Survivor 49 is a wrap and has crowned its winner. I thought it was an entertaining and fun finale. So, let’s get right into it
To open up the finale, we had everyone returning to camp with Sophi still reeling over the knowledge is power mishap. She is talking in confessional about regretting not taking Rizo’s idol. On the next day, a boat arrives and we learn of the latest twist in the game with an advantage in the jungle. Everyone must first complete a puzzle which will be their map to show where the advantage can be claimed. Savannah is first to complete her puzzle. Rizo then looks over and copies her puzzle so he can finish which was a throwback to the first episode when he copied a puzzle then too. In the jungle, everyone is digging around the tree mail area but the advantage isn’t on the ground. It’s up in a tree. Sophi is the first to start looking around up high and sees the advantage. She knocks the advantage out of the tree and claims it before anyone else realizes it’s not on the ground. When we get to the immunity challenge, we learn that her advantage is her puzzle pieces at the end will be set and up higher to save her time. The challenge itself sees two hard falls from Kristina which hurt me watching cause ouch. She has had some falls this season for sure. Sophi made up ground getting from last and into the mix of trying to win. She also tries to do the copy technique as well with the final puzzle. Savannah has this challenge in control and wins her 4th immunity tying the all time immunity wins by a woman at 4 wins. She also gets reward for winning which will be a meal at the sanctuary. She can pick one to go with her and she picks Sage to go with her. At the sanctuary, Sage makes her pitch to Savannah on getting to final four which Savannah is all ears on listening to and she’s for it. Back at camp, Kristina is making her pitch for final four to Rizo and Sophi and making progress as well on them. That sets up a clash when everyone is back at camp. Rizo wants to keep Kristina. Savannah does not and wants to keep Sage. So, the trio is not agreeing on what to do here. We also got Sophi in confessional saying that the immunity win by Savannah messed up her plan of taking out Savannah so she’d have a big move on her resume. The battle over the vote dominates the last stretch before going to tribal council. Kristina made her pitch on staying in the game which rubbed Sage wrong and they clashed over that. Ultimately, Kristina is voted out.
That gets us to the final four immunity challenge. Things are looking really bad for Sophi including it being so bad that she’s talking down on herself. Savannah is in control of the challenge and then Sophi makes a massive comeback getting back into the challenge. She goes from last to first and wins the most powerful immunity getting herself to tribal council, choosing who to take with her, and who to put in the fire competition. Major kudos to Sophi for getting that comeback win and it’s something she really needed. She was talking of how she needed a resume move and that was definitely something to put on it. She talks of how it will be a game time decision on what she does. That annoys Savannah to which I’m thinking look, she’s trying to win here, not hold hands to the end. Savannah has been winning immunities like crazy and you have to take her out. Not hold hands to the end so I was glad to see Sophi choose to take Sage with her to the end and put Savannah and Rizo against each other in the fire comp. Savannah is the odds on favorite to win the game at this point in my mind so you have to put her in that position with a chance to take her out and increase your own odds to win. Savannah and Rizo compete with Savannah winning easily. Rizo struggled big in this one. That means we have an all female final three for the first time in a very long time which is awesome. Sophi, Savannah, and Sage.
The final tribal council takes place with the jury doing their questioning. The biggest question from the jury was Kristina going at Savannah asking her what she knows about her fellow cast asking her to name a loved one of each person not in the trio alliance which she struggles with. Kristina is definitely showing the weakness of Savannah with her social game. Sophi on the flip side is shining here with her social game talking of what she did in the game while also shining talking to the jury. Sage revealed a lot of her background story to the jury and she talks of her game. Steven definitely pushed Sage on asking her of the betrayal of the majority alliance where they had majority of seven and then let the trio of three get power instead. So, she seemed to be sunk by the jury members that felt betrayed by her. By the time we get to the end of this jury questioning, I’m thinking there is a chance here for Sophi to get the win. It felt like Savannah would be the one tough to beat just even based on her immunity wins. That’s what happened as Savannah takes the win. The only votes for someone else were Kristina and MC voting for Sophi and then Jawan voting for Sage. So it was awesome seeing everyone getting votes. It felt like this was going to be a Savannah win cause she was strong down the stretch in this game as they just couldn’t get her voted out cause she kept winning immunity challenges. I’ve been a Sophi fan all season so I was hoping she was going to find a way to pull this out and she really made a run for it in that end game.
The other really big thing of the night was seeing the first look at the very anticipated Survivor 50. We also got our reveal of who the two Survivor 49 people would be on 50. That will be Savannah and Rizo. Survivor 50 will be called In The Hands Of The Fans. Here is the trailer that was shown tonight.
