned that season two would get a closer look from me as far as music changes as I’m really partial to season two and three and I can’t stand what I’ve heard. All I can say is that I’m glad that I’m working on recording these as I can’t imagine having these episodes without some of these songs.
Funny moment on a recent Little People Big World that I watched over the weekend that saw Matt get so fed up with a mole problem that he put a $100 bounty on the mole. Any of the kids that caught the mole on their own would earn $100. If they caught it with Matt’s help, there was still $50 in it. Jeremy earned himself $50 after they caught it in a trap that he and Matt set. Everyone can sympathize with a mole problem. I laughed out loud several times during those segments especially with some of Matt’s comments about the mole.
A cult movie classic is reportedly FINALLY getting a DVD release. The Monster Squad. About time!!! I always loved that movie. Lots of laughs.

TV Line Of The Week: I promise that these won’t be Veronica Mars every week.
Veronica talking to rock star Desmond Fellows after Desmond suspected that a woman that got in his room and was a fan of his stole his backup tapes for the concert. The woman in his room was suspected to be a woman that he chatted with online.
Veronica: Is that the woman? (looking at his computer)
Desmond: No, my mistake. That’s Blackcat 80. The woman in my room was Blackcat 70. Number trouble.
Veronica: So, do you have any pictures of the woman that was in your room?
Desmond: No. Anyone ever tell you that you look like a feisty young Barbara Eden?
Veronica: (Pauses) How did she know you’d be here?
Desmond: How old are you Monica?
Veronica: I’m eleven. You arranged this how?
Desmond: Instant messaging.
