The new ‘Big Brother’ season of The Amazing Race premiered tonight. This season is featuring a Big Brother alum and a loved one of theirs. We do, however, have one team that is all Big Brother alum with the dating duo of Taylor and Kyland. It’s not unusual obviously to have Big Brother alum on The Amazing Race but this is the first ever season with a full cast of alum. I did have a laughing moment tonight where if you’re just a diehard Amazing Race fan and have never seen Big Brother, you are sitting there watching when they suddenly roll footage from Big Brother. The footage is of Tucker talking game with Angela in the bathroom……while he is wearing his costume. Race fans must be thinking what in the world is that show? LOL.
So, let’s get into the happenings. The beginning was confusing where all the sudden teams were running to a task and I said wait, did I look down at my phone and miss the ready, set go. Nope, we’re just kind of already going. We are not wasting any time getting into a big reward in the race moment as Phil announces an express pass to be won in a first task. The teams go to an ice rink where one member has to push the other down the ice on a sled into bowling pins. You must knock down all the pins to win the task. Taylor and Kyland are the first out of there to complete the task and win the express pass. On the flip side, the last to finish are Enzo and Jack and they get the problem of another task in the race that they will have to complete. All the teams gather with Phil after the task is completed. Phil announces another twist. Another express pass and Taylor and Kyland get to make the decision on who gets it. Now, the edit already laid the groundwork of their history with the teams for those that didn’t know about it. Taylor with her ex, Joseph. Kyland with his former roommate, Hannah. They decide they don’t want to pick something predictable and try to make some new allies. They give it to Jag and Jas which was surprising. Matt and Megan talked about it when they got in their cars to start driving with Matt saying hey, let’s give it to a strong team and make them stronger. LOL. Teams then went to a task where they had to drive tandem bikes with delivering cheese. Enzo and Jack completed their extra challenge having to eat something. We then move to a greenhouse where teams have to go into this massive structure of flowers and pick out the matching flowers to what they see at the beginning. Going early was definitely the advantage in this task as we found out. Jag and Jas get there first followed by Tucker and Eric. Jas starts helping Eric in there. They get out of there. The moment of the task for me comes next when Rubina and Kristine arrive and Kristine takes the task on because……she’s a florist. So she walks in and it was like walking into heaven with her reaction. I loved her fun reaction. Izzy takes on the task next and they are roaming around in there together and then things get VERY COMPLICATED when the lighting timer shuts down and the roof closes making the whole building go dark. We could see very little on the screen but you have them talking about how it’s completely black in there giving us a clue of just how the light is completely gone in there. The rest of the teams have to do this task with headlamps on their head. Full disadvantage of not being able to see the colors of the flowers very well or just see much in general. The ones that get in the biggest trouble are Jack, Kat, and Matt. I’ve got to get used to calling Turner, Matt. LOL. Kat is able to get out of there. It then comes down to Jack and Matt right down to the wire. Matt finishes ahead of Jack and the two teams battle to the mat to not be the first eliminated. Enzo and Jack after a tough day where it seemed like nothing went right for them end up being the first team out of Amazing Race 38. Who finished at the top of the standings? It was Jag and Jas just barely beating Tucker and Eric. Both teams were so close that they spent their Phil time together on the mat.
Other notes from the episode. We had 14 teams on this episode so it was very fast paced and it was tough to focus on everyone and everything with happenings. We got some background stories whether it was about Big Brother or history of the relationship of the BB alum and their loved one. Europe will be the only location for this season of The Amazing Race. My first thought was I wondered if maybe they didn’t want the teams racing around in the U.S. to where fans would see them for spoilers and such and maybe be a distraction to taping the show. They wouldn’t be as known in Europe. Kat cried a lot in this episode. LOL. We had the moment where she accidentally took the bandana from the cheese task and forgot to give it back before leaving. She got worried that they were going to get penalized for it which I don’t assume they would have been over something so silly. Then, she cried again during the flower challenge getting frustrated. These sibling teams just crack me up to where it’s clear they are siblings. You know how you just see siblings and you say oh yeah, you are definitely siblings. There was a moment where they showed Jag, Tucker, and Hannah all back to back to back with their siblings and I said geez, they look so much like their sibling and act and talk so similar too. I loved that cause the energy levels were so similar. LOL. It was like twins. Lastly, will we see any previous Big Brother fallout from teams on this season similar to the Britney and Danielle drama on The Traitors? We shall see. They kind of set up the Angela and Tucker drama with the Big Brother footage rolled into the early episode.
