Jimmy Fallon takes on Survivor. I didn’t expect to talk so much about Jimmy Fallon tonight on an episode of Survivor but it’s a big part of tonight’s episode. It helped make a game changing moment.
Tonight’s episode opened up with the tribe returning back to camp after the Chrissy and Coach vote out but the biggest topic is Devens and his crazy idol moment. Jonathan is thinking it backfired putting too much attention on Devens. Stephenie is trying to figure out how it all happened and how it played out. Devens confesses that the idol is fake…..to Emily. Of all people, you tell Emily who can’t keep a secret. LOL. We get to Day 17 which opens up with Rizo talking about how Devens did too much with the idol. Rizo. The guy who last season did the most unnecessary idol antics possibly ever for no reason. LOL. Cirie talks of how she loves what Devens did cause it put more of a target on him. Cirie also talks of how she is in a good spot where she’s basically working with everyone in one way or the other which is so true. She has her core alliance and then side alliances and even casual type working together. Jonathan tells Aubry that people see her and Devens as one with Aubry realizing that she needs to separate from him for her own game. She talks of wanting to align with Jonathan. Joe and Devens talk where Joe tells him that he was never voting for him to where Devens isn’t buying any of what Joe is selling. Christian talks to Jonathan and Stephenie. Jonathan tells him that he feels like he can’t trust him to which Christian decides to try another trust type play of I’ll give you my shot in the dark to show my sign of loyalty. Jonathan pitches Christian to Joe talking about the shot in the dark that he is being told he’ll be given. Christian pitches Ozzy to Cirie and Devens saying Ozzy is right in the middle of the game. This is a terrible idea as Cirie is tightly aligned with Ozzy and we get a funny confessional from Cirie saying “why do people keep coming for my allies?”. Cirie of course tells Ozzy what she was just told by Christian. She also tells Jonathan that Christian is pitching him and Ozzy for possible vote target.
We move to Day 18 with the immunity challenge. This is the challenge where you have to keep your bucket of water in the air by holding on to your grip. It is balanced by your pre game weight. We get a twist however on rice. Jeff says they’ll get the rice if five people can outlast…..him. Jeff is going to compete in this challenge as well. Jeff said he needs a side bet in this challenge where he needs five people to step out and if all five outlast him, they win the rice. However, if he outlasts even one of the five, he keeps the rice. The negotiation turns to what about four? Jeff accepts and it’s Jonathan, Joe, Tiffany, and Ozzy competing against him. Jeff says that he was on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon and that this was something Jimmy suggested Jeff doing. Jeff thought it was a fun idea and went with it. This was very entertaining. Jeff getting a wake up call immediately of how tough the challenge is and how much harder it is than he thought. The cast trash talks him like he does with them. We also got a great montage of Jeff trash talking people in challenges over the years. LOL. Rizo and Emily go out first. Devens follows going out and Jeff gives him the commentary duties. Cirie goes out next. Jeff is struggling to stay in here and goes out at the 7 1/2 minute mark. Everyone gets the rice. I really enjoyed this a lot watching Jeff compete and the cast and him having so much fun talking back and forth. One of my favorite Jeff moments of all time and this was a very fun idea. Christian goes out next but he beats Jeff which he was very happy about it. We then get a super power up from Aubry who just powers that bucket back up. Jeff says “how are you wrenching that up??!!” and Aubry says “cause I’m psycho.” LOL. That moment was made even better from the fact that Jeff knows how hard that is with what she is doing. Aubry does end up going out next. Stephenie and Tiffany go out next. This leave a final three of Joe, Ozzy, and Jonathan. Jonathan goes out at the 12 minute mark. This leaves a showdown between Joe and Ozzy. Joe ends up winning immunity. We get a twist here with it being announced that Joe has to name a person to go on a journey. He asks if anyone wants to volunteer to go and several raise their hands. He has them do a random paper rock scissors tournament with the winner going. Christian wins. Not who a bunch were wanting to see go in case he comes back with an advantage but little does he know that Jimmy Fallon is looming.
