The Guild has set an incredible record by defeating Veronica Mars as the top crowd fundraising movie of all time on Kickstarter. With 38 hours to go, The Guild: Ren Faire’d went over the record mark. Veronica Mars had the record of $5,702,153. As I type this on Thursday afternoon, The Guild is currently at 5.8 million with 33 hours to go. Felicia Day put out a statement on this incredible achievement saying “Becoming the most-funded movie in Kickstarter history is completely surreal. We started this campaign because we wanted to prove there was still a way to make something weird and wonderful with the people who actually want to see it, instead of waiting for someone to give us permission. And once again, the Guildies showed up in a way I never could have imagined. I’m overwhelmed, incredibly grateful, and so incredibly pumped to go make the movie they deserve. But mostly grateful. As the community says, suck it suits!”
The movie has previously announced the additions of Wil Wheaton, Nathan Fillion, and Mischa Collins to the cast.
The Kickstarter campaign started last month with Felicia putting up this statement: “When I realized the show’s 20th anniversary was coming up in 2027, I knew I needed to do something big to celebrate. My times with the cast during Covid, when we were murdering each other over and over in Among Us, reminded me of all the fun we’d had together. But it wasn’t until someone evoked rage in my heart that I decided to make a reunion movie. A Hollywood executive called me up at the beginning of 2025 to talk about “The Guild”. Since the show had largely been ignored by the establishment, I was excited. Would someone finally give me a budget and help me make my show?! Then they told me what they envisioned: A show re-tailored for gamers TODAY. With… younger actors. That’s right! They wanted to recast me in my own show. And in that moment I knew I had to bring the cast together again and make a reunion movie. Fund it by going straight to the community that helped us defy the system over and over for nearly twenty years. So we could laugh together again. Celebrate gamers and geeks again. And do it OUR way.”
Rob Thomas gave his endorsement today from the Veronica Mars side posting, “Best of luck to Felicia Day on her Kickstarter quest to fund her movie, THE GUILD. It looks like they’re going to top the VERONICA MARS total in the next day or two. Records were made to be broken. Help put them over the top!”
