We’re back in Sri Lanka to start off this leg of The Amazing Race and we’re thrown right into the drama from last week’s cliffhanger. It’s time for a live double U-Turn vote. Teams will have to do both sides of this detour. Automatic double U-turn for Doug and Dylan for their fallout of surviving the non elimination leg. Two other teams will join them via the vote. Each team will vote for two. Michelle immediately starts making threats of no help for anyone if they get voted which is……what they’ve already been doing anyway. Matt and Michelle are a lot in this episode but we’ll get there. Here are the results of the Double U-Turn vote.
U-Turn votes:
Erin and Javi vote for Matt/Michelle and Ali/Joanna
Ali and Joanna vote for Matt/Michelle and Daisha/Dalton
Conner and Garrett vote for Matt/Michelle and Daisha/Dalton
Doug and Dylan vote for Daisha/Dalton and Anuar/Andrea
Anuar and Andrea vote for Matt/Michelle and Daisha/Dalton
Matt and Michelle vote for Anuar/Andrea and Ali/Joanna
Ann Marie and Riley vote for Matt/Michelle and Daisha/Dalton
The final results are:
Matt and Michelle – 5 votes
Daisha and Dalton – 4 votes
Anuar and Andrea – 3 votes
Ali and Joanna – 2 votes
So, Doug & Dylan, Matt & Michelle, and Daisha & Dalton will be the teams to have to do both parts of the detour. Matt and Michelle are angry about getting the most votes. They love cutthroat and laugh and talk trash till people take shots back at them. Now they’re angry when others play the game against them. Daisha and Dalton are shocked that people saw them as this much of a threat in the race that they got the second amount of votes. The detour has two tasks. One is to dry out fish and the other is to pick up fish and then have to sell a certain amount of fish to the locals. Matt & Michelle and Doug & Dylan go to selling first. Competing against each other with pricing including Doug and Dylan undercutting Matt and Michelle on price. Matt and Michelle were also overcharging. At one point, Doug and Dylan grab one of their customers while Matt and Michelle had to leave to go and get more fish. LOL. Daisha and Dalton do drying first for their double detour. Ali and Joanna finish the drying which puts them in first place leaving the detour. A couple of French women basically help donate money to Matt and Michelle to finish the last little bit off so they’re off to the other side of the detour. Ann Marie and Riley finish and then help Matt and Michelle with showing them how to do the drying as they leave. Ann Marie and Riley say they like them and felt bad about U-turning them. Doug and Dylan finish the selling. Back at the front, Ali and Joanna arrive for route info and get on the bus to head to the next task but a local tells them the bus is 75 minutes for a ride and the highway is faster. They jump off the bus and do see Ann Marie & Riley and Erin & Javi but don’t give the advice to either saying they have to take care of themselves here. Totally get that. Daisha and Dalton move on to the selling fish. Their biggest problem is that the locals are not wanting the nasty looking fish of Daisha and Dalton’s. I cracked up at Daisha with her self admission of saying yeah this fish is nasty but please buy it anyway. LOL. Meanwhile, Michelle is still ranting and raving while drying fish of how they’re not helping other teams over the double U-turn…..despite how they’ve played this race so far themselves. Anuar and Andrea move to the bus portion and try to move up in the line to catch up to Erin & Javi and Ann Marie & Riley. They end up skipping the line and get on the same bus with those two teams for an awkward moment. Anuar wants to work with them but the feeling really isn’t mutual. Erin and Javi are not wanting to work with them but are stuck with not really being able to say no. Daisha and Dalton finish the selling and they are the first of the three double U-turn teams to leave the detour. Doug and Dylan are right behind them followed by Matt and Michelle in last place. Daisha and Dalton are scrambling finding a bus by themselves. Matt and Michelle get on the same bus with Daisha and Dalton. They are hopeful that Doug and Dylan will miss the bus so it gives them some cushion. Doug and Dylan do miss the bus and get on another one. We get an awkward bus ride with Matt and Michelle mad at Daisha and Dalton for U-turning them while Daisha and Dalton try to joke and keep it light with it being a game move. Matt and Michelle really hate when you play