Season 39 of The Amazing Race is underway with the starting line taking place in Vancouver, Canada. 13 teams with a twist immediately from Phil. Everyone gets express passes for the first time in Amazing Race history. However, only one team can use them at each task. If you try and use it when another team already has, it could put you further behind. Every team will have to be strategic on when to use their express passes. Teams must make their way first to BC Place where they will do fly fishing. One member of each team will go up to the catwalk of the building and bungee off where they have to grab inflatable fish hanging on a line. If they miss, they have to get in line and go again. We do have some teams that get the fish but they grabbed the line first instead of the fish. One team isn’t going to be joining the rest as Erin and Javi, the newly married couple, have decided to go for the express pass immediately and get approved for it. Back at the fly fishing, Matt is the first to go and gets it on his first attempt. This puts Matt and Michelle as the first to leave the task. My local team from Murray, Charlotte and Katie, have a funny moment on Charlotte’s jump where she keeps talking about hyping herself up pretending that she’s falling back into a ball pit. Jaime has a struggle at first with her taking a few attempts to get it. Fun dynamic with her and her brother, Cody. Cody says he’s pretty sure cockroaches under his bed like him more than his sister does. LOL. Doug and Dylan are the grandfather and grandson team (ages 72 and 18) who watched the show together through the years and wanted to compete together. Doug has a few misses on the fly fishing but ends up getting it. I was impressed with all these teams being able to do this cause myself would be a hard no doing that. LOL. We get back to Erin and Javi who are struggling to find their next stop and have lost their lead. They do get to the boat taxi first which has about seven minutes of time in between each ride. So, they get part of their advantage back. They are the first at the detour where it’s either a memory task of memorize the sayings with the Maritime flags followed by raising the correct five flags with clues in the right order. The other task is a paddling tandem canoe where you pick up a clue at one of six buoys. Erin and Javi disagree a bit on which one to go for and they end up doing the flags. They miss on their first attempt. Michelle and Matt who were second at the detour take the boat task. They capsize a few times. Charlotte and Katie capsize as well in their boats. Erin and Javi get their flags right on a second attempt after a very passive aggressive judge that is ready for them to make a decision on which flags to fly and hurry up. LOL. They leave in first place on their way to the pit stop. When they arrive at the pit stop in first, Phil is even saying “so you burned your express pass?” LOL. Back at the fly fishing, Daisha and Dalton are the last to leave but they get ahead of Zach and Nate while trying to find the next location. The story now turns into these last three teams. Daisha & Dalton, Dafina & Saran, and Zach & Nate. Darina & Saran and Daisha & Dalton decide to work together with the flag memory task so they can get ahead of Nate and Zach. Only problem with that is that Darina and Saran decide to play their express pass with them afraid of the boys using their pass and then it’s the two of those teams against each other. When Daisha and Dalton realize that Darina and Saran have used their express pass, they switch up and go to the boat saying that memory things isn’t their task. It comes down to a last race between them Daisha & Dalton and Zach & Nate. They are tied at the last buoy and it’s a rowing race side by side to the shore. Daisha and Dalton get the clue first. It’s a footrace to the taxis and it’s off to the pit stop. Both teams run around trying to find the pit stop and Daisha and Dalton arrive first. This means that Zach and Nate are the first team eliminated from The Amazing Race.
