Day 16 was quite the day on Survivor 50 with the new duos twist that got introduced into the game which changed the whole dynamic of tribal council.
We start with the follow up of the Dee vote on night 15 and Tiffany is livid over it. She is wanting to vent but knows that she can’t cause it will put an even bigger target on her. She knows she’s in trouble with Dee going and that they’ll be coming for her next. Coach brags in confessional about how he controlled all the votes tonight. Jonathan talks to Coach telling him that he needs to reel it in now cause he is putting such a big target on himself. We then get to the big day 16 which will be the rest of this episode. Jonathan and Stephenie talk where he tells her that he told Coach to tone things down. Chrissy is seen talking about how they need to go after the middle people which is the people in the middle of the game. Ozzy and Tiffany talk where he tells her he had to vote for her cause Coach came in hot with what he was wanting to do. Ozzy and Tiffany talk working together and are on the same page. Ozzy talks of how he also wants to target the middle people but that he then wants to take out Coach when Coach gets comfortable.
A boat arrives and here comes the start of the twist. They are told that they will have to divide into six pairs with one person out since they have an odd number of people left in the game. Several are comfortable with wanting to sit out with Cirie being the first to speak of wanting to sit out. They do a bag draw of names and Cirie is picked to be the one to sit this out. Who will be the pairs? They decide to give time to let everyone talk it out and pick who they want. The pairs end up being Jonathan & Christian, Aubry & Devens, Chrissy & Coach, Ozzy & Stephenie, Emily & Rizo, and Joe & Tiffany. Coach continues to talk about wanting Tiffany out. He goes to talk to Tiffany to try and cool things off between them and see if he can get her off the track with him. Instead, he really just makes it worse when he says that he did not push for her to go on the last vote. She asks if it wasn’t him, then who is it? Coach just sits there with no answer and has nothing for a response. Tiffany basically then goes into a casual response of well, good talk. LOL. Tiffany knows what is going on here. We get to the challenge and Jeff announces the duos twist. The duo that wins will both have immunity. At tribal council, everyone will vote individually…..but they will vote for a duo meaning a duo will go home. Not just one person. So, now you could go home if you are tied to someone that doesn’t have good standing in the tribe and you home by association of being paired up. There will be two parts to the challenge. The first three duos to finish in part one move on to part two. The winner of that will win immunity. What about Cirie? She gets told that she is going right then on a boat to exile island but that she will be safe from tonight’s vote. Cirie is good with this turn saying “I’ll take it” as she walks toward the boat leaving the challenge. The first part of the challenge has the winners being Tiffany & Joe, Stephenie & Ozzy, and Aubry & Devens in that order. Awesome job by all three duos. The last part sees Aubry and Devens doing awesome working together to get ahead in the first section of the challenge. They get stuck though on the rolling the ball through a puzzle part. Tiffany & Joe struggle in the first part. It appears to be between Aubry & Devens and Ozzy & Stephenie but Tiffany & Joe get to the puzzle part and start making up time fast working well together. Ozzy & Stephenie keep getting right to the end but dropping the ball. Tiffany & Joe make the comeback and get the immunity win. Big game changing moment here as Tiffany was appearing to be in trouble so this was a huge win for her. As the challenge ended, Jeff announces another part to the duo twist and that is if an idol is played, it protects both members of the duo. If someone plays a shot in the dark, it only can be played for the one person who played it.
Cirie arrives at exile island to a beach full of 2,000 coconuts. She has a task to complete. If she completes the task, she gets to go back to camp and vote. If she doesn’t, she doesn’t get to vote and stays on exile for the night. The task is to find a coconut among the 2,000 with a phoenix on it in a set amount of time. Cirie battles through trying to find the coconut wanting to get back to vote knowing this vote could be huge for her game. A tearful Cirie finally finds the coconut and she will get to return to camp. Back at camp, we see Emily talking to Christian and Ozzy that now is the time to get Coach and Chrissy saying that if the Coach group get their way on this vote, they have the numbers to steamroll the game from here. Rizo wants to take out Devens with him saying that he wants the spot in the game where Devens is. Aubry is wishing that she had her idol back. At the reward for winning, Joe admits to Tiffany that he voted for her and his reasoning. Tiffany appreciates his honesty in telling her that and the two are on the same page of wanting to work together. They talk about wanting to vote out someone in the middle. Chrissy wants to take out Rizo. She also puts Coach in time out on the hammock telling him to basically stay there and stay out of trouble cause her game is on the line here too. Cirie returns from exile. She tells Ozzy and Tiffany that now is the time to take out Coach and Chrissy saying we can get two threats in one here. We get a revisit moment of the Ozzy and Coach clash from episode one over the key and Ozzy says he’s ready to get his moment on Coach by taking him out. Cirie works her way around pitching the target of getting Coach and Chrissy out. Chrissy tells Cirie that she wants to take out Rizo which is the wrong person to tell that to as Cirie has been working with Rizo. That even more seals Cirie’s decision and Cirie tells that info to Rizo letting him know that Chrissy is throwing his name out. Cirie, Tiffany, and Ozzy pitch their plan to Joe who is not into it. He wants Devens and Aubry out. Devens and Aubry are feeling very nervous and Devens says during confessional that if he panics, he’ll just use his fake idol play.
We get to tribal council which turns into a crazy one. Devens does indeed get panicked and starts discussing that he didn’t have an idol but did have a clue to get an idol. He then makes a dive at the spot where he hid the fake idol with Christian earlier in the game. The rest of the tribe reacts of what just happened??? He has an idol??? They ask questions of did you have a clue and then you had to get the idol there? Now, this turns into a live tribal very fast. Stephenie starts asking if that idol is real. She asks Christian to get the info on it and he says he doesn’t want to get involved. LOL. Of course he doesn’t. He helped set it up. LOL. Others discuss keeping votes on him to make him play it and flush it. People are getting up and talking to one another. Aubry is obviously thrilled with this idol news. Stephenie asks to see the idol which I thought was an obvious great thing to ask but Devens isn’t budging saying he’s keeping it to himself. Now, it’s a game of is he telling the truth or what? We get to the vote. Coach plays his shot in the dark but is not safe. Devens does not play his fake idol. He tells Aubry that it can’t be used until the next tribal. The votes come in and the votes for Coach and Chrissy come from Emily, Rizo, Christian, Tiffany (with a huge grin LOL), Joe, Stephenie, Ozzy, Aubry, Devens, and Cirie. Coach and Chrissy are voted out.
Thoughts on the episode. I enjoyed it. When they announced the duos twist, I wasn’t sure I’d like it but it did end up entertaining. It did shake up the game. Devens went full power with that fake idol play and it made for fun TV. I laughed out loud at Christian not wanting to get involved in it and trying to get out of it. The immunity challenge was fun and the sway of who was going to win was fun. Coach being put in time out was funny. The Cirie montage at exile island was well put together and brought back so many memories of why we love her. I love Dee at tribal council. The edit cuts to her reactions on things were cracking me up.