the game against them. Ali and Joanna get to the road block. One member from each team will have to load and transfer a load of 30 boxes. Ali does awesome battling through the busy streets as the busy streets are the story of this task. Ann Marie helps load Anuar’s boxes with the alliance as the two of them take off with Javi as well. Ali finishes keeping her and Joanna in first place.. Ann Marie and Anuar follow Javi who is basically doing the navigating for the alliance. Daisha and Dalton are feeling nervous on the bus not knowing where Doug and Dylan are. I loved Daisha’s inspiration that she found while riding on the bus. She saw graffiti from the window that said “some people want to see you fail, don’t let them” The alliance finishes the boxes. Conner also finishes the boxes getting help from the locals. Him and Garrett are such a fun duo. Ali and Joanna arrives at tuk tuk polo. One team member will drive while the other tries to hit a ball between the goal posts in 60 seconds with defense happening with others driving around. Ali and Joanna get to go at this alone for a bit till Erin and Javi arrives so now teams take turns. Meanwhile with the double U-Turn teams, Doug and Dylan arrive at the road block first so them missing the first bus ended up not being bad at all. Doug does the boxes. Daisha & Dalton and Matt & Michelle arrive looking for the clue box. Matt asks Dylan where the clue box is but Dylan doesn’t say. Smart move by him cause this may be very tight and you might need every second here. Michelle says Doug and Dylan have a 15 minute lead on them. Dalton ends up following Matt with the boxes. Both of them end up passing Doug and finishing ahead of him. Doug gets lost on finding where he was going. On another side note with Doug, did you see his awesome firefighter picture from when he was young???!! He looked like a big actor in one of those 80s TV dramas. Back at the polo, Ali and Joanna finish polo in first place. Their strategy was that they admittedly had no strategy but it worked out. LOL. Anuar and Andrea finish polo in second. Doug is shown finishing the boxes. In the car ride after the boxes, Matt and Michelle say Doug is still doing the boxes to which Matt says good and is calling Dylan a “brat” for not helping them. I just have to say how absolutely completely obnoxious that Matt and Michelle are. This whole episode is we’re allowed to not help you and make your games harder but you aren’t allowed to do that to us. it’s the classic we’re allowed to play the game and do whatever we want to you but how dare you do anything at all to us. They’re a force of a strong team obviously and we absolutely see it in this episode but their lack of self awareness is the biggest thing about them for me. I’m sure that Matt and Michelle would have told Dylan where the clue box was even before the U-Turn moment. Right? Of course not. Nobody should do that when you’re battling for your Amazing Race lives. Geez, these two are a LOT. Ali and Joanna are first at the pit stop. They ran an awesome leg. Riley talks of how humbled she was with this polo while being a softball player of how hard this was. Matt and Michelle get the polo on their first try leaving the other teams in astonishment. They talk trash on their way out and end up finishing third for this leg of the race. Doug and Dylan arrive at polo and the stress sets in on the rest of the teams left knowing it could be any of them going home now. Ann Marie and Riley finish. That leaves three teams. Erin and Javi complete theirs and can I just say that my heart jumped into my throat when I saw their car start to tip at one point as they were competing during polo. Whew, that scared me. That leaves us with two teams battling at the polo. Daisha and Dalton vs Doug and Dylan. Daisha and Dalton struggle with the driving part of it for a bit. Daisha and Dalton end up scoring on a very dramatic edit which looked awesome. They take off for the pit stop. Doug and Dylan finish the polo right behind them. Daisha and Dalton get to the pit stop and survive. Doug and Dylan arrive while they are still on the mat and were only minutes behind. Doug and Dylan are eliminated from the race. I absolutely loved them! Just such a joy of a team to watch. I don’t know how many times that it looked like their time on the race was over and then they would battle and never give up. Just an absolute joy of a team and I’m glad we got to watch them on this season of the race.