Back at camp, we have Cirie and Emily disagreeing heavily on how much rice to cook. LOL. Some good Cirie confessionals here that made me laugh about how Emily was on her nerves with telling her how to do rice. Everyone is loving the rice and so are their full bellies. Jonathan tells Joe about Christian’s target plans and Jonathan pitches Christian to Joe and to a bunch of others. We then move on to the journey seeing Christian arriving to a barge for a challenge. It’s the Rachel LaMont challenge from Survivor 47 which still brings back my stress level of how hard I was cheering her to win that thing where it was a crucial point of her Survivor game. Tonight though, Jimmy Fallon is back with a note and he’s back with a game changing twist. If Christian is able to complete this, he gets to place a vote in the urn before he goes back. This has a flaw though as it’s basically an extra vote that you are forced to use before you even know where the votes are going for the night. If he loses, he has to take Jimmy’s note back to camp and read it. Christian is unable to complete the puzzle in time and that was quite the dramatic visual shot of watching that uncompleted puzzle sink down in the water. Christian returns to camp and reads his note of shame. He learns of the twist of his loss and it’s that he gets to cast a vote at tribal…..for himself. He reads this to the whole camp. WOW. My reaction and also the same reaction there. That is a massive very heavy twist there Jimmy Fallon. So, immediately Devens and Christian talk where Devens warns Christian that he’s in trouble with the votes. Christian tells Emily his promise that he made with the shot in the dark to Jonathan. He does keep his promise and gives it to Jonathan. Emily tries to come up with a plan and she pitches Ozzy……to Cirie and Tiffany. Not good for Emily here. LOL. Tiffany and Cirie are ready for Emily to go. They tell Ozzy that his early game number one just pitched for him to go. They all say let’s vote her. They talk to Rizo and Aubry but Rizo pushes back saying now is the time to take out Christian cause he already has one vote against him for sure. The group keeps talking votes with Cirie saying in confessional that who they are taking out keeps changing every 15 minutes. As a Big Brother fan, I kept having flashbacks of Big Brother 25 when she was on there and her and her alliance could not ever make a decision. They’d have it and then change their mind. Then, change back. And change back. If you were a live feeder, you are laughing reading this remembering how we could never rest EVER cause they would constantly change their mind. LOL.
This gets us to tribal council. Is it Christian? Ozzy? Devens? Emily? Christian vents on his day to Jeff where he vents on Jimmy Fallon to where Jeff and the jury are reacting with a WOW. LOL. Emily pushes back saying nobody made him go on the journey saying she stepped back from the journey for a reason. Ozzy mentions with a snark that with the vote that sometimes you don’t go for low hanging fruit with a definite uneasy line unsettling several there at tribal. We get to the vote. Christian gives a Jimmy Fallon vent as he puts his own name down. The votes go 6 against Christian, 3 against Devens, and 2 against Ozzy. Christian is voted out. Jonathan gives him his shot in the dark back after the vote out. The votes against Christian were: Joe, Rizo, Tiffany, Cirie, Aubry, and Christian. The votes against Ozzy were Devens and Emily. The votes against Devens were Ozzy, Johnathan, and Stephenie.
Thoughts on the episode. A fun one. I loved the immunity challenge. The Jeff stuff was fun. The Jimmy Fallon twist. The positive of winning it was that you get an extra vote that could be not very much power if you don’t know what is going on back at camp. You might need that vote to swing at someone else to save yourself. And it’s gone. If you lose, you have to vote yourself. That’s brutal. Definitely feels one sided with power where the negative is stronger than the positive. So, Christian has to get a Tonight Show appearance, right? Either that or maybe Christian wants nothing to do with it which is always possible too. That was just such a powerful game twist especially when everyone at camp knew you had a vote to put against yourself. At that moment, he’s a very easy target which is what Rizo was saying. I really thought Emily might be done tonight cause she constantly can’t keep herself out of trouble. One thing I didn’t mention is that Devens did not play his idol. It seems like everyone is buying his idol story so far. Does Emily out him? It doesn’t take much for her to go rouge. It does look like there is plenty of game drama next week from the previews.
